If you visit Disney's Hollywood Studios during the holiday season and enjoy the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights, you're already looking for something purple - the famous
purple cat!
Every year, visitors to the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights search for the hidden purple cat. But did you know that the purple cat was not originally intended to be part of the Christmas display? When the lights were originally packed up and given to Disney, a purple cat from the Osborne Family's Halloween light display was accidentally packed up as well. Since then, Disney has changed where they put the cat and return visitors love to try to find where the cat is hidden!
We've got three birthdays to celebrate, so let's start with Friday's and work our way forward.
First we'll head to
Disneyland Paris, where we celebrate the July 10th, 2014 opening of Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy (known in English as Ratatouille: The Adventure) at Walt Disney Studios Park.
This motion-based trackless 4D dark ride shrinks guests down to the size of Remy (the memorable rat from
Ratatouille) and takes you into the kitchen of Gusteau's famous Parisian restaurant ... where you are being chased by Chef Skinner! The ride is located in Toon Studio and is the newest addition to Walt Disney Studios Park.
Happy birthday, Ratatouille: The Adventure … or as they say in French, bon anniversaire!
Next we head over to California to celebrate the birthday of The Disney Gallery at Disneyland Park.
First opened on July 11th, 1987, in New Orleans Square (above Pirates of the Caribbean), the Disney Gallery features artwork related to the history of Disneyland. The first exhibit, called The Art of Disneyland, ran from 1987 to 1997 and featured art and scale models of various attractions from the history of Disneyland, including a scale model of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.
The Disney Gallery closed at its initial location in 2007 (this location became the Disney Dream Suite). A new location opened October 2, 2009 on Main Street USA.
Happy Birthday!
Today’s birthday is an exciting one for my fellow runDisney enthusiasts. Today we celebrate the 70th birthday of runner (and runDisney consultant) Jeff Galloway!
Jeff ran cross country and track in high school, college, and graduate school. In 1972, he was chosen to represent the US on the Olympic team in the 10K event. He was the first winner of the Peachtree Road Race (now the largest 10K in the world), set the a 10-mile road race record of 47:49 in 1973, and in addition to continuing to run races of all lengths, serves as a consultant to dozens of races of all sizes. Jeff creates the training plans for runDisney races, and can be seen speaking at runDisney event expos.
Happy Birthday, Jeff! We hope to see you participating in runDisney events for many years to come!
