Dinosaur with a 4.5 yr old???

Good thing I read this. We have a fastpass for Dino for our 9 and 5 yr olds. Other threads suggested space mt, Everest, test track, tower of terror all would be ok (well EE height restrictions prevent our 5 yo).

How do you all rate these for little kids as being the worst to the least problematic?

Really depends on each kid.... My guys (4 and 7) both LOVED test track. Can't imagine that being a problem. Older one (not super brave, not super timid) likes Space Mt, just remember it's single file seats... If that might freak them out. He absolutely despised Tower of Terror and Everest... But more because of the darkness, and creepiness factor than the ride itself. He wouldn't even try Dinosaur. The 4 yr old did, but he's of the "so what? I'll close my eyes if I'm scared" variety.

I was wondering the same thing for my 4 year old daredevil.. she loves big rides... loves scary thing
I am more worried about her being only 30 pounds (shes a bean pole) and he little body being jolted around by the "off-roading" vehicl, she has done the mine cart just fine though

I told GMA about maybe taking her on TOT with me, and GMA got kinda mad lol

I had heard/read that Dinosaur is the worst, generally speaking, which is why I asked for thoughts on it. I think the rest are doable based on your own kids. My next biggest worry is ToT (but my son can't do space Mtn so that might be up there, too, if he could). My son has done the county fair roller coasters so I think he'll be ok with the Disney ones.

Dinosaur is so scary!! Lol. I'm always shocked when I see little kids who can handle it. It's very intense even for me as an adult.

We had not planned for our 5 yo on Space Mt., mainly due to the darkness and single rider format. We did get a FP+ for ToT, although I'm not sure on that. The only good part is ToT is pretty short. We are debating EE for our 9 yo.

My 4yo rode it without any problems in April and then again in December. I think it scared him a bit, but he wasn't terrified and didn't have bad memories since he rode it again 8 months after the first time. He had turned 4 in January. Just depends on the kid. He also rode Splash, Test Track and ToT (and the easier BTMRR and 7DMT) with no problems. Again, I know he was scared on ToT, but he rode it on each trip!

My DD's favorite ride at 4 was ToT and that got beat out when she was tall enough for EE at 5. She's been on every ride except RnRC and primeval whirl because she's too short. She loves thrill rides and doesn't let the dark or scary rides bother her even though she's pretty timid in everyday life;) However, she hates Dinosaur. She went on it last Aug at 5 and came off saying never again. We were there last month for her 6th birthday and I figured I'd take her on something else while DD13 and DH rode, but she wanted to try again. Big mistake- she was still terrified.

My son is afraid of most things (thought he's been going to Disney so long that he's okay there). When he was 6 we ended up in AK on a super hot day and he got totally overheated first thing in the morning. I needed to get him in air conditioning asap (and the restaurantasarus wasn't open yet). We got in line for dinosaur thinking that we would wait inside for awhile but use the chicken exit. He decided not to chicken out (much to my surprise) and LOVED it and wanted to go on it again!!

Like someone above said. I look more terrified in the pictures then he does!!

So I don't know if I would FP it but maybe don't discount it entirely.

You can probably find a Point of view (POV) video on YouTube which would show what the ride looks like. I've shown my DD rides prior to trips so she can decide whether or not it's too scary for her. As for Dinosaur -- we tried it when she was 4.5 - she had me put my arm around her and let her pull my hand over her eyes if she got scared...she rode the whole thing with my hand over her eyes! She's almost 8 now and still is afraid of it.

How bad is EE?

Depends what you mean by bad? Motion sick, or scary factor? There's some darkness and a yeti shadow on the wall - kinda freaked my son (age 7) out, but he doesn't love the dark. You go backwards, and maybe upwards (?) through the dark and it's pretty disorienting, for me anyway. The drops aren't that big or scary though.

I wouldn't bring a young child onto Dinosaur. I first rode it at age 29 and I was scared! My kids didn't like it. Its very jerky and dark. Dinosaurs pop out at you.

No.....
Loud dark Dino attackimg, bumpy....jump scares.

Sound like a good time to most 4 YOD? :)

All these could be problems.....

TT is ok.

The rest are scary or fast dark and drops......my kids did like these until 9 and 11.....

My almost 4 year old rode it last year - I kept my hand with him and he held tight to my arm - he was scared but in a fun way, not petrified. He definitely enjoyed it, but didn't request to go on it again...

Has anyone done this? How did they do?

I'm worried it's too scary. And I don't have much background to go on. The last time he went to WDW, he was 9.5 months old so, of course, didn't ride it. We've gone to the fair every year but he's never done any ride that's comparable. It won't be on our first day (4th day in the parks) so I would have some time to judge his reactions to other MK, DHS, and Epcot attractions but if we plan to do it, I would probably FP it. Leaning toward skipping it and using the FP for something else we can all do together (I've read that it worth it for Nemo).

Seeing Dinosaur is a running joke in our house. I took DD5 and DD6 last year and they were terrified. They hated every second of it. Their heads were in my lap the whole time. They were quite put out that I had done that to them (I honestly didn't remember it from when DH and I went in 98). So now we can joke about it - I ask them if that's the one FP they definitely want, to howls of protest. But now the younger DD says she wants to see it this year 'because she didn't get to see it last year.' Yes, dear, because you were terrified! :duck:

Haven't read all the responses but my answer for this is the same to all of these questions. Will be scary for some and not for others and you have to know your child. Watch it on YouTube with the child and see what he thinks. It's definitely loud and very bumpy with some big turns and sudden acceleration and deaceleration. My twins went on it at 4. One was scared but was perfectly fine afterwards - just said he didn't want to do it again (but did it last year at 6 and liked it). The other was mostly blase about it - found the whole thing loud and kinda silly.

It could definitely go either way with him. I just don't have many experiences with him to compare it to.

guess I have the odd ball for one of my grandsons. at 4 years old this was his second favorite ride of the trip had to do it twice. his favorite ride of the trip was Tower of Terror. but that a side yes it can scare young kids
I'm right there with you....my DS was a little older 6ish at the time, but he LOVED it. We rode it multiple times, and it's his FAVORITE! That being said, he was fully aware of what was happening and was going to happen on the ride. (full play by play from his older sister...so he was "mentally ready")
