Dinning Plan Price Increase Question

It was recently announced that in the France Pavillion in Epcot, raised prices of their ice cream -
  • Single Scoop changed from $5.75 to $7.95
  • Double Scoop changed from $7.95 to $9.95
This is a pretty sizable jump in price.

Also, the revenue in the parks were recently announced to be flat, and Disney expects this to be the case for the next couple quarters (at least).

Makes me think with all that said that there will be a price increase coming soon for the Dinning Plan. We haven't decided yet to purchase it, but I don't want to miss out on the current pricing and have it increased out of the blue on us.

Does Disney ever announce ahead of time when the dinning plan prices will increase? Or is it when you wake up one morning, prices have changed and no warning.
Also, is there any sort of pattern or idea when a price increase may happen?

Thank you,

Some vloggers are predicting a rate increase for the dining plan. Think one is Thomas B. @ DisneyTourist Blog.

When during the year do they generally raise the price? Or does it just start at a higher price come January 1st?

I don’t know any answers to your question. Sorry.

But if you’re on the fence about purchasing it, I would just do it now. You can always cancel it before 30 days if you’ve booked a package.

Dining plan has never been about saving money, lots of older threads on that. Some people like to pre-pay for food so they know that is the max they will spend. Others want more of an 'all inclusive' vacation but obviously hard to quantify that value in $$$. Disney likes the dining plan since it means you are less likely to eat off-site somewhere when you have already paid them ahead of time to eat on the property.

I doubt they would announce price increases ahead of time since from a marketing perspective that wouldn't accomplish anything and would let their competitors (like Universal) know of what is planned for the future and react accordingly.

Yeah the dining plan isn't a great value. It's hard to get your money back out of it. Increasing the price of it wouldn't make sense to me, but if people just keep buying the plan anyway maybe the math says for them to increase it. But I would think it would make more sense to slightly increase the price of everything else, to make the dining plan look like a better value and push more people to but it, locking their dollars into Disney's system.

Whether a dining plan is worthwhile is really dependent on how you eat and your room occupants’ ages.

More Disney aged children than adults in your party? Good chance the dining plan is a good value.
Prefer to eat “Signature” dinners? Might not be a worthy idea.

Do the math and think how your party eats to make a decision that fits your lifestyle.
