Lisa -so glad he is okay!! That must have been very scary!!
Yeah - scary is getting THE call from the Army and them telling you just about nothing other than the details of the accident! No info on his condition ... no way contact him ... NOTHING!
Within 30 minutes of them contacting me ... I had calls from the media! TV news ... print news .... I was so overwhelmed and just wanted to put my little boy to bed and go CRY!
Not to take away from Deb's tragedy but ....... I'm going on .....
Anyway .... for like 2 days I got NOTHING! I got a local frm the family group here on the Air base to see how they could help. Long story short ... they had an airman in Iraq who was able to get to DH. I talked to him! FINALLY He was SO sedated! Doesn't remember a THING! He told me to call into work and tell them he would be late! LOL
He was being airlifted to Germany ... but I couldn't hear where so I waited to be called. And no call came!!!
I went on the web and searched military bases in Germany ... then medical centers. Three phone calls later .. I had his floor nurse!!!!
Know what???? They had no idea what had happened to him. He didn't know anything -- and wanted to know what had happened!
i DIDN' TKNOW WHETHER oops hearing about the accident would be too much of a shock! (one guy died - another injured not as bad as him) I managed to put him off for about a week -- I finally had HAD it with the Army -- how long could I keep lieing to him!
I told them if THEY didn' ttell him -- I WOULD! I arranged with the nurse to have a priest with him -- to help him deal with the guilt over the death.
It turned out in the end, a colonel told him MMENTS before I did! The floor nurse called me to tell me it was done.
I have STORIES to tell about how the military treats our wounded ... but that's another forum I guess ........
