Between 9 kids she was only given drugs 31 times in 4 months it averages out to less then one time a month per kid. I don't think they were dealing drugs. I do think they were picking them up for her but that is it

So that's ok then? No, not in my book.

Let me preface this by saying, I hate drugs. I hate cigarettes. They have no place in school or in the community. So, if the goal is to remove drugs from the school and the community, why wasn't an effort made to do so? They targeted stupid kids, rounded them up, exposed their identity and killed any opportunity of following the trail up the food chain. The PD used the kids to enhance their image but the bottom line, nothing has changed in that school or any other school. They haven't done anything about the flow of drugs they have just trained the users to be more careful.

but that was just to her....how many times were they getting for other friends with emotional needs?

and I've seen plenty of kids who sell/score some in high school, to move on to bigger and better once they get to college....

exactly!

I don't understand, from the news clips, the news articles or from any other sources, why are some people thinking these kids only got the drugs for the undercover cop? Is that how you think undercover operations work? The udercover goes in, and targets perfectly innocent kids, tricks them into getting her drugs, they never would of touched had she not come in their lives, and figure, that's enough, now arrest them?

Here's what I am thinking, I am thinking, the cops in there to begin with for a reason...the school has a growing drug problem. The cop goes in, asks some questions about how she can score, and is pointed into the direction of these kids. They obviously must have had a reputation, for the cop to know who to go to.

I do not buy for one minute, that these kids just scambled to get her drugs because she was a pretty, young thing. I honestly would be more devasted with my child if he chose to do an illegal activity, to impress someone, than if he just straight out chose a life of crime. I honestly do not believe that this cop went into this school, and turned innocent kids into criminals over a 3 month period.

Why are we just talking about pot? Why has it gone over people's heads that they also pushed Ecstasy? You can insist all you want pot is a "nothing" drug, but how do you defend Ecstasy? That is a pretty serious drug, doing serious harm to kids.

I agree they did a bad thing, but what they were arrested for something somebody else should have been arrested for. The police department were getting numerous phone calls about the drug use at the school and they took the easy way out and arrested 9 kids to make themselves look good. The kids aren't the dealer. They may be users or they may not be. They might get it for thier friends, but my guess would be that thier friends have thier own sources. the police officer played she was the new girl in town and she didn't know anyone to get the drugs from. If the police department really wanted to take time and solve the problem they would have secretly taken these kids in and find out who thier source was. Instead they blabbed to the media and pretended they solved a problem that they did not solve. I have also seen plenty of stoners in highschool become successful adults. These kids don't have a chance if they are proven guilty.

she scored ecstasy once. So that is only 1 out of the 9 kids. The reason i don't think they are dealers is because

1. she would have gotten more drugs out of them
2. a drug dealer wouldn't complain about being broke
3. why would a drug dealer have to put drug money seperate unless he has to pay off the real dealer for it
4. they searched the houses and didn't find anymore drugs
5. they found $3500 in one house that's it. There could be many reasons to have that money in the house. It doesn't even have to belong to the kid. It isn't enough money to make me believe someone is selling drugs
6. the article said she targeted kids she heard talking about smoking pot. It didn't say anything about being tipped off by anyone

I honestly don't care if she is pretty or not the kids did a bad thing, but not as bad as they will be punished for.

Rich, I don't disagree with everything you have said about drugs. What I question is did the police get the right bang for the buck? If their goal was to eliminate drugs from school and ultimately the community, it seems that with the arrests of 14 to 17 year olds they came up a day late and a dollar short and worse yet, blew their cover, instead of going after the big fish in the pond.

It's certainly an interesting one - obviously, I would prefer it if the police had arrested the manufactures of the drugs - I believe that their crimes are far worse than the children's as creating the drugs ensures that yet more people are going to suffer from the substances.

However, I do believe that what the children did is a criminal and a morally wrong - what they did was to make money from other people's suffering (effectively).

They have to answer for that.

As an aside, I HATE illegal drugs. I live in the "drug central" of the UK, a city named Brighton. There's a lot of heroin abuse here and it's not uncommon to find syringes lying about on the beach or in the park. Ecstasy is also a problem - I swear, every night someone collapses in the night clubs and ears a ride in the ambulance. I've toured the wards in London for drug abusers ranging from Cannabis Induced Psychosis to strokes and heart attacks and even permanent brain damage.

A good friend of mine hanged himself last year after he started to develop symptoms of Cannabis Induced Psychosis. Another friend is starting to suffer from the same thing.

I really do HATE it when people try to defend drugs. They're illegal for a reason - I mean, if they were low risk the Governments would release them to the public and charge tax!

No one is sure if they actually "made money" or just passed the money on. No one is disagreeing that what they did was legally and morally wrong, but are questioning the degree of the charges and the effectiveness of the operation. If anything, it made the real drug dealers more secretive, more elusive and perhaps more dangerous.

I completely agree on the more dangerous part. I think if they happen to get caught in the near future they are going to blame it on the 9 kids who were caught whether they rat them out or not.

I just read over 1/2 of this thread----bravo for catching these dealers is all I can say! :thumbsup2
I was just wondering this as I was reading though.......to some of you who think it's not fair, what would your opinion be if it was your child who was being given access to drugs in their school by people like this? Would you still say it was unfair and "poor kids"...probably not. :confused3

Yes I would, because I would rather the dealer in jail then the kid that got my kid what they asked for. I wouldn't be happy with them, but I would be more mad at my kid then them. I don't know if you read the second article that is posted on here, but if you didn't you might want to. I think webmasteralex posted it.

I hate Drugs, and especially some people that abuse Prescription Drugs.Makes me want to throw up .

My understanding of the situation in public schools, at least in this state, is that the normal type of privacy laws that apply to citizens, do not apply in the schools... (ie: lockers are the property of the school and are subject to search and seizure at will, kids can be tested for drug use at random as related to extracurricular activities, etc...).

I think that I file this under that same file as every other crime. If you aren't doing the crime, then you don't need to worry about getting caught doing it. If I go down the street speeding, I expect that I may get a speeding ticket. If I am having physical relations with the opposite gender, I may expect to get pregnant. If I am selling drugs at school, I would expect that I could get very caught. I'm either selling or I am not, I am either pregnant or I am not. I am either guilty or I am not.

Choices have consequences. When we make adult choices, we reap adult consequences whether we are "ready" for them or not.

While I get that you think the police officer was a woman made a difference in what these boys did, do you really believe they have never gotten drugs for anyone else? She just happened to go to these boys and they all sold her drug, but it as their 1st time doing it?

Maybe. Do you think she asked them if they had ever bought pot for anyone before and if they said, "no," she told them to forget about helping her? I doubt it.
