Disney with a Southern Twist- Tomber 11.11.11 UPDATE: BLOGGED & LIFE!! 1/24!

Love the invites and your dress looks amazing!! Everything is coming together so nicely!!

I love your invites and your dress is GORGEOUS!!!!!! I love the skirt on it so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're invitations are great and you're dress is beautiful. The only thing I have to say is when I saw the registry card, especially with the mention of cash gifts, I did a little yikes. I am all for doing whatever you want to do, believe me, my wedding is so far left of traditional... but etiquette does say not to send out registry info yourself, and certainly not put it in invitations. You don't want it to look like you're just inviting people for gifts and there are a lot of traditional people who will find it offensive. I suggest you have a page on your website that mentions where you're registered. If someone wants to know they will look there or they will ask around. Just my opinion...

I was thinking the same thing.

Ok, I literally saw you in your dress and got the biggest smile on my face! You look so beautiful chick! and those invites turned out wonderful, I am so happy for you! You are going to make such a beautiful bride!

I don't think it's that big of a deal. In this day and age things like the registry are discussed more and rules are looser. If the bride and groom want cash then they should put that out there. Yes, guests shouldn't be expected to bring gifts, but most of them do anyway.

I have to say, your dress looks WAY better on you than that model! Her look was like, "yeah, I'm wearing a puffy white dress. Yay." But, your look scream, "I'm getting married in this gorgeous piece of gown! W00t!"

I love the top. It looks so pretty! :goodvibes

Haha awww thanks!! I try to play off that "happy bride model look" :rotfl:

Alright girl, love love love updates! Your invites are fabulous. I would send a blank one to them JUST in case? And the new centerpieces are adorable.

I have one suggestion.. I would make your necklace a smidgen bit shorter so it doesn't actually touch your gown? An inch or two shorter and it'll be fabulous! But so happy you love it! Yay my seester from another mister! <3

Haha yes, I might send them a non-Disney one just in case!! :rolleyes1

I can adjust the necklace no problem! :thumbsup2 The dress store lady helped me put it on so I couldn't really see what she was doing back there!

Well.. I am all for doing whatever I want- and I am a non-traditional bride and honestly I do not really reference etiquette or what "I am supposed to do". I am making my wedding for me, and I feel it should be as unique as I want it. True the wording can be altered when asking for cash- but I feel why ask for silly gifts of stuff I don't really need when I could really ask for what could be beneficial for us in the long run and can be used on the honeymoon and such. By including the registry information it is not obligating anyone to buy anything- but I feel it is just more convenience for the guests without having to send them elsewhere for information that I can easily provide.

Your invites are fabulous. You did a fanastic job!!!! You look absolutely beautiful in your dress. It looks perfect on you!!!

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

You look absolutely gorgeous in your dress! And it looks fantastic with the jewelry :goodvibes

I also like your invites, they are very cute ;)

Very unique idea to put the centerpieces with the wine goblets... I'll be looking forward to seeing it when you decide what you put in the goblets!

Thank you Thank you Becky!! Haha yeah I will probably be sticking who knows what in those goblets to see what it looks like- I do like the simplicity of them being empty though... haha decisions decisions!!

Amber! Your invites look great! I love all the Disney touches!

And your dress, you look amazing! I love love LOVE the necklace!!!

Thanks Mindy!! :goodvibes

YAY!! :yay: Thanks!!

I love your invites and your dress is GORGEOUS!!!!!! I love the skirt on it so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!!! :lovestruc That skirt was exactly what I was looking for and it is sooooo pretty!! It is what sold me on the dress for sure!

I was thinking the same thing.

I am sorry you feel that way- but again I am not traditional or
etiquette- my ceremony and reception are going to include close friends and family so they already know us as a couple and know we are not obligating them to anything

Ok, I literally saw you in your dress and got the biggest smile on my face! You look so beautiful chick! and those invites turned out wonderful, I am so happy for you! You are going to make such a beautiful bride!

Awwww!! Thanks Vicki!!!

Once I have a day off during the week I will be able to take care of most of the ordering.. I just need more time!! haha

My mom is hosting a bridal shower for me in September! We are doing a Mickey/Tea Theme, not really Alice in Wonderland- but more tea party-esque

In other non-wedding news DF got a 23% raise!!!!!!!! :goodvibes I am sooo proud of him!! Not to mention that extra $$ will be a HUGE help!!

My brother and sister in law are coming into town on Friday so we can go see Seinfeld in concert!!!! And we are eating dinner at one of my favorite Japanese places so I am sooo excited!

No good news yet on the job hunt- but I am hoping for something soon!! :headache:

 for double digits!! Time will fly by before you know it.

That's a great to do list!! I love making lists! Over and over and over. :rotfl: You're shower sounds great. You'll have to post pics for sure!

And congrats to the DF for the pay raise. That is definitely a huge plus!!

Can't wait to read more of your plans!!

I can't believe that you're so close!

Look at that to-do list! I wish I could come over & help.. :confused3 I really need to get on Dave about that moving thing. :rotfl:

I can't wait to see how everything turns out!

Yay for Thomas getting a raise! Tell him good job & to start saving for some NJ plane tickets for next October. :lmao: I crack myself up! tehe.

I'm keeping fingers crossed for us... otherwise the white coats are going to lock us up.. maybe we can get adjoining padded rooms???

Yayy! Congrats on double digits!!! And you will get everything on your check list done--- so don't stress!

Also: SUPER congrats on DF! That is amazing! And :wizard: for your job search. (Why a wizard? No idea.)

That is fantastic about your DF's pay raise! Congrats! :goodvibes

It looks like you're really organized with your to do list. That's great, and hopefully once you get started on it you can check some things off and it will be a little less overwhelming!

Thanks Becky!! :yay: I am working on getting everything squared away... I just feel like I have no time!!! But OMG... how close are you!?! :scared1:

So first off...

I FINISHED THE INVITES, THEY ARE IN THE MAIL.... DUNZO! :woohoo:

I think they turned out fantastic, and the only downside is that they did weigh more than a standard 44 cent stamp... but luckily not more than 2 stamps... they weighed enough for a 64 cent stamp- but she had some really cute wedding cake ones.. so that made it a little better. :lmao: But I am glad I stuck with the card stock inserts as just the regular weight paper made them feel cheaper!

I am getting a lot of good feedback from those who received them and so far we already have 2 email RSVPs! :goodvibes

As I mentioned we were going to do a bridal shower in September.. but yesterday I got an invite for one of my good friend's baby baptism which is on the exact same date as my would have been bridal shower... which wouldn't have been too bad except she is a teacher and along with her she is friends with about half of my guest list... so I definitely don't want people to choose where to attend and plus I want her at my bridal shower too.. so we are going to change the date to October 15th! It is going to be a bridal shower/birthday combo since my brithday is on the 8th! SO I am excited abut that! :yay: We are still going to send out the invites first thing in September so we can already "book" everyone and get an idea on numbers for the party early on so we can plan for favors and food and stuff.

I am coming along well with my to-do list.

1. Returned DF's ring- now still looking for a new one
2. Ordered the sand for the sand ceremony. I would definitely recommend the website I used. They were the cheapest and I got my sand SUPER quick! Now I just have to figure out if 3 lbs is enough for our container!
3. Since Irene took a little bit of a turn my hair trial & makeup and meeting with the florist is still on for this weekend in MB. So that was a lifesaver that I didn't have to try to re-schedule those and finagle another weekend off at work!

Hair Style I would like:

wedding-hairstyles-medium-hair.jpg

My mom and me made a headpiece using feathers, a flower, and my late grandmother's old brooch, it came out beautiful and I have my something old- and as a remembrance of my Grandma.

Here are some inspirations for my bouquet:

Black-Wedding-Flowers-Carnations---Anyone-using-them-.jpg

I am debating on all white carnations, or also using some daisies in there. To break up all the white I wanted to maybe have some teal accents or feathers or something and then have the bouquet wrapped in black satin ribbon. Or black accents with teal ribbon wrap? I wanted to include a green carnation in there somewhere- because that is what Thomas asked me to be his GF with... but it might make it look funny?

The idea of I have in my head is a tight carnation bouquet in all white, and three black carnations in the middle in the shape of a mickey head with teal ribbon.. So from above you can see the mickey head.. Does that make sense? :rotfl:

bouquet.jpg

HAHAHA please excuse my crude paint skills....

I wanted to talk to the florist and see is she can make some type of boutineer for the guys in the shape of mickey heads with like three flowers together? Or possibly trying to find some mickey pins or even antenna balls to incorporate in the boutineer. We don't really need flowers anywhere else other than one carnation for each table, a few white rose petals on the grass aisle and flowers for the mothers and grandmothers. So it should be a pretty straightforward (hopefully cheap) bill.

We are going to try to take a few pictures in MB this weekend so we can include them in our picture guestbook and then I need to make that! I bought a Groupon way back for Mixbook- so I am planning on using that service, so I will give you a preview when I get it made!

We finalized the cupcakes and cake with the bakery a few weeks ago
I didn't bring my camera that day for some reason.. :confused3- we are going with the two tiers similar to this mad hatter cake with the pattern in black and white and teal mickey heads.
weddingcake.jpg

We are not using fondant and just having standard regular square tiers, because we are the only ones going to be eating the cake and we just need a tier to eat and cut from and a top tier to save for our anniversary. To make the made hatter style would just be wayyy too much cake and we don't really need all that.

The rest of the guests will be getting cupcakes that look like this!

mickey-cupcakes-recipe-photo-260x260-cl-d.jpg

They will be chocolate and vanilla- they will be set out on split tiers of black and white hat boxes

with our cake in the middle with this topper:

I have also become obessed with the website http://pinterest.com/ even more lately and getting good ideas for the wedding and the house. Two of the ideas I am going to be using for sure!

We bought cheap wine goblets at the dollar store and were going to put the mickey heads on top and put something in the bottom below. Like this:

But then I saw this....

What a great idea!!! We are going to flip the glasses and put a white
carnation in the bottom.

Also- totally stealing this idea for my bridal shower!

You bring your wedding shoes and have the guests right little words of encouragement, advice, memories, and sentiments on the bottom, that way you have some of the most important people in your life- help you walk down the aisle.

As far as personal news goes, nothing else besides work and looking for another job- DF's grandmother has been in declining health the past year, she has emphysema and has been on oxygen since I have known her. She has had a few rough patches these last couple months and has been in and out of the hospital and ER due to her breathing, and she gave us a huge scare a few weeks ago when they thought she wasn't going to make it. She went home yesterday from the hospital so I am looking forward to seeing her- she is one of the nicest ladies I have ever known and I consider her like my second grandma since mine passed away. I am just hoping she makes it for our wedding.. it would devastate me and DF to lose her before we get married... and DF just lost his dad last year to Cancer, so it would be a low blow :sad2: Here's hoping she gets better!! Keep her in your thoughts and prayers!!

Just wanted to quickly check in and say that my thoughts are with those in the path of Hurricane Irene. We missed the brunt of the storm in Charleston, and I went to Myrtle Beach this weekend to get some wedding stuff done- and it is a little intense here. Just mostly wind and rain last night and even this morning still feeling some pretty strong gusts and tropical storm winds.

Hope everyone stays safe out there! Luckily she was downgraded to a Category 1, but storm surge and flooding is still a big issue!

Be safe DIS brides!!!

Ack! Holy awesome update, Batman!

First--- love the hair style and the bouquet. And I definitely think you should add some daisies to the bouquet... mostly because I'm only using daisies so I'm a little partial. :) But I also really like it with the feathers too!!!

I'm really liking the cake and the cupcakes and the boxes and the whole black and white feel. I LOVE those colors for wedding colors--- it's very classy and classic.

And I love the shoe idea too! I don't think I'll do it because I don't like anyone :lmao: but I still love the idea.

Whew. Okay, I think I covered most stuff--- great post!

Wow. Everything looks great. I love your colors, your dress and all the Disney touches. I also love that you are a carnation fan. I used a lot of carnations in my wedding. I would suggest that instead of the three black carnations (they'd have to be dyed and they end up looking sort of purple) you include Mickey crystals. I had them in my two MOH bouquets which were white carnations. You could do them black as well. My groom's bout also had a Mickey crystal. Just an idea!

Here's a pic of the girls' bouquets:

Hey girl! So as far as Irene goes, we hate a very rough relationship. I wanna beat her senseless right now. But happy she didn't mess with your plans.

I love the floral! Like we talked about when we were searching, I totally love the first bouquet with the feathers. What if you did that one with the black or a really deep teal flower Mickey in the middle? Then wrap it in teal with black lace overlay?? =] I think that sounds gawgeous! I can't wait to see what you come back with after talking to your florist!

I love the idea about the boutenierre's. I wanna do that for Dave's. But the antenna ball one sounds adorable also! They have key-chains that are like mini antenna balls, maybe you could use then with some flowers?? Just to add some Mickey into it?? I think that would be awesome!

Centerpiece ideas look faboo! What're you going to do with the Mickey head??

Stay safe seester! <3 <3

Yay, I love all your updates! That hair style inspiration pic looks really nice - it seems like a hairstyle that will look gorgeous on you! So I'm looking forward to hearing how your trial goes :goodvibes

I also really like the cake idea and can't wait to see it. All of the flower possibilities sound beautiful, though I kind of like the ones with the feathers!
