Main points: I'm on DIS, I live in NYC, I want to meet other DIS in NYC. Any takers?

Do you have access to Manhattan from Northwest New Jersey, or should we plan the meet at NJ? If it's the latter, then I have to have to use public transportation, and I don't understand NJ Transit that much.

We live in FL now, but DH is originally from Brooklyn. We will be visiting his family there Nov 16-18. We will be in the Coney Island area and usually escape DMIL's house for a walk to the Boardwalk while we're there. Maybe a meet on the Boardwalk? Nathans?

I suppose I'd better find out what DH's family has planned before I commit to a meet, but we could probably fit one in.

It's quite unusual to visit Coney Island during the near winter hours, but if the weather is not as bad during that time, then I could possibly swing it.

Sounds like we have a decent size group of people, and more are certainly welcome to join. All we need is the time and place. Some are saying week of Thanksgiving at Nathan's in Coney Island. If anyone wants to meet sooner or later, speak up now, or forever hold your piece, er.. peas.. uh... you know.

Okay, it seems that I have been elected as the Offical NYC DIS Meet Organizer-Type Person-Thingy. Being that as such, I have formulated the following plan:

Tentative date: Friday, November 25th; the day after Thanksgiving.
Possible place to start: The World of Disney store on 5th Ave. (provided that they are not so crowded)

I don't know what my plans are for this event, but I won't feel too bad if it won't work out. We can still meet at the store, check out what they have, and just take the day from there.

If you are able to meet at this day, please PM me with what time you would like to meet, or you may suggest an alternate day. Please keep in mind that I do volunteer work on Saturdays, and this date I suggested was the only time I could think of where we would all be able to get off.

That is, if you're able to do it October 25th which is on a Tuesday?

Does any of this make sense? I don't know as I'm rushing this post. I'm sure you'll be able to understand.

EDITED UPDATE: I've decided to impose an age cap on this meet. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Said parent/guardian must take responsibility for their accompanied guest at all times.

I wish I could make it to this meet -- I'm in Boston, a bit too far to hop over for the afternoon.

But I couldn't resist jumping in to mention (in case there's anybody here who doesn't know) that the World of Disney store on 5th Ave is one of the only Disney stores left (outside of Disney property) that has pin trading! Next time I'm in NYC I'm bringing my lanyard.

We will not be able to make it on the 25th. We will be on a plane that day heading back to FL! I also doubt that with our whirlwind schedule we would be able to make a meet outside of Brooklyn because we will be driving and do not plan to drive into Manhattan. Most of our trip north will be in CT, we will only be in NY arriving sometime during the evening on the 16th and leaving on the 18th.

I think the only plan that would work for us would be Coney Island on the 17th or 18th, probably the 18th would be best. That way we could say "good-bye" to MIL, stop off for a meet, then head on to CT.

My other possibility would be early afternoon on the 17th - we could probably escape from MIL's house for a few hrs before the rest of the family gets off work that day and heads over. We usually try to get a walk in on the Boardwalk around that time anyway so I don't think MIL would feel too abandoned if we took off for a while.

BTW, regarding the Nov 25th date - you do know that the day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest day in the retail year, right? I am sure that all of Manhattan will be packed, not just TDS!

BuddyGenie ---- November 25th is BLACK FRIDAY....the busiest retail day of the year. I should know, I shop it every year. I must be crazy. If any date is set for a weekend I can make it. I work full time during the week and getting to NYC or even Brooklyn would be hard from the Island. Keep us posted.

The problem I have with Nov. 17th or 18th is that it's on days when I work. Don't get off until 4, and it would take a bit of work to get to Coney Island from Williamsburg.

It also appears that the Friday after Thanksgiving would also cause a problem for some people as well. Should we postpone the meet until a better date can be reached then?
