Ok...I know you can redeem disney dollars @ WDW, but can you buy them there? Or, do you have to buy them at a disney store? TIA!! :bride:

You can purchase Disney Dollars at any Guest Services location including the theme parks and DTD.

We bought some at Epcot Guest Relations last week. All the parks sell them! My only problem with having them is they're almost too cute to spend! Note I said "almost"! ;)

I know I'm risking life and limb by asking this, but here goes...

Why, if you are AT WDW would you spend US dollars to buy Disney Dollars to spend at WDW?

I'm am really curious.

You can give the kids some bucks to spend on their own, and it's a cute way of doing it! You can charge the purchase to your credit card and have "cash" to use! I really haven't a clue....I purchase them at the disney store for children who are going down, as gifts throughout the year, so that they have spending money when they get there!
for example....taking my neice down in October with her two sons...every two weeks from now til the trip...I go into the mall purchase $25 dollars worth of Disney bucks...and then when we get down there in October....each child will have plenty of money to spend without making Mom go broke!

My DS5 loves them...they are so cute and thought he'd like to use them...just extra "magic" that you don't get anywhere else :)

You can buy them at your resort at the front desk too, but when I was there in December, it was a cash basis only. I couldn't charge them to my room or use a credit card.

As asked before...why would you buy Disney Dollars after you are on Disney property? If you are spending the cash anyway, would you not just use the cash. That to me is like using a $50 bill to get a $50 bill?

We do purchase Mickey Money before we go, but we view it as a savings fund for the trip that we "forget about" until we arrive.

Well, yes, it is exactly using $50 to "buy" $50...they're just a cute thing, especially for kids. DD (7) wanted to use the Disney dollars rather than regular US cash when in the parks. She had earned $25 in vacation spending money this spring, and chose to have it in Disney $, which we purchased upon arrival in Epcot. Disney dollars also come in $1 denominations...cute souveniers. I wouldn't go and buy hundreds of dollars of them, but a small amount for DD was nice.

And really, why NOT use Disney dollars? Doesn't cost anything extra but a couple minutes of our time to get them! :)

Just a cute thing for DD (7), only a small amount ($25), as noted above.

And again, why NOT? Doesn't cost anything extra other than a few minutes. :)

That I do understand. There are people (have seen them here on the boards) that budget let's say, $500 spending cash (for fun) that arrive in Disney, head to DTD and get $500 in Disney Dollars. That I do not understand. It spends the same way. You are trading $500 for $500, but the Mickey Money can only be spent on Disney merchandise. (Meaning at WDW, Disney Store, Theme Park, etc) If you don't spend it all, you take Disney dollars home with you that are only good at a Disney Store or for your next Holiday.

I love the Disney dollars, This past Chritsmas We went for our family Vacation, We left on Christmas day.....everyone in my family asked what to get the girls this year for Christmas and I said Disney Dollars, We ended up with like 300.00 for both kids, and since we were staying for a week it was perfect.......It let Us save a whole lot of money and the girls were so happy that they got to get whatever they wanted, I just put there dollars in an envelope for each of them....Since we take trips often when ever anyone ask what to get for the girls I say either contribute to the college fund or Disney Dollars.....

If you don't spend them all, you can easily trade them back in for greenbacks.

Disney Dollars are an atmosphere thing for some people. It's not about any kind of material or financial bennefit, it's about one more small piece of Disney, helping to complete the feeling of immersion in the Magic.

Laugh at those who "waste" time by buying Disney Dollars if you will, but first remember how it feels to be ridiculed for your own Disney obsession.

I probably woudln't actually buy them at the park but I do get them through my reward sites. Yes they can only be used at disney but you can use them for anything. If you aren't on the dining plan you can use them for food or give them to your kids for shopping. Any leftover I have I just use them for the next trip. I probably woudln't buy 500 dollars worth that seems pointless to me but since I get them free by rewarding why not use them!

We live an hour away from a Disney Store. I'd like to buy some Disney Dollars to help my DD save for our upcoming trip. I've heard that you can order them directly from Disney, but I cannot seem to figure out how. Anybody know how to purchase them online or over the phone? :confused3

Whoa! Take it easy on the coffee there, Stitch.
No ridiculing was done. You took a comment just a little too personal. I am not Disney obsessed, maybe that is why I do not get it. :confused3
