If I open the hive I have a veil on as well as pants and a shirt, even shoes though I live in KY! With gentle bees you don't have to wear all that, but all it takes is a bee sting on your nose once and you decide a veil is nice.

It hurts on the eye as well. LAST night was the first time I had a "veil failure", and hopefully the LAST. I look like without the cool hat this AM.
