DISappearing PEEPS Volume 2

I think another secret to eating so low is to have a cheat day at least every other week.
I would definatly need a cheat day. ;) For ice cream, and chocolate, and chips. Those things just add up my calorie count so fast.

One thing I've discovered I really like are the WW desserts, which only have 150 - 200 in each one.

I need a cheat day for my sanity. My vice is beer/wine, and I can't find any possible way to include that in a healthy 1200 cal diet without skimping way too much on food.

I like the 100 cal breyers cookies'n'cream. The 90 cal rice krispie treats are also good, any 100-cal cupcake pack (most have 5g fiber!)... I also like to add a lot of fruit in for sweets. Strawberries are like 6 cals each, and you can have a half-pineapple for 100 cals. I do stay away from bananas (100+ a pop).

I also try to only eat 400-500 cals by dinnertime. I am an evening muncher and go to bed after midnight usually, so I like to have some extra cals in reserve for a 9-10PM snack. 1 bag 94% ff butter popcorn is about 200 cals, and lots of happy munchiness. :goodvibes

You may want to start at 1500 and see how you feel. Concentrate on getting the most food for your calories, and you may be able to go even a bit lower. Good luck!!

And of course bananas are one of my favorites. :rolleyes1 But I do like strawberries and pineapple. I think I'm going to have my last cup of blackberries today, they are very tasty.

Other low-cal snacks I like are hummus, (though I have to have chips or something with them, so not so healthy then,) Babybel cheese, which has 70 calories in a little round one, and 100-calorie snack packs, especially the Hershey ones, and the Chips Ahoy crisps.

Thanks for the support UM!! :goodvibes How is the Dt Pepsi reduction effort going?
Not too hellish, thank you! I'm OOGLING the food thread!!!!! (Hi DF4E!)

My breakfast was a pumpkin and sausage soup...VERY good and highly filling. I ate about a cup and 1/2 of that. I was still FULL for lunch: A whey Protein shake in vanilla by Twin Lab. Low calorie, low carb, high protein. I've drank a gallon of water (some fake crystal lite) in effort to flush out my addiction. I'm not gittery or cranky...that's where I'm carefully dieting...mostly protein to keep full. Whenever I think I'm hungry, I drink diet Pepsi. This is NOT a good idea. Water is best for that. AM I really hungry? Or am I just thirsty?

Welp, it's nearly 1 PM and so far so good. Since friday till now. Very little caffeine.

Thanks so much for the support and well wishes. This is a biggie for me!

One of my fav things to do for snacks is take a low-cal dip, like hummus, or dip made w/ ff sour cream and onion soup or spinach dip mix, and cut up a bunch of raw veggies like celery, cucumber, cauliflower. I portion out chips (usually ff pringles, but you could use pita chips) to one serving. Those are my reward for eating all the veggies w/ the dip.

Have you tried the laughing cow cheese? They are 35 cals in a wedge and super-good.

Blackberries are pretty good too -- only 60 cals in a cup and 7 g fiber! So keep those. Raspberries and blueberries are pretty similar. One small apple is 60 or so, as well... I cut mine into slices and eat with the breakstone 2% liveactive cottage cheeses.

See, we can get you there!! I know you can do it.

Btw, I found a WW calculator, and based on my 1200 cal intake w/ avg 30g fat, 35g fiber, I would be at 26 points.

Awesome!! :yay:

I need to start drinking my water. I don't think I could give up caffeine, although all I usually drink is one cup of coffee and one soda a day.

Pumpkin and sausage soup... recipe??

Low Carb Pumpkin and Sausage soup*

16 oz. turkey sausage or lean sausage country style (not in link form)
1/2 onion, minced or finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 T. Italian Seasoning- this really is a good flavor with the pumpkin!
1 C. chopped mushrooms
15 oz. can of pumpkin puree
5 C. low sodium, lower fat chicken broth
1/2 C. lite sour cream
1/2 C. milk or cream

Brown sausage breaking into little pieces, drain fat if any. Add onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, and mushrooms. Saute till vegetables are cooked. Add pumpkin and broth and stir well (I use a whisk). Cook at a low simmer for 30 mins. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream and milk. Other than the sausage browning, this makes a good crock pot meal too. Smells heavenly!

This soup feels like Autumn, but is so yummy and comforting any time of year. It's quite filling too.

Maybe I should aim for 1,500? :confused3 I know 1,200 would probably be too few for me. Just today, I'm already at 800, and that's just with breakfast, (yogurt and granola bar,) and lunch, (Lean Cuisine meal,) and a glass of milk, which I rarely drink, but that's all my grandmother had to drink.

There is a good free weight loss calculator on the globalrph website. http://www.globalrph.com/dieting_calc.htm You key in your age, height, and weight, and how much you want to lose, and it tells you the maximum number of calories you can eat to lose weight. And it changes as you lose weight. You will have to drop your calories to lose additional weight if you have a lot to lose.

Last time I was on Jenny Craig, they started me out on 1500 calories per day (when I was 180), and dropped me to 1200 calories per day when I reached 155.

Sounds DEEELISH!! I'll have to try it!

Another sweet treat I enjoy is pumpkin muffins. I stumbled upon this recipe when I was looking for egg free milk free recipes for my allergic son. It is actually a weight watchers recipe. You just take a cake mix - any flavor, but spice is especially good - and add 1 can of pumpkin puree, mix, and bake. 2 weight watchers points a piece. I usually use spice or yellow cake mix, but I have even done it with chocolate. The only problem is the leftovers! You can feed them to the family, freeze them , or take them to work for those helpless soles to eat for you.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! That sounds like an awesome vacation! Where in NKY are you? DH & I both graduated from UK, he's from Ashland, I'm from Paducah. Go Cats!

Thanks for the encouragement. I live about 45 minutes west of Ashland. How cool is that? :goodvibes Lewis County to be exact.

We found our cat, Sam I Am, dead this morning. :sad1: The boys were at church with their cousin and when they made it home we had to tell them. Both of them cried for nearly an hour. What made it really difficult was that they wanted to know how he died and we couldn't tell them because we had no idea. He looked peaceful, no blood, no cuts, no nothing to indicate how he had died. He would have been 2 years old next week and he had always appeared healthy. Any way, remember my boys. They are really upset and have been making references to Sam all day.

On a brighter note, I took Derrick & Hunter for a walk and we discussed Disney World. They wanted to know when we were going to go back. I told them that we would go in May 2010. ;) That way the trip next year will be a surprise but at the same time they can have a date to look forward to.

UM -- I gave up my diet Pepsi about two months ago. I went from drinking way too much regular soda a year ago to drinking way too much diet soda by the beginning of this year. I decided around January that I needed to get the soda out of my system for good. I slowly started substituting a caffiene free diet here and there until I was drinking mainly caff. free. Then I gave up all soda for lent -- helped me to have another reason to not drink it.

Now when I need a good shot of caff. I drink some tea (hot or cold).

It's been 8 or nine weeks and I still hear it calling my name, but the voice gets fainter and fainter. I'm finding that I actually enjoy plain water (filtered of course... this country girl can't stand city water) and am starting to crave the water.

One thing that helped in the beginning was to be a bit "pre-emptive" with my drinking. I'd chug a big glass of water first thing in the morn, another when I got to work, another mid morning, another with lunch... you get the picture. I didn't give myself a chance to get thirsty.

That said, I think that it's not only the sweetness and caff that makes soda so addictive, but the carbonation as well. I still crave the bubbles (if that makes any sense), but I'm staying strong. Much like other addictions I'm afraid that one sip will be too much and I'll go back to my old soda ways.

Be strong! You can do it!!! (Maybe put your soda money in the disney fund or towards a nice massage???)

Beka

I did most of my clinical's while I was pregnant with my first child. I finished summer term in August. Had a baby in October. Went back to school in January. Graduated in March and took my boards in May.

It is harder when you have kids but you can do it.

Woah! You rock! My sis had a 4yo @ home, then gave birth to #2 while on spring break, then right back to nursing school!

1500 is great to start! I love granola, but it's high in cals, and a trigger food for me, so I try to stay away. Look for foods that are going to pack the lowest net carbs. Take total carbs - fiber = net carbs (same applies for sugar alcohols as fiber). Many of the organic cereals are low in sugar and net carbs.

Be sure to drink water before you eat. Try NOT drinking while you eat (The liquid washed the food out, well for bariatric patients anyway, so you could try our little tricks and see how they work for you!) and then don't drink for 1/2 hour after you're done eating.

Chew slowly! Put your fork down between bites. Savor the food.

Sorry to hear about your kitty :sad1:

We're headed back to KY in May for my showers. I told DH we were headed in the wrong direction, we need to head about 7.5 hours south. ;)

I called Disney Dining, and I was able to get all the ADRs for the dates and times I wanted.

Thanks for the link, turns out I need 1,660 a day to get to 150, with the weight I'm at right now, and I'm teetering between being overweight and obese.

That recipe sounds really good and really easy, I'll have to try that, and UM's soup, (except I will make mine with no mushrooms,) and I can do that in my slow-cooker, so that is an added bonus.

I am so sorry. I know how upsetting it is to lose a pet.

I also read a diet trick somewhere, I don't know if it was here, or one of the magazines I'm always paging through at work, but it's to brush your teeth when you think you're hungry. Something with a minty-flavored mouth, is supposed to make you not feel like eating.

We eat the baby carrots with hummus. Yummy and easy, since I'm too lazy to even cut up veggies.

I am thinking of your boys. A friend of ours had a cat that died around age 2, and when they took it to the vet to find out why, the heart had not grown correctly and had just given out. Give your boys a hug from me. I was never a pet person, then our DD's therapist recommended a cat for her, and we all love our kitty. I shudder to think of the day we lose her, so my heart goes out to your family.

I need a plan! DH and I got up at 4:45 this morning to help with a retreat, then we went to church, I got some school work done, and now I have to go set up for the potluck for the end of the retreat. I'm glad to do it, but a) I often overeat when I am sleep-deprived, and b) there's going to be a ton of food. I made reduced calorie coleslaw (with some green apple in it) for my contribution. Help me repeat to myself, nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. I read something that said they did a study, and when people are presented with a variety of foods, they are much more likely to overeat. So, I will fill my plate with things I would normally eat at home, and only one meal's worth (not the 4 dinner's worth I sometimes eat at these things). I don't need pizza, Chinese food, potato salad AND a cupcake. Those are the kinds of choices I've been known to make in the past, and when I look around at potlucks, I am not the only one. I'm going to go drink some water right now.

Does anybody else play the self sabotage game?

It seems like I start losing a little and then my brain gets all crazy and says:

"hey, you've lost some weight. you deserve a treat. go ahead, eat what you want this week, it wont matter, your losing weight now"

Yes it does happen to me

Remember I mentioned my "dislike" of my job and that I was going to start looking for another one?? Well, I was "let go" from that job today so I'll have plenty of time to look for another one! :confused3 I have mixed emotions about this, as it really messes with my budget, but I am confident I will find something. Hey, it's an unplanned vacation!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a new job too. I did not remember you didn't like but so sorry. I remember when I was let go almost two years ago, it's not a nice feeling.

anywayz, the reason i'm posting is because i'm going to see the lion king tomorrow and i'm really excited! :yay: i'll post more when i get home tomorrow night. for now i'm off to bed. :goodvibes

Yes I am ready for spring. It was a nice day yesterday, sunny and a little warmer than the last couple of days but today was yucky. Have fun at the show.

So it's been since Friday night, when I calculated how much I spend on my beloved "hooch".

What is a hooch, your pepsi? I know of that of something else that I can't say on a post.

That sounds really good.

So sorry. I know it's hard to tell your kids about a pet dying. Give them a hug from me.

I saw somewhere to chew cinnamon sugarfree gum

Punkin - I just noticed your location was Georgia. We're neighbors! What part of Georgia? We are in extreme North Georgia. We could spit into Chattanooga, TN.

i live in a little town about 20 miles west of athens. i'm sure i've gone by you MANY times on my trips to nashville! my family lives up there so i go up there a few times a year.

Maybe I should aim for 1,500? :confused3 I know 1,200 would probably be too few for me. Just today, I'm already at 800, and that's just with breakfast, (yogurt and granola bar,) and lunch, (Lean Cuisine meal,) and a glass of milk, which I rarely drink, but that's all my grandmother had to drink.

i keep mine around 1500/day and i'm 5'3", if that tells you anything. i can't remember how tall you are. anyway, the formula i used was goal weight x 12 = calorie intake per day. IT WORKS! i now stay between 130 and 134 pounds and my goal weight was 130. that and drinking lots of water and moderate exercise was what did it for me.

I think another secret to eating so low is to have a cheat day at least every other week. I have read that it can confuse your body and keep it from getting efficient at existing on the lower calorie intake, which helps keep the weight coming off.

i agree with this! as well as just to keep myself sane!

I would definatly need a cheat day. ;) For ice cream, and chocolate, and chips. Those things just add up my calorie count so fast.

another thing about my cheat days is that i didn't look at them like an "eat/drink everything in sight" day. it was a day i could give myself a break mentally from having to keep up with my calories and a day to allow myself a margarita or something. i still ate somewhat sensibly. not to say that i didn't have dessert at a restaurant every now and then on my cheat day. ;)

We found our cat, Sam I Am, dead this morning. :sad1:

 sorry to hear this.

the lion king was AWESOME!!!!!!! i'll post pics as soon as i get them all uploaded. it was a really amazing show. although i did have to set this one lady straight. luke (my best friend's 3-year-old) was talking right after the second act started. he was talking louder than a whisper but by no means was he being disruptive or obnoxious and EVERY KID AROUND US was talking all through the show. you know how kids are - asking questions about "why did that happen" or laughing or whatever. anyway, this woman in front of me turns around and "ssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"s luke really loudly and rudely. then i said in a very loud and clear voice, "oh, i'm sorry. i thought this was a show for kids. maybe i was mistaken." she kept looking back at him and it was just making me livid. finally luke looked at his daddy and said, "i don't like that girl." :lmao: it was pretty funny. she got up and left and didn't come back. and believe me, he wasn't being obnoxious. i don't have kids so i KNOW when a kid is being obnoxious. there was no reason for her to get frustrated.

my2boysrtwicethefun - for some reason this didn't show up in my quotes. I feel the nursing would be too hard for me because I have a very bad memorization thing. I went back to school for a med tech when I was about 20 (I'm 37 now) and I had a hard time with the A&P classes and memorizing everything for that class so I stopped after two years ago credits. I like the medical field though. Maybe just go to work for a doctor's office as a secretary which I also enjoyed too (had that job too) I was going to ask my midwife if they need any help in their office when they open up another location in the same town I live, this way I'll be near to the kids when they are at school. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

I agree, I try to keep mine to one night's worth. And NOT beat myself up about it in the morning, just get up, dust off, and move on.

I did good today... went and did 50 min on the elliptical on level 7 random, 4.5 miles.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
