DISmoms Round TWO! Don't Axe, Don't Tell!! 4/30-5/4/10 updates 9/17

Crazy week!!! I'm not sure where Ellen is not so don't know if she will be posting soon.....

Came back from a weekend back in Florida and my MIL went to the hospital with chest pains (she wasn't even gonna go until my FIL said she was nauseous and light headed - HELLO!!!!). All tests good, heart cath showed one artery 60% blocked so not enough for stent. Just medication for now.

As she was on her way to hospital, Jeff gets a call that one of his salesmen from Florida (and a good friend) died of heart failure that same day! So Jeff is on his way back to Florida right now for the funeral.

And yesterday I drove 9 hrs round trip to drop Ally off at a midway point for my parents to pick her up and take her back to Ohio.

It has been non-stop craziness!!!!

Tonight I think I will hit the outlet mall, no husband to slap my hand when the credit card comes out, and no child to say "I don't like that" when I pick something out. Aaaahhh, should be a nice night!

I'll touch base with Ellen so we can get started on the next segment!!!

Good luck getting her off the beach...:beach:....lucky girl!

Sorry to be MIA- we went to the beach for a couple of days. Saw friends we haven't seen in far too long on Long Beach Island, which is where we always vacationed every summer until 4 years ago. Now I need to do laundry and pack for HHI- we leave Sunday morning! I will try to post an update tomorrow morning, though! I know how badly you all want to go to Tea!! :cloud9:

Just back from WDW and all caught up on the trip report.

Great updates. Ellen, You have had a busy summer. I hope you have a great time at HHI.

Kara, Your house is beautiful. I love the deep golden yellow color you choose.

Aaahhhh....High Tea at the GF....a lovely and refined tradition held near and dear by Princesses, evil Queens, and DISmoms alike....For Kara and I, we were Tea veterans, since she had been here with Allie last year and I had been with Lonnie last year. Everyone else was a HT newbie.

Cammie & Pam-

Kara & Cammie-

Joan & I-

2010_0504dismoms20100231.jpg

Our carriage awaits!

2010_0504dismoms20100227.jpg

Most of us (if not all of us) ordered the Grand Tea- tea sandwiches, scones, jam tarts, pastries or trifle or berries & cream, a glass of sparkling wine and our choice of tea. The tea comes in either a traditional pot or in a press pot- I always ask which is which before ordering, because I want the tea pot.

2010_0504dismoms20100232.jpg

The server pours the first cup-

2010_0504dismoms20100233.jpg

2010_0504dismoms20100234.jpg

And then she covers all the tea pots with a cozy to keep them hot.

2010_0504dismoms20100235.jpg

The first course is an assortment of tea sandwiches, a slice of pate, and an onion tartlet-

2010_0504dismoms20100236.jpg

What IS it that happens to a sandwich when the crusts are cut off??? How does an egg salad wedge go from plain boring egg salad to Fancy, schmancy egg salad finger sandwich with just a couple cuts from a knife? Finger sandwiches are just soooooo delicious!!! :lovestruc Next came the scone, with Devonshire cream and jam, and a raspberry tartlet-

2010_0504dismoms20100237.jpg

The scones served in the Garden View tea room are heavenly. They are light and delicious, unlike all the other scones I have tried. Yummmm.... Kara was REALLY happy about everything, too!

2010_0504dismoms20100238.jpg

For the final course, you are offered a choice of English Trifle, assorted pastries, or strawberries & whipped cream. I had tried the trifle last year, so this time I wanted to go for the pastries. Most especially because I really, REALLY wanted this-

2010_0504dismoms20100240.jpg

Isn't that swan so sweet? Yummy yummy as well-

What a wonderful, relaxing way to spend an hour in your day at Disney. I think we all agree that this tea will be a tradition we keep every DISmom trip. AND....I think all the moms are planning to come back with their daughters (except me, because I am the mom of a bunch of handsome but smelly boys who have no business being in this tea room! :rotfl:). But NEXT time....I'm wearing a DRESS!! And a BIG HAT!!!

Time to head out....here are some pics of the GF bazillion dollar floor-

Outside, we waited for the bus in style-

Geez- at the GF, even the ashtrays are classy-

2010_0504dismoms20100253.jpg

A great day- only thing missing was Lonnie....:sad2:

High tea looks awesome. Worth a trip to the world in itself. I think your boys would enjoy the experience of GF tea. Esp if there were cute young ladies dispersed about the room. ;)

Excellent post with fantastic pictures of the tea. I am trying to talk DH into tea for our upcoming trip and these photos might help sway him!

What a wonderful, relaxing way to spend an hour in your day at Disney. I think we all agree that this tea will be a tradition we keep every DISmom trip. AND....I think all the moms are planning to come back with their daughters This DISmom is beyond happy.....the previously unavailable ADR for High Tea at the GF during our Oct/Nov trip has been found! Morgan and I will be having tea on Oct. 30...I have one very happy DD13 and when my DD is happy, I'm happy!:goodvibes (except me, because I am the mom of a bunch of handsome but smelly boys who have no business being in this tea room! :rotfl: I honestly think Tyler and Timmy would love it....). But NEXT time....I'm wearing a DRESS!! And a BIG HAT!!! Me, too because we all know how AMAZING I look in a hat!!! :rotfl2:

A great day- only thing missing was Lonnie....:sad2:

Too true, Ellen....a group of DISmoms minus one (especially Lonnie :hippie:) is not a complete group! :sad2:

Yes Please!!!

The High Tea looks highly wonderful! I need to find a lady to "tea" with on my next trip. Maybe when we go with our kids in 2013. I'm sure Miss Londynn would love it! She'll be 6 by then.

updates are wonderful as usual. it is getting me more excited to go in Oct. I just finished our tie dye shirts. All I can say is use really good gloves. I look like a corpse. lol

Yuck! Really need to wear gloves!! :rotfl: Glad your second batch has left you without monster hands!

We're going on Liberty - Haiti, Grand Caymans, Cozumel, Jamaica

I'm a little nervous that it's not DCL, but it looks like lots of fun!

I totally get the nervous thing- when you are attached to DCL, it's hard to think anything else will come close. But there are definitely good things about RCI, too- and the ship you are going on will be soooo cool!! And there's a casino, so that's a nice addition (well, for my DH- I am a HORRIBLE gambler. He actually LOSES if I am even in the casino!! So I'll be staying away.....).

That's funny - where are the pics?

Yea- where are the pictures of your t's?????

Citrico's looks so pretty! Another one that is on my "someday" list! :rotfl: Looking forward to hearing about your tea!

We ate there last year- the veal chop was delicious! :goodvibes

Love going to have tea at the Grand Floridian! My sister and I do it every trip. Never gets old.:)

It's just such a girly thing to do, isn't it? I LOVE it, too!!

To backtrack a bit, I'm going to hijack a couple pictures that Cammie posted on FB of our *STAR*.....I think these are some of the best ever!!! Thanks, Cammie!

As far as our roamings around Epcot, my photos can't begin to compare with Ellen's, with the exception of this little guy.....
133-1.jpg

See him in there?:cutie:

And this one of the ever-famous, ELLEN.........
089-1.jpg

But my most favorite of all that I took at Epcot that day is this one....As the skies parted and a coolness fell upon us (and the angels sang!)....
137-1.jpg

My mother would be so proud, NOT!!!:rotfl2: But, hey, it WAS 3 million degrees and Rita was calling our names!

Yes, I am so proud of my dancing abilities, and Cammie's pics really show it the best. :rolleyes2 And i can't wait to see you and Peter in the Ditch in October!!

Of Cammie's pics, this one is MY favorite!

39703_1535453394871_1490917866_31352622_2908756_n.jpg

I wasn't lying!!! The woman kissed a lot of monkeys!!!

You have to kiss a lot of monkeys to find your prince...oops. Sorry Pods. :rotfl:

Just puts us that much closer to next year!!!! And did you know I am giving up a week in Jamaica to be with my favorite DISmoms again????? The sacrifices I make for my gals!!!

I had no idea! Who wanted to go to Jamaica? And WOW! I feel SO HONORED!!!

Really? I didn't know that. You must really love us! :grouphug: I'm giving up the high school music trip that weekend....I'm co-president of the Music Boosters. But, then again, am I really giving up when I'm choosing a weekend full of laughs and good times vs. headaches and teenage angst? :confused3 Hmmm....I think I'm coming out ahead on that one!

You won't get fired!! You are a rockin President, they couldn't do it without you!!

ooh Jamaica or dis mom trip...that's tough. A band trip vs dismoms? No brainer. LOL

I dunno...I hear those band trips are pretty rockin'....:rolleyes1

I'd pick DisMoms !!! But I am hoping for another free trip in April/May next year!! Unless of course we do something terrible in October and are FIRED!!!!:lmao::lmao:

Never, never happen- you two are the best pole dancing escorts there are!!

DISmoms it is, though they may fire ME as co-president, especially since my son will be in Disney this year instead of at the marching band finals.... (hmmm...)
Please be a good girl, and hope for a May trip....I'd love a chance to meet the famous Rosie!:cool1:

Yes!! Hope for May!!!

Great new updates!!!

Thanks for the Pebble Beach photos - lots of wonderful memories coming back to me! :goodvibes

Thanks! You must be leaving any minute on your month long Disney tour- have a BLAST!!!!!!!

First she has her DAY of Fame Now she's HoB Nobbing with the Famous !!!!:lmao:

That's right!!!
IMG_7940.jpg

For real!! People know she's a star now so she gets special treatment. :thumbsup2

How did you really end up gettting to go to the kitchen? That's very cool.

Have a great time at LBI!

We asked our server to tell Harold that we LOVE his short ribs recipe with mascarpone polenta and have made it many times for many people who all now think I'm some sort of cooking genius, but really it's all thanks to him. A minute later, she came back out of the kitchen and said "He wants to invite you into the kitchen". well, ya don't have to ask me twice!! Anyway, we took pictures FOR TIMMY who is a big Top Chef groupie....not that I wanted a pic, or anything... I wish I had time to write more about what we did in NYC, but I am sooooo busy right now! Here's a couple more pics-

The BEST watermelon martini EVARRRRRR!!!!! At CHOW in the village-

IMG_7932.jpg

I was on a quest- couldn't remember where they had it for 2 nights of traipsing around the village and then....there it was!!! Not even on the menu anymore, but they made it for me anyway. Soooooo happy they did!!

Here's the doggie we made friends with, who is sticking her butt in my chest to be scratched, because that's what Sweet Pea does when she likes you...-

IMG_7944.jpg

And the woman who we met on a corner in the West Village who rescued her from a life of abuse by Pit Bulls in fights (Sweet Pea was the bait dog) :sad2:

IMG_7947.jpg

Yes, i know her life story now, she was a fascinating woman! Knows the Dali Lama! Typical, right?!

Here's the crew at Po, where we ate the first night- and yes, I know allllll about them, too, they are all long time employees, especially the guy in the middle who has been there since it opened-

IMG_7895.jpg

Po is the restaurant Mario Batali opened way back when witha friend from NJ- they are all from Jersey- and it's where he "became" Molto Mario. He is no longer a part of this restaurant, but guess what? The food is rated higher now without him. Not only is the food incredible, it is reasonable AND they are so cozy and friendly there. Great, GREAT restaurant- we did the tasting menu and it was INCREDIBLE!!!!! Pods & I at Po-

IMG_7891.jpg

Their famous Guinea Hen, grilled under a brick- bow and worship, everyone- it is THAT GOOD! :worship:

IMG_7884.jpg

Love reading all the different takes on the same trip! :thumbsup2 And Kara you are a trooper! And Ellen, I'm speechless - you are a celeb wherever you go!:worship:

I don't know about that, but I do have a good time wherever I go, for sure!!

I agree that it is fun to read several perspectives of the same trip. This is such an entertaining report. The Mom's know how to have a good time!

And, yes Ellen, we will be going on the Members Cruise here very soon. Like 37 days away or so. Can't wait. We will be spending the night before the cruise down at Vero then after the cruise going back to BLT for 3 nights. Both places will be firsts for us. We have been down to Vero for drinks but never stayed there so we are looking forward to it. And this will be our 3rd Members Cruise.

One day we're going on that Members cruise- it's just bad timing with September and kids going back to school. Lucky you going on your 3rd!!! Very relaxing at Vero- I hope you like it! We're going the night following our cruise.

You just made my jaw drop!!! I cannot repay you enough but if you want, I am willing to ship my ex MIL over as a form of payment...er torture. I am a giver!!!! ;)

Hi DAWN!!!! Happy to help- but you can keep your gift to yourself! No offense....

So is Jeff home? Good catching up with you the other day- glad the MIL is doing ok....

Good luck getting her off the beach...:beach:....lucky girl!

It was a BLAST!!! Too much fun, actually! Ever hear of Van Goh Espresso infused vodka? Well...let's just call that the deadliest liquid known to man, shall we?

Just back from WDW and all caught up on the trip report.

Great updates. Ellen, You have had a busy summer. I hope you have a great time at HHI.

Kara, Your house is beautiful. I love the deep golden yellow color you choose.

Thanks, welcome back! How was WDW? And wish me luck- I still need to finish packing (but just for me).

High tea looks awesome. Worth a trip to the world in itself. I think your boys would enjoy the experience of GF tea. Esp if there were cute young ladies dispersed about the room. ;)

Yea- ummm...I think I'll go with the girlies and leave the fart kings at home...:rolleyes1

Excellent post with fantastic pictures of the tea. I am trying to talk DH into tea for our upcoming trip and these photos might help sway him!

I hope he says yes!! It is so elegant!:cloud9:
