Sunday 3/27/22
We spent the day with Mike and Donna at Hollywood Studios
We went to the Grand Floridian before our dinner reservation (Citricos) and went to the Enchanted Rose Lounge for cocktails first.
I had the B&B: Freshly brewed twining of London Iced Tea with Lemon, Blueberry, and Basil (Non alcoholic). This was refreshing
Donna had the Garden Spritzer: Seedlip Garden 108 Herbal Distilled Non-alcoholic spirit, lime, agave, and soda (Non alcoholic). She liked this a lot and said it tasted like a Gin & tonic.
Michael had Sunny Margarita: Patron Silver Tequila, Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge, juices of orange and lime, and agave. He liked his margarita
Scott had a Martini (no surprise there).
I didn’t get any good pictures of the drinks here, but it was nice to have a chance to chat, recap our day so far, and discuss evening plans (hopping to Epcot after dinner).
We had dinner at Citricos.
We started with drinks. Donna was very impressed at the various non-alcoholic options to try. Sometimes you want something other than soda or water, but aren’t in the mood for alcohol.
I had the Paradise Punch: Melted sugar, Caribbean spices, strawberry, vanilla bean, orgeat (almond), cranberry and citrus (non alcoholic). This was good, a bit heavier than some of the drinks. It had an interesting flavor that I couldn’t really place (probably the Caribbean spices). I enjoyed it but not sure I’d get it again.
Donna had the London Dry Juniper Seltzer: Authentic Cinchona Bark and smoked rosemary blended with citrus, lemongrass and juniper aromatics (Non alcoholic). She loved this and said it was fantastic, probably the best non-alcoholic cocktail she’s ever had.
Scott and Michael both had martini’s.
Their bread is nice and crispy outside and soft inside.
For appetizers. Scott and I shared the Smoked Duck Breast: Fresh Tagliatelle Pasta, celeriac purée, duck confit. We told Mike and Donna how good this is so they shared one also; they agreed with our raving and also thought it was great. Just one picture since it looks the same.
We also shared the Berkshire Pork Belly: Boniato and Plaintain Croquette, Salsa Verde, Jicima. This was good too, but not as good as the duck.
For our entrees Donna and I ordered the same thing. Butter poached Florida Mahi Mahi: Mashed Fingerling potatoes, grilled asparagus, local mushrooms, grapefruit beurre blanc. In September when we were here they made this dish with Cobia and I loved it. The waiter explained they use sustainable fish and Cobia wasn’t the right fish to get right now so they are making it with Mahi Mahi. I told Donna how much I loved this dish in September (when it had Cobia) so assumed the Mahi Mahi would be just as good. She trusted my opinion and went with it too. It was just as good; we both enjoyed it. Only 1 picture since it looks the same.
Scott had the Guava barbecued short ribs: Aged cheddar creamy grits, roasted poblano, Curtido slaw, Brussel sprouts. He said it was OK but thought the fish dishes he’s had here before were stronger.
Mike had the Domestic Golden Tilefish: Jupiter rice chorizo “risotto”, key west pink shrimp, confit tomatoes. Scott suggested this one to him since he really enjoyed it last trip so Mike took the suggestion and agreed it was a great dish.
For dessert Scott and I shared the Apple Rose: Served Warm with seasonal apples, marzipan, raspberry jam, frozen coconut milk. This was a beautiful presentation and tasted good too. But probably not the best of the different desserts we’ve had here.
Mike and Donna shared the Blackberry Tartelette: Lemon Bavarian and blackberry mousse enrolled in glacage with violet syrup. We recommended this dessert to them and they loved it. It’s a nice light dessert.
They brought us a plate of chocolate truffles after dessert too. This is always a nice way to end a meal. And we were just talking about truffles before they brought it over.
We all really enjoyed Citricos. The food is great and most of the dishes aren’t overly heavy (depending what you order).
We headed over to Epcot after dinner.
