disney princess dress and biracial child please read

My daughter wants to dress up as cinderealla belle rapunzel or snow white i really would like her to dress as tiana since she is half black and half white she wants to wear these in disney world she has the afro type hair and i do not if she should dresd as one of these princesses with her, being more darker skin do you think she eould look ok in the parks dressed like this

My daughter was one of the first girls at BBB to be Tiana at the parks. We are white. I had no issues and I did not notice anyone staring or making an issue of it. The CM's called her Tiana and she loved every minute of it. Why shouldn't your daughter be whatever princess her imagination desires? If someone has a problem with it, it is their problem, not yours or your daughters. I say let her be a child and enjoy being whatever princess is her favorite. To be honest, I don't think the color of Tiana's skin was ever even discussed between DD and I. She loves the movie and I honestly think Tiana's character is a good role model.

Children grow up so fast and don't want to dress up any more:( Let her have the experience of being whoever she would like to be in the biggest land of make believe available:thumbsup2

I know this post is older but to OP I have 3 biracial children and I think the biggest mistake we as parents can make is to make them not feel that they fit in. I do not make a big deal over hair skin color etc because why would I. Maybe you live in a place that is not as open minded (I always look for diversity before I move), but really to focus on color with a child who already may feel that they do not fit in is just sad. I realize the world is not all accepting (do not even get me started on cruising out of texas), but we as the parentshave to make them feel loved, beautiful, and accepted. My oldest is almost 14 and if and when something negative is sadi we may talk about it but try to down play as much as possible not to feed into the oh because I am black I am being treated this way mentality.

I know disrimination takes place, I am not naive enough to believe it doesn't. But as a parent I shield from as much as possible and do not introduce it myself. As a side note my DD3 will be sleeping beauty (curly dark hair and all)when we go in July :)

My daughter is adopted from Korea too! She loves to be all the princesses, I would never pigeon hole her into only Mulan. Besides, Mulan is Chinese, not Korean.

:rotfl2: My son is adopted from Korea as well. And that was one of my thoughts "Mulan isn't Korean". I gues that defensiveness surfaces at unexpected times!
(And of course I agree with everyone else that little girls should dress up to be whatever Princess they want.)

My Indian-American daughter was Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty last November at Disney. No issues at all -- just a lot of fun and laughter, especially when she decided, at a character meal, to go around to all the tables just like the other princesses. Some families at Akershaus got to meet two Snow Whites at that meal, one quite a bit shorter than the other . . . .

Agree 100%!! Tiana is a wonderful role model because she teaches children that not everything comes from the wave of a wand--the things that we truly want and deserve we have to work for!! True Love, a wonderful restaurant or whatever...it comes from us, not our Fairy Godmother!!! :)

Not dissing fairy tales (I'll wish on a star before anyone!!) just love Tiana's hard work!!!

:)

We were just at WDW last week (May 10th-20th). The night we had dinner at BoG, there was a little black girl (around 4 y/o) sitting at the table next to us, dressed as Cinderella. She was absolutely adorable and just lit up the room with her smile and excitement. I guess she saw us looking at her, because she came over and visited us for a minute and we complimened her on how beautiful she looked in her pretty blue dress. She gave us a huge smile and said, "I'm Cinderella!". I said, "I can see that and you look very pretty tonight". About that time, the Beast did his little walk through. This little girl took one look at him, dove back into her mother's arms, and looked terrified. After he walked out, she came back over to our table and said, "I'm really glad I'm not married to him. I feel sorry for Belle. He's scary".:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
