Stepping on soap box........

My poor little DD3 broke out in a fever Monday  and I stayed home from work with her Tuesday and Wednesday. I took her to the pediatrician Wed saying she had a high fever (101), a bit of a croup cough, threw up once (she does this anytime she has a fever). The doctor checked her out, took a urine sample but didnt send it out. I felt he kinda blew me off, patted me on the head (not really) and said to go home, she has a virus and will get better soon.

So my wonderful DH took off work to stay home with her today. She had a 101.5 fever this morning before I left and I felt horrible leaving her but I had to get to work. (I'm a teacher and its hard to just take off consecutive days.) I left work as soon as I could and arrived back home and she still has a high fever 101 +. I call the pediatrician back and they said the exact same thing to me. Although they said if she is still feverish Monday to come in again. Here is me  :headache: :sad2:

So I take her to our local Urgent Care around 6 pm because we have a great doctor there and its fast and friendly and they listen to you. So I again explain all of the symptoms. He listens to her and immediately wants a chest x-ray. Yuppers...that was the trick....she has pneumonia! Poor thing  . They showed me the x-rays and got us all set up with medicine and treatments and love and concern. :flower3:

What a relief. My DH and I were really going crazy today with worry. I knew it was more serious than a simple virus....you know how you can just tell. So Praise the Lord!!!!!! :yay: She is all set up now and hopefully will be getting better over the next few days. In fact she is sleeping right here next to me and I am greatly relieved. Don't worry, I will be calling the pediatrician's office back and giving them a piece of my mind....blowing me off like that :snooty: :snooty: :snooty: As I always say, when it comes to healthcare you really gotta be a lion about it!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for listening to my ramble!

On a lighter note:
All of these adorable crayon roll-ups are great. Maybe I can try some this weekend!!! Is there a bookmark on how to make them? I will check!

OK back to read the thread! :surfweb: Have a great night everyone!!

Yay for you for getting her the care she needed.:thumbsup2

But, I am so sorry she is so sick:sick: I hope she feels better soon.
:headache: :headache: And ohh I would be so mad at the doctor's office. I had a similar situation with my kids. They were sick with a stomach type illness for over a week so we go in to the Dr. and he says it is just rotovirus. Well a few nights before we had taken my youngest to the urgent care because he had bloody stools. They tested his stools. But it takes a week to get the results. It turned out that both kids had Shigalla which is a bacterial infection in the digestive system and they had to have antibiotics. Several kids in my Daughter's school had it. And I refuse to see that Dr. I will only go to the other one's in the practice.

Anyways, I hope she feels better soon.

Moms know these things! So glad you finally found someone to listen and I hope she's better soon!

I picked up simplicity 5832 when they were 99 cents. It looks similiar to that dress but not exactly. I haven't used it yet, so let me know and I will send it to you.

I love the nieces (and nephew) and Ella is adorable and all the crayon roll ups. I am thinking of making one for my friend with leukemia but she is 7, almost 8 so I wonder if I can do it with colored pencils?

And this is for Heather. Megan left me a note taped to the computer (I guess she knows I would see it there!). It says: "I hov som more toofs loos" and has a little picture of a princess.

She has four loose teeth, including her two front ones! I told her if they all come out at once she is going to be eating applesause.

Not sewing, but I am making an autograph book for her birthday Disney weekend. I'll try to post pictures later if you guys are interested.

Have a great day Disboutiquers!

Questions:confused: for those of you making large quantities of crayon roll ups.

Do you have a system to make it go faster? Do you have help cutting all that fabric? That is what takes me the longest. I am a slow measurer.

Also are you giving them out with the crayons in them? I am thinking 14 boxes of crayons would be kind of pricey?

Yes the marking and cutting is what took me so long too. On the last set I made for my daughter, I did get some help from my hubby in cutting but he is such a slow cutter that I could have cut 3 to his 1. And, the mistake I made the first go around was letting my son pick which fabric he wanted for his friends and I had about 7 or 8 different fabrics for 19 kids and they all seemed to need a different thread, so that was a lot of changing out to do & that takes time. With Parker's she only used 3 fabrics with 3 different threads and it didn't take me as long.

I did purchase the crayons to go with them b/c if I didn't I was afraid the kids and their parents wouldn't know what they were for or ever use them.

That is just too cute, especially both "minnie's" fighting over "mickey" :)

It was really cute! Suddenly my younger neice grabbed him and said, you're Mickey so you're with me. Then his sister grabbed his other arm. Kids. :rotfl2:

So cute! And that boy is so handsome, he'd better get used to girls fighting over him!!

Right now the poor guy has the opposite problem, not that a 1st grader needs to find love. ;) His sister is in 3rd grade and has this friend and he really likes her. She has the tendency to tell him she hates him. He has come home crying twice over her, poor thing. :sad2:

What a great pic! I love those shirts, they are on my wanted list at YCMT.

They both really liked the shirts, and it was an easy pattern to follow. Lots of pictures to help you through it. I'm so excited because the younger neice is the one going to WDW with me, and she is the one that hated all custom clothes. That pattern has saved me. She loves it!

Hi everybody!
Welcome home to Teresa and Heather!

I've been going to the dentist every Friday this month and tomorrow is my last visit for 8 weeks. I'm so glad that I'm almost done. I just have a couple of fillings tomorrow and I hope he'll take the stitched out from my crown extension surgery last week, the stitches are making me nuts, I keep getting poked by them, I shouldn't complain, I thought the tooth he ended up working on last time was going to have to get pulled but when he was doing the deep cleaning he discovered that the tooth wasn't nearly as bad off as he thought so he saved it. I just have to go back and get the perm. crown on in 8 weeks. Then it's off to the oral surgeon for two implants, those have to set for 5 months before they get the perm crowns on those but I'm done after that. Two years of dental stuff coming to an end. YEA!

Thanks for welcoming us home!

Yikes, that's a lot of dental work! I really feel for you! Glad it's almost over.

The shirts are adorable, but the kids are even cuter!!! I must agree with the others that say your nephew needs to get used to being faught over! He's a little cutie. How sad that the 3rd grade girl can't see that. ;)

Stepping on soap box........[/SIZE]
Wow, what a rollercoaster you've been on this week with her. It's so frustrating when doctors won't listen to you. I've been told that I need to get a new thermometer when I told the doctor my kids had a fever at home. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that they use ear thermometers and don't do it correctly. Grrr... I feel your pain. Moms are almost always right and doctors need to listen to us!

That is crazy - I hate how you have to fight to be treated (I know all about it, I lived with the pains of a cancerous tumor growing inside of me for almost a year). I will be praying for your DD so she gets better soon!
YIKES! :scared1: That's awful!

:scared1: I never would've noticed!! Wow! I feel like an old school DISer now! :rotfl:
I'd say it's time for the tag fairy to make an appearance around here again!

On Luke having strep- I've never heard that little kids can't get strep! My friend's 2 year old just had it, so that sounds like a really silly comment from your doctor! Doctors! They infuriate me!

And, I have to find Arminda and Lydia some shoes to wear!

I just realized this morning that Tessa doesn't have shoes to wear, either. Are Arminda and Lydia going to wear their BBB crowns?

And this is for Heather. Megan left me a note taped to the computer (I guess she knows I would see it there!). It says: "I hov som more toofs loos" and has a little picture of a princess.

She has four loose teeth, including her two front ones! I told her if they all come out at once she is going to be eating applesause.
I knew what her note said right away because I can read "5 year old". Tessa got her first loose tooth this week and she was SOO excited!

TJ - I think that Cinderella pattern is an out of print Simplicity. I know a while back we were discussing it and how hard it is to find it. Good luck!

I got my other neice's shirt done. It was much easier the second time. Here is a picture of both girls before school today...

th_P5212376.jpg

Love it! I am doing the same colors right now!

I need a favor...

Please keep my FIL, Harold, in your thoughts. I found out late last night that he has had chest discomfort when walking for the last 1.5 weeks and just now went to the dr. and goes in for a stress test today. I was full of mixed emotions since they are going with us on our trip and I want him to be fine to go. Of course the selfish side of me was ticked that he waited so long to see the dr with the vacation being so close. :rolleyes1 But I had to laugh because my MIL had the same reaction! We should know later today how the stress test turns out.

Ok, ladies, Long Time no hear, I know.

First of all I SERIOUSLY want to THANK each of you for your prayers throughout my big life change. I think that prayers are one of the only 2 reasons I am able to pull mmyself from bed each day. The other, of course, is Isabelle.

And we each want to thank you for the kindness you have shown us by helping us prepare for our next trip. I did finally break down and buy a machine, but I haven't been motivated enough to work with it. I have a stash of non- Disney fabrics just dying to be made into cute outfits, but I don't have to patience right now to cut out patterns and learn to sew them correctly. When it comes to Disney outfits, however, it is a whole different story. No matter how cute I think they are, I can't seem to convince myself to sew any. I think I know why. Last year when I started sewing (yes, by hand) I did so, b/c I wanted Levi and Isabelle to have coordinated sets. Everytime I think about sewing a Disney outfit, it breaks my heart. I want Isabelle to have cute things to wear, but not making any for Levi is something I can't fathom, yet. So you girls who are doing this are amazing in my book, you have made my day and Isabelle's too. Especially you, Beth, for putting this together for us. Seriously, I am in tears (of joy, for the great friends I have, though I've never met most of you) typing this. I love each of you. I wanted this public so that all could see. You really have made a difference for us. It is one less thing for me to worry about (the guilt over not making any for Isabelle)! This is going to be a hard trip for us, very bittersweet.

Now that I have somewhat composed myself, and looked at the last few pages, how do you make the crayon roll- ups. Maybe that is a good place to get started again?

I just wanted to tell you that I think you are amazing and I admire you. I can't begin to imagine how you feel. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I need some help!!!

Ok, I'm sure Heather would tell you that I actually need LOTS of help, but this is about sewing...

I'm pretty sure this is discontinued, but does anyone know what pattern this is and/or where I can find it?

IMG_7700.jpg

This is the dress that Alicia and Isabelle would like me to make for the Big Give.

Teresa I bought it on ebay. It is Simplicity pattern 9383. I bought it on ebay for about $20 and to be perfectly honest I would happily pay double. It is the worlds best Cinderella pattern and for the life of me I do not understand why they discontinued it.

OK, got one more! Here's a little number that was inspired by a set on :wizard: - it was really easy, just shirred the first few inches and the straps.

ellaflowerdress.jpg

I love this fabric! I really like those straps. I may have to give that a try next time (and here I thought I was finished with little shirred sundresses for the year).

TWOB4HIM: EEEK! I sure do hope your littlest is feeling better soon. I am glad you got if figured out. You know I did just the opposite w/ my little. She had what appeared to be an ant bite on her finger. She had just been at the park w/ my grand so it seemed reasonable. Then a week later she had a fever. she'd just woken up and she didn't seem to feel bad so I took her to my grands and said to keep an eye on her. No fever the rest of the day, no abnormal behavior. The next day I went to get her out of her crib (yes she is still in a crib and she won't be removed until she can have a twin bed-I REFUSE to buy a toddler bed!!) and she said "ow mama, you hurt my arm" I grabbed her waist and lifted her out. She was burning up w/ fever. But since she had no other symptoms I assumed it was just a random virus and would go away. I didn't even connect her arm hurting to her fever, cause how can her arm hurting cause a fever??? This was friday and of course b/c I thought it would go away we didn't get to see the doctor until Monday. She ended up having a staff infection. the bite on her finger wasn't a bite but a manifestation of the staff. The doctor didn't say this, he said she had "an infection" but as soon as the pharmacist saw the med combo he knew it was staff and told me how kids are coming up w/ staff infections often now and they don't know why and usually the first sign is a "bug bite" type sore on a digit. Not 2 weeks later I heard a segment on the radio about it... I am such an awful mom...she had a STAFF infection and I just thought it was a freaky virus that would go away. Even w/ the antibiotics it took 7 days to get rid of her fever and probably almost 3 weeks for her to let us touch her arm again.

The crayon rolls are fabulous. I am thinking about doing them as favors for the kids in Little's class for her birthday. I am going to take in mini cupcakes (or decorated cookies-do I want to do that to myself?) and I think she can give out crayon rolls-that would be nice. We really don't have any friends w/ kids, heck most of our friends are musicians-so mostly single:laughing: 'Cause who can live w/ them??? So her parties are always just grown ups and big kids who are related so I never get to make cute favors, Mac is turning 10 and we are having his party at the bowling alley and he doesn't want cute stuff anymore. We're thinking of doing custom t-shirts for all of the kids ( I only expect between 5 and 10 (won't know until I send out the invitations next week).

Alicia!!! Welcome back sweetheart! We are very glad to hear you are getting back to sewing and I think the crayon rolls are exactly perfect to start w/ (the instructions I think are in the bookmarks on pg. 1) Also super excited that you have a machine now, what a different world it will be for you! I am so excited to work on Isabelle's outfit!
which brings me to my next point. I chose to make a friends around the world outfit for Isabelle b/c I had more fabric than I needed for Littles outfit. HOWEVER upon further inspection I found that I actually only bought 1 yd of the white word fabric and my Joann's only has it in blue. Does anybody have extra of this or know where I can get it? LMK Thanks

...t.

Cindee, great to hear about your aunt. I hope she continues to improve. :thumbsup2

ms_Mckenna.....The walker bag looks awesome......would look better in blue and red, if you catch my drift. :rotfl2:

also, on the thumb sucking thing.....please do NOT think that a child who is older and still sucks their thumb does so because his or her parents haven't tried to get them to quit. PLEASE.

My son is 5 and a half. he sucks his thumb CONSTANTLY. we are getting him evaluated for sensory issues over this. Seriously. We have tried EVERYTHING. I WISH he took a binky, then I could take it away from him!! We have tried to get him ONTO a binky! You name it, we have tried it, nasty tasting stuff, bribery, threats, reminders, stickers, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment, etc etc etc. We have even tried external appliances both on his hands and in his mouth. He cannot keep his thumb out of his mouth for five minutes. EVERYONE assumes DH and I aren't concerned with it or trying to get him to stop, when in all actuality, we are working our butts off trying to get him to stop. We had to stop yellign at him so much in public, because we felt bad about it. Now we remind him in more subtle ways, but we're talking about a kid who, when you tell him to get his thumb out of his mouth, removes one thumb, turns his head and pops the other one in without even thinking baout what he just did. We even tried a radical suggestion from a doctor and TAPED his thumbs to his hand so he couldn't get to them....he sucked on his fingers. We put him into mittens....he sucked on them. It's crazy and gross.

OK, sorry. I know I went off, but it is something we deal with every day with him, and it hurts that he can't stop for FIVE FRIGGING MINUTES when we have constantly reminded him about this for years.

My point is, be thankful your child is on the binky. You can take that away. But don't take it too soon, you do NOT want them turning to their thumbs.

 Dh's sister was that way. She did eventually stop, but they tried everything they could think of & nothing worked. DD4's best friend sucks her thumb too & we all try to help her quit 'cause her mom is really frustrated with it. DD2 is off her pacifier finally & it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but the first time we tried to take it she started sucking her thumb instead so I gave it back. No way was going to let that start when she was nearly 2.

Ok- I don't have interfacing, nor have I ever worked with it! Can I do the rolls without it?

t- beri- Don't go out of your way, use what you have or can find! ;)

Hi everyone...been lurking and reading and loving eveyone's outfits and the crayon rolls and bags and ....wow this could go on....

I got my new camera yesterday!:cool1: Still trying to figure all of the new gadgets on it:headache: ...but it will come...I can figure it out in June on the long trip to WDW...

But, I wanted to show you my sewing machine...I wanted to show what true vintage looks like...but it is a good machine for a straight stitch!

Now, I am back to sewing...look at that ticker:scared1: Still have so much to do. When my models are home from school, I'll post some pics!

Have a great day!
