I have finally finished something new:

This is my first ever attempt at applique (albeit a pathetic one):

I figured on DD wearing this over a white top, with white tights as it is still way too cold here :)

I think this is great. I love the more simple styles. That applique looks wonderful too. I'm afraid to try :rolleyes1

YIKES!!! I coach competitive cheer squads and the other coaches and I had to put a stop to parents coming in to practice at all! It was the little girls' idea actually. It was too distracting for them. Two mothers actually got into a fist fight in the parking lot. :sad2: Their little girls were clinging to each other, screaming at their mom's to STOP fighting. It was SO awful. Once we put a stop to parents coming in, the girls started to have fun again. For awhile there, almost the entire squad came to practice in TEARS b/c of the "pep talks" they had gotten from parents before hand. The kids would stand on the floor petrified, looking at their moms and not the coaches. It got to be a safety issue.
I'm sorry your little girl has been a target for an unhappy mom. Being talented can bring ugly comments. Tell her to keep shining!! :goodvibes
These moms need to take up sewing...and Dis-ing...maybe they'd calm down some!;)
Geesh those moms are a lot crazier than out gym. though one parent was banned for her bad behavior. They basically fired 3 of the coaches 7 weeks before nationals and these parents were crazy upset! yelling at the owner fo the gym. whom I met for the first time in over a year at the gym!

That is so sad. i do not think some of the parents have a clue as to what they are doing to their kids.

Sadly we do have closed practices. I miss seeing Leanne do things in practice, but I understand why it has to be that way. I also think the girls like it better :) Our gym will have all of the parents come in on the practice before a competition so we can watch the routine before it hits the floor. We are also allowed to come in and watch the first practice of each month. So it works.

Sadly, it's this way with boys' sports too. I love my son's competitive soccer team, but the parents: sheesh! Why do some parents take their kids' sports so seriously?

That gives me something to look forward to this spring and fall! :lmao: Cameron is moving from coach pitch to kid pitch in baseball and from flag to tackle in football. It should be fun.

As a former competitive and HS cheer coach (in Ohio-near you) I can telly ou, no matter how much a coach tries to avoid there being any drama, oh man! It is always in the girls and parents. I must admit, this is one of the reasons I am not coaching right now. I love it, but I needed a break. Maybe I will return some day, but for now, I SO enjoy the no Cheer mom and girls drama LOL:rotfl: But, I must say, I did have some fantastic girls and parents that have become great friends of mine.
But, I will tell you, take the drama with a grain of salt. When she is done with it all, you will look back and laugh your rear off!!:lmao:

I know what you mean. I keep asking our coach if he is coming back next year and he assures me that he is. Possibly to a new team, in a higher level though. I really hope Leanne moves with him. However, I am sure it will be a new set of parents and a new set of problems. But if I hear one more argument about hair pieces I may go off the deep end!

I also wanted to tell you Miss. Leanne has got her full and is now working on Arabians. I am so proud of her!

I tried my hand at whipping something up last night. Lets just say at 3:30 am I went to bed after I gathered yards of ruffle for over an hour. Only to break the basting threads almost to the end.:headache: It was as sad night here!

Can't wait to see what you girls created last night.

Here is a laugh for the day.

Months ago I bough about 50 spools of thread from voldermart . They were the tall thin ones. I loved all the colors but hated using them because the silver spindle thing on my sewing machine was to short for it. I had to stop ever few stitches and loosen the thread (Ok I am sure you know where this is going).

So last night I was using a spool and was thinking would it be great is this spindle was taller so the tall thread would fit right? So I pull up it and bamm!!!! It does go taller:rolleyes1 :headache:

I cant believe I went all of these months and didn't:scared: know it did that

:rotfl2: I needed a good laugh this morning! This reminds me of the time my husband tried to use sewing sissors of mine. could not get them to work. well the lock was on!!!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That's really cute and I think you did a super job for your first applique.
:thumbsup2

Thanks! In going through DD's drawer, I found a green t-shirt that is exactly the same color as the light green, put it under the dress and it looks like it came with it, so forgetting the whole white shirt idea now :)

Yeah!! I finally got the multi-quote thing going on...

That is funny. I do stuff like that all the time. I can't remember what I was messing with, but I found that it did something cool so I told DH and asked him did you know that it did this and he was like "Yeah, you should read the manual." :lmao:

:rotfl: That's funny...well actually it's not funny...but I had to laugh anyway. It sounds like something I would do.

In response to all of the gym stories. We have coaches that must be totally not interested in teaching. My dd does gymnastics and has the potential to be really good. The coaches arrive to the gym and teach in low rise jeans, that they constantly have to pull up, due to the fact they are very overweight, (not unlike me, but I'm not trying to coach) they can't show the girls what is expected of them, because I seriously don't think they can even do any of those moves anymore. It's kind of funny actually, but my dd learns best by watching the bigger girls. I'm leaving her with this gym for a few more months, and in August, she is getting a private trainer, who is actually athletic...:rotfl:

Attention all Sewers!!
I just wanted to let you all know that I started a group on :wizard: called the Disboutiquers. I wanted to start a sewing group for a while, that was Disney related and not entirely based on sewing ability. If anyone is interested in joining, PM me. Thanks!

I found this site and just the wrong time......This is the end of my first week back at work after maternity leave. I've spent most of today catching up on all your posts and not sewing as I'd planned!!!

To everyone, there are some fantastic outfits posted - I'm jealous of you all. And not just the sewing, the photography too. DH likes messing on paintshop so I'm going to show in your piccies tonite and tell him I want something similar!!

The plan for this weekend is to make a little sun dress for Hope but I've also just been and brought the A-line dress and Easy-Fit pants patterns from YCMT so I might need a little visit to the shops for more fabric!

In the meantime I thought I'd post a photo of the last quilt I made. I found the pattern a couple of years ago and had grand plans as I'd just found out I was pregnant. I miscarried a little while later and didn't really want to make a baby quilt so I made this for an older girl for the linus project.

I've also got a photo of Hope. Her name just appeared, I can't really say where from! I was adamant that I wanted a name that couldn't be spelt wrong or shortened. Her middle name is Amelia which is a great-great grandmothers name on both sides (but funnily enough we didn't know that when I picked it!).

Ok, fabric snobs.... I was at Hobby Lobby last night and they have some amazing new stuff for spring. Great quality too. I love the vintage/retro prints and they have tons of it! Add a 40% off coupon (take 2 and bring your husband :cool2: )

I highly suggest private lessons. Leanne has flourished during her privates. She has them for 1 hour and she thinks it is to much. She gets so exhausted with tumbling non-stop. I have her do an hour because it is $40 for an hour and $30 for half and hour. So I figure I get more for my money if I do the hour. Good luck. I hope you find a coach who will help your DD meet her potential.

Here is what I made while the monkey was at school. She said she hates it because it has buttons. I offered to send it to one of our little online friends who might appreciate it and then she said she would keep it. Whew!

Very cute! DD4 wants buttons & not the easy elastic straps sadly.

This set is the first from my "OK to Wear Every Day Collection" :rotfl2:

Nice! Very wearable & still very cute.

I've seen this top done by a few people lately - what's the pattern? I love it Must make!

I really want to make DD something Peter Pan for our next trip (end of this month!). But she's a unique spirit, and her favorite part of the movie is the crocodile doing silly things! What can I do? I can find a few cute pictues of Tick Tock, but can't figure out how it's going to look "Disney" without a whole lot more applique! Any good ideas?
