Disney Visa - Anyone use it like this?

Does anyone know if Walmart Superstores count as a grocery store? I've been reading your posts and didn't even think about using my card to get rewards to use in Dec-duh!
We usually buy our groceries at Walmart since we buy for 7 people, cheaper than our local grocery store, but I'll switch if it means I can get 2%. Also, do you have to leave your balance on until the monthly statement to get the rewards, or can I pay off once it shows online on my account?
Thanks for all the tips!! Like the getting a Home Depot gift card from grocery store!! :thumbsup2

You can pay it off anytime, and you will earn rewards on every purchase. Walmart and Target should both earn 2%. You can call the number on the back of the card and they can look up specific stores in your area to see which category they are in.

If you have the regular Disney visa can you just upgrade to the premier? Are the qualifications the same?

Also, how do you get the reward points? Do they give you a Disney gift card?

I was sent an offer in the mail about upgrading. I bet you could call though.

When you are ready to redeem your rewards, you order a redemption card from Chase. They send it to you. You transfer rewards balance to it. Wallah.

HOWEVER do not order it until you need to b/c the card expires end of calendar year (or maybe it's just one year) and you lose any points you haven't redeemed. It comes very quickly - within a week or two and the points transfer is automatic so you are fine waiting until about a month before your trip.

I pay most of our recurring monthly bills like TV and internet and such with a credit card that, until recently, was the Disney VISA. We used the money earned to pay for tips on our meals during our vacation. Recently I switched to the Capital One *********** card because it has no annual fee and offers 1.5% in cash back with no limits and no categories. I keep my Disney VISA around for the Disney specific perks, but am accruing slightly faster with the Capital One card. I also use the card for large purchases that exceed the limit on my debit card or for traveling.

Part of my motivation is that I recently took a job with Capital One, so I also wanted to align myself there. I love the Disney VISA though.

For rewards to be usefull, on any card, you have to pay the bill in full, ontime, every month. If you can do that it can be a nice thing. I got us both the plus card two years ago...there is a $49 annual fee, but they give dbl points on fuel at restaurants, anything disney...

We charged $79,000 on it last year, ended up being over 1000 disney dollars.

The rewards redemption expires at the end of the next calendar year, in my experience. If you have leftover rewards on a card that is about to expire, you can always purchased a Disney gift card. If you don't put the rewards on a redemption card, they don't expire for much longer -- maybe five years?
You can order the rewards redemption card with minimum dollars and then call to add rewards as you need them. Rewards are available for transfer at the end of the monthly billing cycle. When you call, the rewards are transferred immediately. When we are at Disney, we call to have rewards transferred and use them right away to pay for dining.

Sorry if this was mentioned and I missed it:

Don't forget o use your Disney Visa in Disney to get additional discounts and perks. I know this is not a complete list but a few things I have taken advantage of.

Display your Disney Visa card to access a special character meet and Greet in innovations which includes a free 5x7 picture.

Display your card to access a members only lounge in the pavilion at the Wine and Food Festival (free coffee and soda, couches, TV)

Also at W&F pavilion, get wristbands for special reserved viewing area for illuminations and special seating for concerts.

Receive a discount at the Pin Trading store at DTD. Didn't have to charge on the card, only display it with the choice to pay cash or charge. The discount was better than the one for having an AP.

There are probably ore perks but these are the ones I have used.

I want a Disney Visa SO BADLY! For some strange reason, I get approved for every other credit card under the sun except this one! I really don't get it. At first, I thought it was just Chase bank that wasn't approving me, and that they must be super strict. But then I applied for the Southwest Credit Card (also from Chase) and got an instant approval! Anyone have any advice for me or knowledge to share on this? :confused3

A tip for those of you with the premier card...if you know you will be buying something at Home Depot, for example, pick up Home Depot gift cards at your grocery store and use those instead of your DV. That way, you earn 2% instead of only 1%. :goodvibes

Great idea! I'm heading off to my grocery store right now. I'm going to take a look at what other gift cards they have too!

Any thoughts?

Sparked by the grocery cashier noticing my "cute" Disney Visa a conversation with the young girl revealed that she had been turned down for cc's a lot and that FINALLY she had been approved for the Southwest card. So maybe this is one of the easiest to get. But my thoughts would be that if you use the Southwest card responsibly for a period of time then you may, down the road, qualitfy for other Chase cards. :confused3

This sounds plausibly. DisnyKitten - I think cards are harder to get these days. I agree with crazymomof4. Get 6 months of responsible usage. Keep on top the payments and try again. :)

I've also not ever been accepted for a credit card but happily got a Disney card (the free version). Now to see about how many reward points I can earn before May...

I never thought to use it at the dentist! What a great idea. My dental appt. starts at $278 as I need meds, whoa, I will use it the next time for sure:) I also, pay the card off each month. Sadly, I spent all of the reward dollars in October when I was in a Disney store. I love the way I can "earn" extra money:)

We use our (non-Disney) rewards card for almost everything so we rack up the points, but I never thought it use it for healthcare expenses. That is genius! Instead of using my HSA card, I'll put it on my regular credit card, then submit the expenses for reimbursement through my HSA. They generally turn those around pretty quickly so we're likely to have the cash by the time we have to pay the credit card bill anyway. Awesome idea! :thumbsup2

i am puzzled by several here who posted that they pay off credit cards "daily" or "weekly". do some cc's compound interest daily? if so, i need to watch for that!!! I've never experienced that. All of the cards i've ever had don't charge interest unless you carry a balance over to the next monthly billing cycle. As long as i pay by the due date each month, i never pay interest.

+1

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question. Just wondering if there are any other people that use their Disney Visa card just for the rewards? What I do is use the card for almost every regular daily purchase, then pay it off immediately. I don't like to have credit card debt, so I literally pay it online daily. I know, a bit OCD.

I've never bothered looking into it, but reward points are earned no matter what you purchase and no matter how fast you pay the bill, correct?

That's how I use mine. As long as they don't charge a fee for using a credit card, I use my Disney Visa to pay for everthing (gas, restaurants, groceries, ebay, vacations, clothing, appliances, etc). I use it just like a debit card, writing each transaction in my check book, just like I would a debit. Then about once a week, I go online and check off each transaction that is not pending and pay it. I can't stand having debt either, so try to always keep a zero balance. I even charge my monthly electric bill, cable bill, and cell phone bill. I'd love to use it for my truck payment and house payment, but they charge more to use a credit card, than the rewards would be.:rotfl:
