Disney with two broken arms - (Final Day 1/23)

What a great trippie! Love the face painting.

I have to ask...I noticed your sandals. You are wearing them in every picture. Inquiring minds want to know. What brand/style?

Thanks!

Thanks, the face painting is expensive but was worth the money for how much fun they had walking around with painted faces.:goodvibes

Well, aren't you observant.:) The sandals are Columbia Techlite. I bought them specifically for the trip and took several walks in them before leaving to be sure they'd work. They have great cushioning. (I've had foot surgery and still have foot pain so need good cushioning.) They are also water resistant (great for rain) and much cooler than wearing tennies. About 2/3 into the trip I did develop a blister on the top of my left foot where the top strap is. I wore tennies the next day and after that went back to the sandals with the top strap loosened a little. I would recommend them. Just be carefully of the straps rubbing. Also, it's wise to try on. They run about a size bigger than normal.

The title of your TR caught my eye so I read the whole thing this afternoon:goodvibes So much fun and much dedication to having a great time despite your athletic injuries..cool:thumbsup2 Looking forward to the rest of your report.

pixiedust: Welcome! Thanks for reading along.

This was a great post, the photopass pictures are absolutely Beautiful... your time with Mickey and Minnie sounds magical.

popcorn::

Yes, it was a magical meet.:rotfl:

What great pics Mickey and Minnie are so cute. I love the face painting the girls had done.

Thanks so much. Yes, we love Minnie and Mickey.

Wow, another great update, I know it's been said again and again but you guys are really a beautiful family! :) I hope you saved your cast! That is the ultimate keepsake! Thanks for the great (and rare) pictures from the Astro Orbiter! I have only been on it once and that was on my first trip to MK when I was 8 in 1977! Although there have been far too many trips to count since then I have never made it back on! I was determined to go on it during the MNSSHP on 9/16 but I got so caught up in things I forgot! lol.. oh well, maybe next trip! Can't wait to hear more of your report! :)

Yea, you should try to make it back there. Astro Orbiter was more fun than I expected.

Your girls are so cute with their painted faces. :cutie: :cutie: Can't wait to see what happens next.

Thanks, you're so kind.

Hi! I found you on Tammy's TR and thought I'd stop by. Your girls are precious. I hope y'all make it to HDDR!!

Awww Mickey and Minnie signed your cast! That is so awesome.

Yep, somehow my cast became "cool" after that.:goodvibes

We left off at the boat dock in a panic because DH is not waiting for us there. But first here are a couple more photo pass pictures of the girls in front of the castle with their faces pained that we took on our way out.

image103.jpg

So after running to the other dock to see if DH was there we ran back and low and behold DH was sitting on a bench waiting for us. He must have gotten there right as we went to look at the other one. Here’s the bummer. When the girls and I were there a boat was loading, I guess DH got there as they were leaving and they even called at him to see if he wanted on. If we had just stayed there we could have been on that boat. So, we were all together but the stress was still on because now we had to wait for another boat. And wait we did, about 20+ minutes. It was a lovely ride but I was a little worried about being turned away because we were too late.

When we finally docked at Ft Wilderness it was about 5 after so we walked fast to HDDR. And. . . . . . They were still seating! Actually, I watched the door and it stayed open for about 30 minutes. Wish I’d known that. Would have saved me some stressing. We were entertained at HDDR. The girls really didn’t like the food. The corn bread was great though.

Who can resist the napkin twirl?
DisneyWorld2008357.jpg

And of course the washboards. Boy was that loud.
DisneyWorld2008358.jpg

We enjoyed the show and laughed. I’m glad we went at least once but we will probably not do again any time soon. It’s a basic down home dinner show that you can see anywhere, (nothing unique to Disney). IMO

So, when we left we made our way to the boat dock to go back to MK (for Spectromagic and Wishes). As we were waiting, DD4 stuck her foot through the posts and dropped her flip flop in the water.
DisneyWorld2008359.jpg

There was no way to get it and she started crying. It was quite the entertainment for all those waiting around us. DH and I weren’t too concerned and told her we’d get her some new shoes at MK. (What kid wouldn’t want new shoes in WDW). . . . . My kid. She wanted her old raggedy flip flop back. Well DD7 saw a long boat brush hanging up so they ran to get it while DD4 and I watched the flip flop slowly start to drift under the bridge. DH stuck the brush in and was able to get the shoe up to the side of the posts. Then a nice dad next to us helped reach through and grab it. The flip-flop was rescued! Well we decided that our daddy was a undercover superhero :charac4: for sure because he can rescue flip flops from dangerous Disney water.

On the boat ride to MK the driver announced the times for Spectromagic and Wishes. They were an hour later than the schedule I had printed off line. We were confused when we walked in. It was about 7:30 and they already had the road roped off for Spec. and people were sitting around waiting even though the Times Guide said Spec. didn’t start until 9 p.m. So, we went to ask a CM. She was confused by Times Guide and said the parade would start at 8. We decided to go up to the Train Station and see if there was room up there. There was lots of room and a beautiful view. I was so excited. We originally sat by a table behind an older lady who clearly did not like children. You know the kind. The kind that turns w/ an evil stare every time your kids move or open their mouth. Her irritation irritated me so much that we decided to lift our table and move it away from her. Not to mention, front and center! We took these pictures while waiting. It really is a pretty view at night.
DisneyWorld2008362.jpg

DisneyWorld2008363.jpg

Well, we waited for the 30 minutes in expectation of seeing Spectromagic coming any moment and , nothing happened. Everyone around us seemed confused too. So, at about 10 after DH went to find another CM who told him the Times Guide is correct and it doesn’t start until 9. Oh, Bummer. Well, we decided our great seats were not worth waiting another hour and decided to leave. It must have been the first night of a time change because even the CM were confused. So, even though we wasted our time waiting we still had a good time.

We decided to get on the train and make our way to Splash Mountain!
DisneyWorld2008364-1.jpg

DisneyWorld2008365.jpg

Splash Mountain was pretty much a walk on at that time. It was the first time DD4 would ride. She was excited. DD7 was of course scared. This is a ride she’s proud to have done but never wants to do. It was really pretty riding in the dark.

Here we are in the log.
DisneyWorld2008367.jpg

DisneyWorld2008368.jpg

We were disappointed because our picture never came up afterwards. They were having issues. But stay tuned because we have an awesome picture on Splash Mountain during MNSSHP.

We then decided to find a place to watch Spec. in Fronteirland. We went to the space we knew they’d be closing as the parade got closer. It was about another 30 minute wait with a lot of people trying to crowd into our spot but we ended up with great front row seats!

DisneyWorld2008375.jpg

DisneyWorld2008378.jpg

DisneyWorld2008382.jpg

We then made our way to Main Street to get a spot for Wishes. It was supposed to be one of the best viewing spots but I probably will never pick right on Main Street again. We had to pick up both the girls so they could see over all the people and it was crowded. We found a much better viewing spot at MNSSHP later in the trip.

So, after a fun filled day at the MK we headed out with the herds to go back to POP.

What a hero your DH was!!!! And what a nice other Dad to help out and rescue the flip flop!!:lovestruc So glad you made the HDDR show, but sorry you weren't too happy about it. We were trying to get a ressie for it for our upcoming trip and couldn't, after reading your TR, I'm now not sorry we didn't!! :) Can't wait to hear what happens "tomorrow"!! You're leaving us hanging!!!:rolleyes1

Great update and pics! The girls look so cute with their outfits and face painting!! :)

Beautiful pictures of the girls in front of the castle. I'm beginning to think HDDMR is not worth the two dining credits!? Nothing special really goes on? What was served for dinner? Dixie Stampede had me spoiled as far as dinner shows go and when I go I pay $7 for that so I'm thinking this would really disappoint us. :confused3

Well, I have been enjoying reading this but had some catching up to do today when I read about your hair (pool picture). I just have to say I wish I looked as "bad" as you did on my best day! You have a beautiful family and I am enjoying reading about your trip. My DH will be in a cast for our trip next month as he has just been scheduled for carpal tunnel surgery 3 weeks before our trip. He needs both done but isn't willing to do them both at the same time (not that you had a choice) especially for our trip. He's bald, so hair won't be a problem for him!:lmao: I don't know if it is a writing on type cast or not but I already warned him that if it can be signed it will be by as many charachers as possible! I already bought the key ring sharpies in a dozen colors so I am ready!!! (I always said if ever anyone had a cast on for Disney we'd get it signed, but never actually thought we'd have to do it, but I figure why not make the most of it?) Anyway, looking forward to reading more, it has been enjoyable!!!

Your title intrigued me and I just had to read! What a great TR and what a trooper you are for going with the broken arms! I must say you have a beautiful family. Your DDs are just lovely and so photogenic! The flip flop incident was a riot, but I am glad your DH rescued it.

Can't wait for more great photos!

Suz

Well, I guess everyone should try HDDR at least once to make up their own mind. Some people really like it. It's not that I didn't, we just felt like we could have seen the same show anywhere.

Great update and pics! The girls look so cute with their outfits and face painting!! :)

;) Thanks tmkinney. I'm looking forward to your next update. I've passed you up now.:goodvibes

Dinner was chicken (not very meaty), mashed potatoes I think, corn bread, and a tasteless salad. The two TS credits are definitely more for the entertainment than the food. You do get unlimited beer or wine. You might as well try it just so you can form your own opinion. It's still a good time just not anything unique or different from the basic country dinner show.

Well, you are a woman with a plan that's for sure. It will really help that he's only having one done.

Thanks Suz. I've noticed you on the boards before because our usernames are very similar. Thanks for reading.:cheer2:

I'm enjoying your trip report--we took our first trip last January (I too felt a little guilty taking the kids out of school, but it was so worth going at a slow time!) and we so badly want to go back!! I am an elementary school teacher who is currently substitute teaching :) Sometimes I take jobs I really don't want just to save up money in the vacation account! Unfortunately, we had to put a new roof on our house, so our next trip is probably a while off! I'm really enjoying visiting the world through you and your family's eyes!

I didn't mean to imply that I was happy he'd be in a cast, just that if he has to be, why not make the best of it. Years ago (as a kid) I saw a kid with a broken leg getting the cast signed by the characters. I thought it was cool (as a kid), and always remember that. I guess that is why I am ready to do this, figured the kids would get a kick out of it, I bet yours did!

Looking forward to reading more...

I just love the pic of your girls with tinkerbell in their hands. Gonna have to get my DD to pose for one of those on our photopass! As for the flip flop..It must be a girl thing..My DD would have wanted the old back plus a new pair from WDW....it is a shoe thing..:rotfl2:

Great pics good job dh with the flip flop:yay: . We have never done hdr maybe someday we will. maybe:rolleyes1

Yes, subbing is a great way to save up extra money! It's great you had that saved up for your roof though. Thanks for "visiting the world through our family's eyes". :goodvibes

True, girls do love their shoes. We did end up buying her some Disney crocks a little later in the trip because her flip flops kept coming off and she didn't want to wear tennies.

Great pics good job dh with the flip flop:yay: . We have never done hdr maybe someday we will. maybe:rolleyes1

It's always good to try thing out for yourself. Everyone's different.:)

ANother great update!!! Can't wait for more!:goodvibes

Thanks so much for sticking around cdotla.:thumbsup2
