It's either built into the camera or done with a post processing program. Or, you work it yourself in a PP program. The point being, it is not something you can 'learn' to do with you camera if you don't have it.

Thanks Jud. I know what it is, I just need to learn how to do it in PP. I am not photoshop literate at all. I've heard that there are programs that you can run the exposures through and it will "balance" the shot out. I just don't have the capabilites to do it at this time.

Do you have a (real, full) photo paint program? I was given Corel with my first puter in 95 and have been working photos ever since quite a lot and I have yet to fully utilize all its capabilities. There is a good PP program for free that has all sorts of 'auto' effects, GIMP. I am planning on DLing it to my desktop but haven't gotten around to it yet. My geek swears by it, and it can do 'smart fill' where you select an area with like a person in it and it will remove him and smartly fill the space with the 'background'. I imagine they have a tool to do the high contrast stuff. But usually that is done with taking the same shot with different exposures, and with a P&S, I do that by first half pushing on the sky and moving to the view, then half pushing on the foreground and moving to the view, then cut and paste the bits I want.

This shot is definitely doable without using HDR. Maybe just try to learn a few simple techniques with whatever program you have. Trust me, you don't have to do something totally advanced.
