it's a savings tool they came up with last year. You put money into it to save towards your next Disney vacation. I think the money is held by Chase Bank, and insured under the FDIC up to 200k or 250k.

Make sure you read all the fine print before signing up for this. And do a search on dis. There's a thread with very angry posts about this.

I love it and I hope they keep it around, as long as Target gives me the 5% off Disney GC!

Thanks so much for posting this. I did a disboards search, and holy cow, there are a lot of complaints! However, it seems to be a good place for those of us with gift cards to "park" the money, potentially earn a bonus, and pay for tickets as 1 transaction. It clearly states in the FAQ's that you can purchase park tickets with this account. However, I am a little concerned that some have been told they can only purchase packages. I think I'll give it a try.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Ok, I've been putting off buying our last PAP and adding DDP. Called today and bought both using my DVA account. I have a DVC reservation. The DDP already shows in my DVC account, but I'm not sure where to look on MDE.

The FAQ also says that you can use the account to pay for room charges. I'll be trying this, rather than getting a GC mailed to me.

Just want to clarify something . . . I need to purchase my park tickets FIRST before I can book FP+, correct? We haven't been to WDW in a while. Should be interesting trying to figure out the best plan of attack. Thx!

Holy acronym! I had to think WAY to hard about this one. MDE???

Correct. Your tickets have to be linked to MDE in order to book FP+. You'll be able to book for as many park days as you have on your tickets.

Jodie

MDE = My Disney Experience
This is where all of your reservations/trip components are linked to your account on the WDW site.

OK - so I set up the account with a $10 charge to my credit card just like one of the pp's explained. Then I added 5 gift cards. No problems to do this. Hopefully things will go smoothly when I go to redeem in a few months.

You know what would be nice??? We have a couple of cruises booked through Costco (solely due to the huge cash card they give). Normally, I call in my gift cards to them little by little (Costco in turn calls them in to DCL). I wonder if Costco could just call in the DVA number? Would sure be easier than calling in all those gift cards + on a 5K cruise, the bonus would be $100. Something else to figure out.

Do you know if you can use it to pay for OBB expenses too on DCL? If so I'm sold! I booked an HAL cruise through costco but no gift card for me... I wonder if they only do that for DCL.

When you use the DVA, make sure to tell them to put it in like a gift card. The CM I spoke to today didn't know what at DVA was.

Can you just call DCL and pay? Or do you have to go through Costco then DCL? Seems silly.

Any time you use a travel agent (not just Costco), they have to handle your payments.

I think Costco gives stateroom credits for the other cruise lines, and they aren't as large as the rebate on DCL.

I doubt you can use the DVA for onboard purchases. I read where you cannot use it to pay your WDW hotel charges, etc. I think onboard expenses would fall into that same category. Unless when you paid your cruise balance, they would let you overpay at that time, crediting your onboard account. A good question to ask.

Jodie

I like the DVA idea. I use ing right now but it have a tendency to "borrow" from it. Right now our cruise is in 2015 and booked with dreams unlimited, who is a TA.

I think this is a lot like the Costco question. How does a TA use my account to pay the bill?

I went to Target & they gave me a $500 limit. So I canceled the card & went over to SAM's club for the gift card. They had the 3-$50 pack for $142.60. I ended up buying 24 packs, 79 gift cards and saved $192 off the trip. Target saves you like $1-$2 more. My SAM's club had 25 packs so I was lucky.

they gave me a $500 limit as well however what i do is make a cash payment for the amount i want to spend and then buy the cards. i do it all in the same transaction so if there were ever any questions they could call right through and verify it was a cash payment.
the most i have done this for is $1500 so not sure what the cap would be on this. $500 is a spit in the bucket imo.

Question for those that have the DVA. Do you have to request your bonus at 120 days? Does it appear in your account? Do they just mail it?:confused3 Trying to figure out if it is worth it or not. We are close to the 120 day pay off for our trip. Thanks.

We just opened our DVA yesterday, so it is new to us. From what I read, your account must be open for 120 days before requesting your bonus. You have to pay for your package, tickets, etc. from the DVA account. Then you have to request the bonus gift card. They say it can take 6 or so weeks to arrive.

FYI
$1850 at one time with a Target Red Debit card. We have to get another $1000. They said that as long as the $$$ is in the bank acct, there is no limit on debit card purchases.

Not sure if we understand your post correctly.

However, we can tell you that Target red card debit card places a daily limit on your account. Not what what your bank account balance is.
As target does not have access to see how much money is in your account. In fact, when you pay with debit red card it takes a couple if days for them. To even process your transaction with your bank. When you swipe that red card they have no clue if you have the funds or not.

We attempted to buy over $1,000 with our target red debit card and the transaction was declined. We called red card number from guest services and they explained all the above. You build a transaction history based on all your past purchases...this is how they determine what your daily limit is. The more you use the card the higher daily limit red card will give. However, if you not making frequent purchases with red card that daily limit will be reset.
We spoke to a number of red card team members and mangers and there is no way to increase your daily limit on the card.

This as explained to us has been put into effect due to the data breach. Red card won't approve any large transactions. Just in case that your account was hacked

However red card phone rep was able to give the store an override code to allow us to use another form of payment ( normal bank debit card) to pay and the store manually gives you the red card discount

When we went back to the store to make a much larger purchase (using a pharmacy rewards coupon) we went direct to guest services and explained the deal
As we were buying over $20,000 in gift cards. We knew the red card transaction would be declined
Team members were fantastic and they understood as we called red card and explained what we were doing. They talked with store manger and said that the red card computer system would not approve such a large transaction. So red card authorized the store manager to manually give us the red card 5% discount and use another form of payment.
In our case we just paid with cash...as most normal bank debit cards have daily limits and did not want another issue.

Store had to break up the transactions into $5,000 lots. As the register Locked up once we reached this amount. Due to the amount of barcodes scanned at one time was reached.
Was no issue at all. They just applied the red card discount to each transaction; the pharmacy coupon was scanned and took the amount off as well. Since that coupon is good for one full day. Not one transaction

Could have not been smoother or easier to do the above.

Should not this was back when you could stack the pharmacy rewards coupon and employee discounts. This is no longer true.

This is why we bought the cards in one large lot...so we can get the larger discount amount on all cards. Instead of having to buy a few cards here and there over the course of time.

Now that you can't stack the discounts...we have no reason to shop at target for anything.
We are still really disturbed that no matter what our bank balance is...we can't make large transaction purchase without jumping thur hoops
Essentially our bank account is held hostage by red card..as they get to determine what we can and can't afford. No thanks

About 5 weeks ago is when we made this purchase. We had no problems. When we went to check out we asked if there was a limit and were told that with the debit card it goes by bank balance and there is no limit. I don't know what to tell you. I hope you have a great trip and everything works out for you.
