Disney Visa - Anyone use it like this?

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but, in order to get the points, you need to let the charges show up on the statement. If you charge the card but pay the amount before it hits the statements no points.

As long as you pay it off it full every month you do not accrue interest but I am pretty sure in order to get the points you must let it hit the statement.

I use mine for everything except mortgage and our water bill. If my bank would take it for our mortgage, I'd use it for that too. LOL.

I also have Premier and it's worth the annual fee for us to earn the extra 1% on some of the categories. I drained our rewards in May 2012 and next week when I transfer to our redemption card, we will have earned over $800 in just under 2 years. Like someone said there probably are better rewards cards out there but I'd also be practical with it. Disney Visa rewards are only for Disney or airfare (an option w/ premier) so I keep it.

You are incorrect. The sum of the rewards for the month do not show up until your billing cycle closes but you most definitely earn the rewards when the purchase is made. I think the reason they aren't credited is b/c somewhere in their terms they more than likely state that if you don't pay the card on time, etc, etc you don't earn the rewards.

Last month my final balance end of cycle was only $48. I earned $31.50 in rewards.

Yes. I forgot to mention ours is premier, too.

I use it for fun money. As off site people we never had DDP so I used that money for some fun dining. This time it paid a huge chunk on the cruise.

Not my Disney card but I use a cash back card much the same was as the OP. I pay every bill I can with the card to get my cash back rebate and then pay my credit card every month. I don't carry any debt beyond my mortgage and car loan when I have one.

I pretty much just have the Disney card for discounts. I rarely use it anywhere outside of WDW.

All charges made with the card earn rewards, and all charges and payments are reflected on each statement. You cannot claim your rewards until your closing date passes and the earned rewards post to your reward balance.

Also, if you decide to close your Disney account, you will lose all accrued rewards, including rewards on an active redemption card.

Yup, we do this with our airline cards. I hardly ever pay for airfare these days. Headin to Hawaii for the 3rd time this summer courtesy of my United miles:goodvibes

OP, how are you able to pay that same day? I have the Disney Visa since Chase first started offering it and my charges never post until at least the next day (sometimes a few days later) They will show as pending charges but I can not pay for at least a day.

As far as I know, you can make a payment anytime. I immediately pay off my Target card when I get home from the store.

Yeah mine also takes at least a day to post. Perhaps OP meant pays off next day after statement closes?

I was wondering that too. Also it won't let you pay more than the amount of the charges that have cleared (so no pending charges). I don't know if it has changed because I haven't try it in a while but it also wouldn't allow me to make a payment payment within 3 days of the last payment.

I love our Disney visa. We pay it every week. We have used over $2000 in rewards since we open it in 2011.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question. Just wondering if there are any other people that use their Disney Visa card just for the rewards? What I do is use the card for almost every regular daily purchase, then pay it off immediately. I don't like to have credit card debt, so I literally pay it online daily. I know, a bit OCD.

I've never bothered looking into it, but reward points are earned no matter what you purchase and no matter how fast you pay the bill, correct?

I have the Disney Visa and I use it for purchases that will not accept my AMEX card. I don't blame you for not wanting any credit card debt. Another thing you can do instead of paying your account off immediately is to subtract the amount from your checking account as if you had written a check instead of paying by credit. Then at the end of the month, you will always have enough money in your account to pay off the credit card bill.

We have Premier and we put EVERYTHING on it!

Phone bill, cable bill, car insurance, groceries, gas, water bill, etc.

We just bought a new car and the dealership let us put $5k of our down payment on the card!

Heck, even my kid's braces have gone on our Disney card. Lol!

Just tested it. Our statement balance is due on 2/26 with the current balance around $3700. We have $350+ pending, but I was able to schedule a payment for $5000. I canceled that of course, but it does allow you to overpay. I've accidentally paid our statement balance twice before not realizing I did it already, but we charged enough before the next cycle closed that we didn't end up with a credit. Oopsies. :rotfl:

I switched to premier about a year ago and the rewards are really racking up. My sister goes with me to Disney, so I got her a card on my account..she charges all her groceries ,gas and restaurants and everything else she can ...just like me..she pays me monthly and then I pay it off every month..I think we had around 1400. for our last trip...Will be using this next rewards for airfare to Venice.....going to cruise this time and save Disney until Avatar is open and fasspass has settled down.

I believe so. Someone mentioned that the points may be suspended if you are behind on your minimum payments, but I think they still accrue, you just can't get to them until you get caught up.

We pay the full bill every month and don't pay interest. The Disney Visa doesn't offer us as much a "bonus" as some other cards have and I think hubby uses another card a lot for that reason, but the advantage of the Disney Visa for me is the points all go back to Disney so I'm not tempted to use them somewhere "more practical." ;) Although I do shop the Disney store in town, all my reward points are spent at WDW (or at the Disney Discount stores in Orlando), mostly on food but also on pins and other souvenirs.

And, although we'll have a condo unit offsite, I'm considering using my points for one night onsite next time, probably a Royal Room at Port Orleans Riverside. My daughters and I will have "girls night out," while the guys can have the entire condo to themselves. :cool2:

I like to pay towards my monthly balance throughout the month on my Disney Visa, but I believe you have to wait between 3-5 days between payments. I found this out the hard way when I did my online payment too quickly and put in the wrong amount. I had to wait a few days before I could make another payment. They said they do this to avoid double payments. So, i don't think you could make a daily payment. Weekly, yes.

Yes. I didn't read any responses. But we use our card the exact same way. Every purchase goes on the card and we pay it off at the end of the month or mid cycle. But I had my husband call and ask them how the points/dollars were awarded. It's per purchase.

And no you're not "spending right". Lol. We earn about $80-$100 a month in reward dollars. For our trip in October (6 months of collecting $$) we didn't spend a dime out of pocket for food. It was all reward dollars.

Every single penny goes on that card. A latte at Starbucks goes on that card. We don't have any other cards and don't use cash. So literally every purchase. That's how it accumulates so fast for us.

That's what we do. We use the Disney Visa for all of our regular monthly bills, and then I just pay on the Visa from our checking account. I've been doing this for about 10 months since our last trip, and have about $700 for this next trip in March already.

We have both a non premier and premier account. We opened the first one because we wanted to surprise our parents and go on the Disney cruise they booked for their anniversary, and it offered 6 months no interest financing. Our first month, we got $40 rewards and came home to a $50 gift card and got $50 on board credit. We started using it for everything. When we put down our deposit on our May cruise, it cost us $22 per person to book thanks to rewards and the gift card! And then in November, I opened up my own Premier account ($49 annual fee but up to 2% on select purchases) in order to help establish my own credit, but it has a lower limit (great! Its just for gas and groceries and Disney anyway which we get 2% on), and for opening the account, I got a $200 gift card, and earned back the $50 for my first month of rewards. I've gotten $50 every month since, and January's is getting to roll over. Long story short, I paid in full for my cruise this last weekend. Of the $1200 cruise, we paid $620, and yes, that did include gratuities. 50% off of a DCL! Yes, $250 of that were gift cards we won't get to plan for next year, but I'll take it! In the meantime, I'll get points for the Disney cruise we booked with it and will be able to use those towards the tickets I'm going to order on it in April, and that will reduce the price of my tickets and will also go on no interest financing for 6 months. And then I will take the rewards from those and hopefully have some to cover my Epcot or PALO dinner!

So yes, we are liking the card A LOT at this point. We ditched our venture capitol one this year and switched to their premier. Because we NEVER ONCE flew anywhere with it! I guess we opted for cash back or something. Let's just say, having this card is already proving much more fun.

It also makes my utility power bill this month have a silver lining. :( At 1%, at least I'll be able to contribute $5.56 alone due to the power bill..(do the math..)
