Disney Wonder to be homeported in Los Angeles

I agree with you about Castaway Cay. I enjoyed spending a few hours there, but it's just a beach.

Well I do agree but only to a point. See to me a beach has waves, (I guess that is what I think as I live a mile from the beach here in L.A.) and since CC does not have any I like to call it a overglorfied pool with fish. The only thing I truly enjoyed on my last trip there about 4 weeks ago was lunch at SB. They had full size rib eyes off the grill, awesome. Also I paid the same price as Nancy for the WB Repo in 08. I know the price will go up as they were going to raise the price for a who booked as the PC raised the fee for the Magic to transit. I am figureing for the Cat. 11 I like it will run about 1699+taxes a person.

Which ship do you think is ahead of Disney Dream? The order books I am seeing are showing it like this:

CELEBRITY EQUINOX August 2009
CELEBRITY ECLIPSE June 2010
DISNEY DREAM Spring 2011
CELEBRITY UNNAMED (S. 678) Fall 2011
DISNEY FANTASY Spring 2012
CELEBRITY UNNAMED (S. 679) Fall 2012

According to Cruise Travel's chart from January, the following ships are coming out of Meyer Werft in the following order
Equinox delivery August 2009
Eclipse June 2010
Celebrity Unnamed Fall 2011 (ahead of the first new Disney Ship)
Celebrity Unnamed Fall 2012 (again, ahead of the second new Disney Ship)

Been a subscriber since the mid-80's, and their annual new ship issue each January has always been dead on. They, according to every travel agent I have dealth with, the "bible" of the cruise industry.

Just a footnote the Panama canal and the West coast Mexican Riviera ports all have to be booked in advance, so, they will have a date for completion and shake down of the Dream, and base everything on that, but the Wonder will not wait.

I am sure the contract for the ships will have significant penalty clauses for any delay in handover of control to DCL.

Dreams is currently expected Feb 2011.
That is so cool!! I guess it would make sense that you have to book the PC in advance. I guess its not like showing up at the Lincoln Tunnel into NYC and just paying your toll. :rotfl2: Sometimes my lack of common sense amuses me. :rolleyes1:lmao:

I think we need to start a thread about who wants to go on the PC repo cruise!! :thumbsup2

For any 'repo' through Panama it has to be planned well in advance, DCL gets a guaranteed slot, a guaranteed daylight passage, through one of the busiest waterways in the world.

To get the best price and a guaranteed 'day'; they have to book very early.

Getting it wrong would mess up any 14/15 night transit and the ports of call.

So it is planned and booked well in advance and if they say the Wonder is going to LA, I bet its penciled in now.

I'm with ya!!! :thumbsup2

Does anyone remember what the pricing was for the Magic WB Repo in 2008? Thanks

I looked into the Aug. EB, 1st release day, it was around $7000 for 2 adults, 2 kids, Cat. 9. That avgs. $3500 per week which is what we typically pay for fall cruises during the school year. What a bargain; kids would be out of school and I was ready to book but no one wanted to cruise for so long, except me and the kids. :sad1: Dh, parents, all said it was too long. Arrrrrgh!pirate:
Should have gone w/o them!

Andrew - What's your crystal ball telling you is the penciled in date? We could start a contest...guess the PC sail date.

Okay, now who do I call to pencil me in?? :rotfl2: I need a handicapped accessible outside stateroom please! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

All I can say if you really want to be on the Repo. you better book as soon as the office opens on the day they put it up for sale. This iscwhat I am going to do so I can get the best price.

I posted a speculation above, I wouldn't speculate closer than that, imho, I think it would be 'earlier' than previous WB Repos, ball park February>April.

To clarify, I didn't go on the PC cruise. My son's high school graduation was the day after Memorial Day, and I didn't want to be gone his last 2 weeks of school. It was a good price, though!

That's my intention!! :thumbsup2 I will find a qualified DCL travel agent and leave it in their capable hands. This way I don't need to stress.

The top DCL Specialist TA's have had a fantastic record in booking special cruises, any Panama crossing seems to engender a lot of panic, but book with one of these and you will not need to worry, or hang on the phone for hours, or get your blood pressure up when the DCL site folds!

Do go with DCL Specialist TA's other TA's do not understand the 'speed' required.

dcl will have a premium price on the next panama repo. they had 2 panama repos in 08 and they both sold out in about a day. in 2011 they will have one panama repo expect a premium price. the prices were cheap i paid 3900 for a cat 11 for 2 people including there high insurance which i should of got somewhere else. this was for the aug repo the wb was around 400 dollars cheaper i believe.

You know I am really thinking about going with Dreams for this one. I really do hate to use TA's mostly because if something goes wrong I only have myself to blame. On the other hand I am so sick and tired of the horribale servers that DCL has. Who knows maybe a upgrade will finaly come with all the demand they may have in 2011.

Well, I think you might need to prepare yourself for them being wrong for the first time. ;) I can not find a single ship building source that agrees. Besides that, Disney signed both the letter of intent AND the final contracts before Celebrity ordered EITHER of the two ships that haven't started construction (4th and 5th in Solstice Class). The letter of intent that Disney signed preserved their place in the build process. The current events at Meyer Werft also suggest the same. Celebrity Equinox is almost done and will be in salt water by the end of June. Celebrity Eclipse has already had her keel laid and construction is well under way for its June 2010 delivery. The Disney Dream steel cutting has begun, which means it is next! When they make room this fall, they will lay the keel of the Disney Dream.

2007/05/21 Celebrity Cruises signs contract for 4th Solstice class ship
2007/04/23 Disney signs contracts
2007/02/22 Disney signs letter of intent

By the way, both of our sources have the Equinox delivery date wrong - Equinox will be delivered in July.
