P.S. I have NO pics of Dylan and Emma in these outfits:sad1: Please just enjoy the Dynamic Duo: Chloe & Katie.

Man I wish I had some of those sheets! Adorable outfits!!!!!

Let me ask you ladies a question.......

Do you have people in your family (or friends too I guess) that you WILL NOT sew for?

I have a niece that is 3.5 months younger than Parker that I have sewed quite a few things for. I have sewn b'day outfits, holiday outfits, and 2 coordinating outfits that she wore when we went to Disney. I am never paid for the these outfits, sometimes my SIL will buy the fabric for her and Parker and then I just sew the outfits to even it out. Well, everything I have ever made her is wore one time and that is it (sometimes not even once). It has really hurt my feelings b/c I feel it isn't appreciated and that I wasted my time.

The reason I ask this is b/c I have been struggling lately with whether or not to make her a couple of outfits for her b'day (end of March). I have bought the material already but I still can't decide if I want to go through spending my time making outfits that will never be worn or appreciated.

What are your thoughts?

Good morning everyone! Just wanted to share a few things that I have been working on.

This is for my 2 yo ds...I still have to do the buttons/buttonholes.... dh says this is for when he goes meet McQueen and Mater at Hollywood Studios.
th_IMG_3852p.jpg

The next two are for my dd -
For character lunch at Hollywood & Vine. I made ds a pair of shorts with the same material and am thinking about doing an applique t-shirt for him.

I have sewn for my nephews and niece when they were kids and now sometimes sew for my great nephews. Mostly, though, when I do sew for them it's fairly simple outfits because kids dress very casually and simply in this area. Poor Zoe sometimes feels out of place when I make her something to wear for a special occasion. :rotfl: If you enjoy sewing for your niece, maybe you could find out what she would wear more often. Of course it could be your SIL is afraid her DD will ruin the outfits you've made so she won't let her wear them. I'll admit Zoe has a few things I've made that she rarely gets to wear for exactly that reason - and I could make them again if I really wanted to.

Of course, if your SIL is someone who will only dress her DD in Gap, Gymbo, etc., she may not appreciate the work, effort and thought that goes into something you've made. If that's the case, I wouldn't continue to make things that wouldn't get worn... although "made to match Gymbo/Gap" items might go over better. :cool2:

My SIL is a huge Gymboree fan. Sadly, I don't think she has the best taste and tends to pick the stuff that isn't the cutest in the lines. I've never really thought about doing the M2M thing but I might consider it. Not something I would do, but she sends niece to daycare everyday in Gymbo and DN is absolutely one of the messiest kids I have ever known.

What to do, what to do....

I do have people that I won't sew for. I've skirted around the issue quite a bit because I've not figured out how to say "no way, I'm not sew for you". The only thing I've come up with is "sorry, my schedule is very full right now. I don't think I can do it." The reason that I won't is for much the same reasons that you listed. I've also got the feeling that the mom(s) are too picky and I'd be totally stressed out about the slightest thing that may not be perfect. In these cases, I just won't put myself through that frustration. I buy a gift, and be done with it. Sorry you're having to deal with this stress!

Hi there - do you mind if I join you?

My name is Clare and I'm in the UK and love sewing of any description. Most of my time is spent on patchwork/quilting but I have an 18 week daughter who I want to start making clothes for.

I am very jealous as I've never seen the fab disney fabric in this country so I reckon its time for a visit to WDW just to pop into Joannes while I'm there.

I love the shirt. I need to learn and make more applique shirt for my ds. Thanks for the applique tutorial on the other board. That was great!

Love the Cars shirt!!! The LE dress is adorable!! And the little sailor outfit!!! So cute! I'm thinking the sailor could use a little ric rack or something, but it looks good the way it is too. I think everything looks better with a little ricky racky! :thumbsup2

I really appreciate that button down shirt now that I've made one! It turned out great! I love the other outfits, too! I would add rick-rack to the bottom of the pants to tie it all together. It looks great without it, too.

Those are all great -- super cute! I don't have the nerve to try a button down shirt yet. With the Minnie Dot outfit, I would add some black ric-rac to the bottom of the pants and something else that might be cute is putting a flower or something wear the top comes together.

I just love these shirts. I have the pattern but have not sat down and done it yet! Love the LE Dress!!!!! WOW!
Lori

Thanks everyone! I knew something was missing from the Minnie Dot outfit...I am going to put rick rack on the pants! I also like the idea of putting a flower on the top.

Now that I have done button holes, I am starting to fear it less! I read my manual and found out that it wasn't as hard as I thought.

Hi all. I started my free classes (I received how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin and such with the purchase of my new machine) last Tuesday. I have a silly question. What is a fat quarter? I just saw a post about this a lot of pages ago. I know they are fabric but how much fabric do you actually get in them and what can they be used for? The store that I am taking classes have a special going on now, buy 2 get one free. Also another question. I am a beginner sewer so I don't have any supplies. Besides scissors what else is a must for my sewing basket? Thanks for all your help. Soon I will be sewing some stuff to post.

Laura

That is great..I never even went for the free class that they offer when I bought my machine. All the classes were on the weekdays, and I didn't have anyone to watch my kids then. Can't wait to see what you make.

Love how you use Ariel on the front and the fin on the back. It looks great!

Hmm..looks like I am missing some of my quotes...

sugarbees - that is so sad about the little baby girl. I can't imagine what the family is going through...what a tragedy!

troijka - I thought I quote you as well, but it was missing...wanted to say that I love your custom...I would love to have some of those sheets! Wonder if they still sell them? I have never seen them.

You raise some good points. My SIL never lets my niece touch nice stuff for fear of ruining whatever it is. I can see some folks thinking it's "home made" (as in inferior) who think name brands are better...I'd point them to some of the :wizard: auctions that go triple digits. My DH's family does not appreciate things that are made for them. So I don't bother. MY family flips for home made stuff. Luckily I have two cutie pie nieces on that side of the family to spoil.

WELCOME!!!!!!! :cutie:

Another outfit to share.... I use the stripwork jumper top, and then use lisazoe's instruction for the skirt. I made it wedges...but when I was done, I realized that there wasn't enough fabric to gather the skirt...but amazingly, the top of the skirt was exactly the same length as the bodice...so I decided to just attached them that way. I think I should have made the strips/wedges bigger...I made it 2 inches on the top and 6 inches on the bottom!

I must add that I got the idea for this outfit from an outfit made by CastleCreation. I really like the yellow and black and minnie dot combo.

The outfit lookds great! Your DD is a doll!!!! I do love those color combinations together!

One question or comment (I am by no means an expert and Lisa Zoe probably has some better advice) but I just did Parker that exact same jumper (only made it into a top) and I used Lisa's illustration as well but what I did was alternate the strips so that one would have the 6 inches on the top, the next one would have the two inches on top and so on and so forth. Did that make sense?

Here is the top I made using Lisa's directions:

That is cute and your DD is as well... even if she wasn't in the right mood for modeling. :-) When I showed how I cut the wedges, I should have added that I make sure to have enough wedges so that the length of the top edge is 1.5-2 times the length of my bodice.

For the girls, I just found khaki jumpers and customized them, but I liked the way they came out, so I will share:

Everyone kept asking if they were triplets this day! Oh, and we had to buy "Safari Minnie" because she had a matching outfit!:)

Here are the outfits they wore to Crystal Palace. I admit, Dylan's outfit matches, but is not made. He just would not commit to wearing "pooh". Lol.

It is so nice to see so many cute new outfits each day :goodvibes

I was browsing on Overstock dot com today and I was amazed at all the boutique outfits on there. They are not Disney, but still cute, lots of ideas there and the prices are so reasonable. I thought some of you might like to check it out for idea sake.

Well, Dylan is 8 (poor boy is so little). KAtie is exactly five weeks older than Chloe, they are 6. But since Chloe is taller than KAtie, she thinks she is older. You know, five weeks is a BIG deal!
