OK, got one more! Here's a little number that was inspired by a set on :wizard: - it was really easy, just shirred the first few inches and the straps.

Love both outfits, but this is my fav! Looks like you found that fabric I used when I CASEd your wrap skirt! I LOVE that top! How wide did you make it? I may have to try shirring again. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes not so much. :confused3

LOL! Yes, I did find that fabric - I loved your wrap skirt, but wanted to switch it up since Ella already has one. I just used the width of the fabric - so 44 inches. Ella's chest measurement is 21.5, so I figured that was close enough to double, especially with seam allowance. It worked out pretty well.

Thank you all for the advice on "the binki issue" Katie really needs to be done with it. Like I said before, I think it was mostly me. I am very codependent on her being a baby. It is so sad to see her growing up. Out of 4 kid she was my first, only and last baby. I do not want her to grow up. However, I also do not want her being made fun of or having horrible speech because of my issues :) So, I think I am going to try the binki fairy tonight (I love this idea) for a more gentle approach. If that doesn’t work I am going to have to go hard core and just take it like CampbellScot suggested. We have tried everything else including buying the Dora bike she so desperately wanted. I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow. Wish me luck, it may be a LONG night.

It's so hard when the little ones start to grow up! It's easy for me to be "tough" cuz I'm not their mama...if I ever have a child, good lord I'm sure I'll be SNOWED by the little eyes and the tears.

really though, your little one will make it through this. And honestly, she may take it better than you might think. She will get through this okay. So will you.

And really...you don't have to yank her cold turkey. Steph put boundaries on the paci for her Megan...not out of your room...then not off your bed...then only when it's time to sleep. That is a very gentle way to progress. It's great to do it that way. The only time commando is called for is when your child is not responding to the gentle boundaries and refusing all attempts to wean her. At that point it's behavioral and just pure stubbornness...you'll know when it's hit that point!

then y'all can call me...the binki police!:cool2: ;)

I feel like I haven't been able to really post in a long time. I have loads of things I've been sewing & I finially have some pics to share.

This Cinderella dress was a birthday present for dd4's best friend:
2008_05150047.jpg

They both loved it & I think I'm probably going to have to make dd one now.

I used my Tink valance from the Wal-Mart clearance bin to make the girls matching sundresses:

I also made dd2 a couple of seersucker sundresses, I only have pics of one of them though.

And I finished the Daisy Kingdon halter dress. I love the dress, but the pattern made me a bit crazy at times.

I've finished dd2's version of the Daisy Kingdom dress, but she hasn't tried it one yet. I made her and her BAB a Donald sailor dress for her birthday, but I don't have any pics of them either. I'm also working on a top for me & then I need to get busy on dd4's sailor dress.

cute cute cute!!!!

I hope it went well! I love the binky fairy idea. DD10 was my biggest binky child. I got her off it, but then baby brother came along when she was 21 months old and she kept taking his. Finally they were probably 2 and 3 and I took them and their binkys to Toys 'R' Us. We paused at the trash can (covered with a hinged flap) outside the front door, and I said if you throw your binkies in the garbage can right now, I will take you in and buy whatever you want in the toy store, but you see this garbage can, we can not ever get them back out again! They both went for it right away and we were DONE with binkies. Luke never liked them. Lily had a few, but was not that into them so I never even had to take them away, she just didn't want them. SO about 2 weeks ago, Sugarbees was over with baby Saylor and Lily noticed her bink, but no big deal. A day or 2 later, DS8 was cleaning out the kitchen drawer that holds the sippy cup lids and found 4 or 5 binks :scared1: which he then showed to Lily, who has now been a binky freak for the last 2 weeks! She is my last and my baby and I'm having a hard time taking them away from her, but she talks really well and when she has one in her mouth I can't understand her, so I think that is what will force me to throw them all away. I hate to though, because (when she was a baby) I bought a set of 3 with her name engraved on them. I am so sentimental!

oh miss Lily!:lmao: How on EARTH do you deny that child anything?!

My mom took my bottles from me when I was little...those were my THING...and I got over it...but one day I saw one in the cupboard and just fell apart. So mommy gave them back to me for ONE day. then they were gone again. Poor me...:sad1: Y'all don't even want to KNOW the closet issues I've got!;)

I'm so glad y'all understand that it's me giving in to the binki that Gabby. I mean she loves her binki but she only has it in bed (supposed to) I know that it's time to take it from her but it's hard when a) she goes to bed so easily with it and b) she's my last baby and taking it from her makes her feel less of a baby.

<sigh>

I've always been a bottle/binki natzi. In the trash they all go ont he first birthday. Gabby has been hard though. Wahhh

bottle/binki nazi...:rotfl2:

Been mostly in lurker mode for the last couple of weeks. I have been sewing, though! Sadly, nothing Disney. DH just accepted a new job with a higher salary, so I'm trying very hard to talk him into celebrating at Disney, but he's not going for it. :confused3 He thinks we should save the money or something. :sad2:

Caleb had preschool graduation last Friday and I made Ella a little something to wear. I don't have any great pics of it, but it's Carla's peasant top and easy fit pants.

Sorry about the disguise sticker - that child doesn't belong to me, so I didn't want to plaster his face all over the net.

Okay I LOVE THIS!!! She looks adorable in it!!!! May I ask where you got that fabric from? I think I may have missed that part. That is soo cute. Love the story about the "white Princess too....aka the Bride"...hahahaha!! :rotfl2:

Cindee, great to hear about your aunt. I hope she continues to improve. :thumbsup2

ms_Mckenna.....The walker bag looks awesome......would look better in blue and red, if you catch my drift. :rotfl2:

also, on the thumb sucking thing.....please do NOT think that a child who is older and still sucks their thumb does so because his or her parents haven't tried to get them to quit. PLEASE.

My son is 5 and a half. he sucks his thumb CONSTANTLY. we are getting him evaluated for sensory issues over this. Seriously. We have tried EVERYTHING. I WISH he took a binky, then I could take it away from him!! We have tried to get him ONTO a binky! You name it, we have tried it, nasty tasting stuff, bribery, threats, reminders, stickers, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment, etc etc etc. We have even tried external appliances both on his hands and in his mouth. He cannot keep his thumb out of his mouth for five minutes. EVERYONE assumes DH and I aren't concerned with it or trying to get him to stop, when in all actuality, we are working our butts off trying to get him to stop. We had to stop yellign at him so much in public, because we felt bad about it. Now we remind him in more subtle ways, but we're talking about a kid who, when you tell him to get his thumb out of his mouth, removes one thumb, turns his head and pops the other one in without even thinking baout what he just did. We even tried a radical suggestion from a doctor and TAPED his thumbs to his hand so he couldn't get to them....he sucked on his fingers. We put him into mittens....he sucked on them. It's crazy and gross.

OK, sorry. I know I went off, but it is something we deal with every day with him, and it hurts that he can't stop for FIVE FRIGGING MINUTES when we have constantly reminded him about this for years.

My point is, be thankful your child is on the binky. You can take that away. But don't take it too soon, you do NOT want them turning to their thumbs.

Oh, sorry - I didn't mention where I bought the fabric! It is from JoAnn.

Thanks everyone for the compliments!!

Cute outfit! You have precious children as well!!

The walker bag is really cool! It's a good thing you can sew because I'm sure it would be pretty hard to find a custom walker bag like that!
I have actually never foudn a walker bag that would work for him to carry his books etc out of. I felt so smart when I came up with the idea years ago. :rotfl: They really have been wonderful for him though and those walker bags are the only reason he will ever set foot in a fabric store with me lol.

Sigh of course it is because we do not have a JoAnns anymore. :sad2:

Update-

They are doing a quadrupile bypass on my Aunt tonight. I am told they have a wonderful surgeon.

Hope your Aunt is doing OK. My grandad had a quadrupile bypass last Tuesday night and came home this Monday - and he's 83.

Just to share DD 4's new fleece blanket. She came with a Dora one when she came to us last week ... which I immediately thought hmmm I have to give her other options. I found this at Walmart on clearance for 6 bucks! I bought Pooh for her and a Nemo one with the sharks for her brother who is 16 months. Sad thing .... when they came they had no idea who Pooh was. Well I was a bit taken aback by that but I know there are others who are not Disneyaholics. Course DH and I both came from VERY non disney families and both had the nickname of Poohbear when we were little. I pulled out I's blanket to cut start cutting it and she said Mommy *I* likes sharks. The child does not well did not know who Nemo was. My DD 14 is home sick and I honestly thought she was going to pass out when she heard that lol. She and A are on the couch under the covers as we speak watching Nemo. So looks like we have 6 months of hard core brainwashing till our trip in December! Thankfully in our house that is not to terribly hard to do. :sidesplit

Oh, that's a really cute fleece panel! I haven't seen that one before. I'm sure they'll catch the disney bug in no time!

Very cute blanket!

How tragic that those children don't know who Pooh or Nemo are! :faint:
They're so lucky they have found a family that will brainwash them properly!!:thumbsup2

Thank you:)

As for Miss. Katie's binki :confused3 I have no clue how to get rid of it. It is totally my fault. I got rid of it for 4 days and gave it back. :rolleyes1 She just seemed so grown up without it and I could not handle it. Now I am so sorry. She will not let it out of her site. We tried to give it to Cinderella at Disney World and Katie was all for it until we actually got there. She started screaming in the line "DON'T LET 'RELLA TAKE MY BINKI". She only has one left and it is the last one. I will not buy anymore! I explained to Katie today (after searching for 20 minutes to find the thing) that this is her last binki and when it is lost, there are no more binki's. Katie's response was- "when I lose my binki you go to Target and buy me a new one" :rotfl2: She will not take one to college right?

I used to carry a bottle around, in my teeth! Until I was 5. :lmao: If I didn't see the pictures, I wouldn't have believed it. Kirsta was almost done with her binki until we to Disney. She only needed it at bedtime. But I guess it was a comfort thing while on vacation. It was her first trip from home. We just slowly gave her time limits and eventually she just wasn't interested. My nephew never took to one. He's 3 now and carries a sippy cup around.

I like this. It must be another storybook skirt?

I iron the fusible fleece to the outside and the interfacing to the lining. You've probably already figured it out by now though. :)

I did a double layer only because Megan is tall and I wanted to make it a little bit longer. It would look fine with only one layer.

IMG_0157.jpg

This is really cute. A story book? Dang!! Now I have to make one of those to!

The Binki Fairy visited our house for both of my girls. She takes all the binkis and leaves a present. It's very exciting. If she accidentally leaves a binki behind, you can't use it or she will take your presents back! Oh, dear! No one wants that to happen!

She's very popular in our family. My DN even dressed like her for Halloween one year!

Oh, this is good

Ya that is what I originally thought as well. Unfortunately I do not think it is the case lol. I added straps and will post pictures later. She is in the bath right now. I have pulled it up in the back and it still does it. :confused3 DH says to live with it I am just going to probably let her wear it to play in and to the lake so whats the big deal.

It could be too snug. I know the top should be, but if it's too snug, I think it would make it pull. An idea to make it a "bit" roomier, would be to make a placket, like on a mans dress shirt) and put it in the seam area to open it up some. Front or back. Even sew buttons on the placket. It would give just a few more inches.

Cindee, great to hear about your aunt. I hope she continues to improve. :thumbsup2

My oldest (now 4 soon to be 5) was a binkie sucker and my youngest (turning 3 next week) is still a thumb sucker. The binkies we were able to get rid of b/c we went home to St. Louis (from Dallas) and forgot them! :scared1: It was too late at night to stop and get new ones but we explained it to her and she was fine. She was upset when we came home and we explained to her that Santa (it was over Xmas) had taken them to give to a baby.

Now I think my youngest is old enough to get rid of her thumb but I have no clue how to go about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Also, since the baby is coming in about 6 weeks, would it be better to wait until after the baby arrives or bite the bullet and do it before?

Here is what I have been working on this week.

Crayon Roll-ups!!
crayonroll-up2.jpg

Upclose pic of Parker's -- her's has ric-rac and her ribbon is pesonalized with her name on it.
crayonroll-up1.jpg

I decided that I would make Parker and Michael a crayon roll-up this weekend, they loved them and have used them just about everyday since. They wanted me to make their friends some, so I made their classmates some. I made 14 for Parker's room and 20 for Michael's class -- I don't want to see a crayon roll-up for a while. I don't know how Tom whips this stuff up but it sure took me longer than 90 minutes. We had all sorts of crayon roll-ups around here Tinkerbell, Strawberry Shortcake, Camoflauge, Cars, Skulls, Bandana and Floral. The pic just has their two, bandana & Cars b/c I forgot to take a pic of all of them together.

Since I'm still at work I can use my "Counselor" voice and say:

based on the behavioral standpoint of thumbsucking I will say that it's a really complex habit and very often battles to get them to stop only make it worse. It's not something that parents have or have not done. It's usually a habit started before they were born and it can be tough to break. Most kids quit thumbsucking on their own between 4-5. It doesn't usually become a dental issue until after that time. Truly though, well intentioned parents can often make the habit harder to break by nagging. It just does not work.

sometimes setting boundaries will help. making thumb sucking a "bedtime only" activity. If you see your munchkin with his/her thumb in the mouth say "Oh I guess you are tired..." make a point to lay them down in their room. Not mad or upset....just taking the cue from THEM that in engaging in a bedtime only routine is telling you they are tired. Let them know if they are NOT tired they can get up but no thumbs in the mouth unless they are in bed for sleep. You will find some kids will sit in their room and suck their thumbs for a while. Which is fine...it's their choice and they are feeling out the boundary. But the important part is that you are creating an atmosphere in which your munchkin can CHOOSE to stop on their own. Pointing out peers that don't thumbsuck is helpful...not to shame them, just to give them something to relate to. Arranging play dates with those kids can further help. Peers are pretty motivating in this arena. A lot of times kids won't suck their thumb on play dates and every time this happens the habit is weakened. (Which is why a lot of kids stop in kindergarten...it isn't acceptable amongst their peers, and they want to identify and be a part of the group!)

this is a big "control issue" habit. it isn't the parents fault at all. It's a pretty complex soothing mechanism that is very tough to break. But the more hysterical parents get about it, the more anxious the child will become and the more s/he will want to self soothe.

just breathe...keep giving gentle reminders to keep their thumb out of their mouth unless they intend to go to bed. See if that works.

:thumbsup2 <--how appropriate is THAT smiley?!

was that helpful? I've recently dealt with some anxious parents of a thumbsucker with a massive habit!

OH...and I LOVE all the cutie outfits y'all have been posting!!! (to keep it about sewing and all!!!) :rotfl:
