Disney Fantasy -- Mechanical Problems

A couple of added notes. Re: on board credit, so how much would one suggest is appropriate to give if you did it per passenger? Cause according to my calculations, $200 times the 1250 staterooms is $250,000.00! How many of the companies we all work for are willing to take that kind of hit!?

On other items, we did see a nice selection of bar snacks outside La Piazza every night. And we had soft pretzels on deck yesterday.

The term is actually RAM. Or Restricted Ability To Manuever. Basically it's a safety protocol the port has to keep everything moving smoothly. They gave the Fantasy the latest time so that they all the time in the world to get her safely into the channel, and the pier without rushing to get the next ship in, or having something happen inbetween. I wouldn't be surprised if she had at least 2 tugs with her, just in case.

Just got off this ship. Disembarked around 9:15. Longest line I ever experienced in 9 cruises. Had thick soot on my aft balcony for 2 days. Very loud & vibrating in room 6192 due to shaft/propeller issues. Got a bottle of champagne for inability to use our verandah x2 days.

Thanks! You always have the best tenichal explanations!

Yeah, I was pretty sure that wasn't the correct term (that's why I used quotes).

If she really had prop issues that were causing vibrations like some posters have indicated, it is highly unlikely she will be sailing on time. If the problem was something different, like a drive motor or something where parts could be available to repair the issue, there is a much better chance of her sailing.

Time will tell.

Sometimes the term"casualty" will be used.
Disabled would be more like the ship wasn't generating power and there for couldn't move on her own.

It really depends on who the speaker is.

250000 is nothing for a big company like DCL and you have to spend it on the ship so really it's not all lost.

Sorry it's a lot to ANY company and by "spending" it on board they essentially giving you what you buy, plus it was listed as refundable on our bill so if you didn't spend it, you get it back in cash or refunded to a card.

And it's still a great good will gesture when they aren't required to do anything by the contract we all agree too!

No it is not a big hit. It just less margin. Unlike other cruise lines they are very profitable on their rates. Alot of lines need what you spend on board DCL doesn't. They make money.

From the company's side it's obviously a manageable hit. The point is it's still a good deal of money and if the credit were extended based on passenger and not stateroom it would be an unmanageable hit.

Oh another note I forgot, I have not seen this before on previous 7 night voyages, but last night they held a farewell reception at 4:30 and 7:30 akin to the Captain's Reception with the officers all out and free drinks. Thinking it might have been another way to smooth over missing castaway cay.

Wow!!!
Greedy much???
They are NOT obligated to give guests anything at all. Read your contract of carriage. They have a right to change/skip ports of call as needed/necessary. Their only true obligation is to refund the port fees charged which for Castaway Cay are about $18.PP. ANYTHINGthey do above that is a courtesy! Be grateful, not greedy.

No, the letter specifically states it cannot be stacked and it has to be the same guests that were on this cruise. It is pretty specific.
Yep. Greedy. Thanks for noticing, like I care.

What gate are you at in the airport? My flight is delayed and just hanging out at On the Border.

Wow, is all I can say. The Fantasy had an event. :scared1:

I am sad and concerned for my favorite vessel. She is in need of care, and I am too far away to hug her, and assist in her restoration. :tilt:

Some rods, bearings, shafts and blades were likely stressed during the Hurricane Sandy event, that possibly finally failed. :duck:

We have missed CC prior and received nothing for compensation.

For DCL to offer 20% discounts and OBC for future sailings to these pax, something must have really gone wrong, besides missing CC.

Perhaps since it was NOT weather, DCL was kind enough to compensate.
Or, current prices are so high, they need to give out discounts aboard to get folks back. :lmao:

DCL ships miss CC all the time and receive no discounts on future sailings.

Interesting

I read more of this event, and perhaps that vibration in the aft may be repaired after all. :duck:

Some have always felt she had a bad prop from the get go. A prop slightlty out of balance. That also could have led to an event.

I was aboard during the Hurricane Sandy event, and I wouldn't discount this current event may be related.

The props and stern were out of the sea every other set of waves, ship running at 4 knots, winds above hurricane force, surface seas 10 m, rogue sets delivered every 20 minutes, at 18m, for 4 hours. Believe it or not. I was there. A Force 12 for a cruise ship. :crazy2: Unprecedented.

After that many more spoke of vibrations in the aft cabins, more than the Dream. :scratchin

Interesting

JMHO

A reminder to those aboard this sailing, often these discounts can be combined with the Onboard Booking Discount. So keep that in mind.

The props were out of the water? Need expert opinions on that one?
