Diet? What Diet? 8 nights on the DxDP with pics!...Complete! Narcoosee's, 8/7

Congratulations, how romantic - Awesome review!!

congratulations on the engagement - loving your reviews - and a disney wedding in the bag too

Mmmmm! Those potstickers were one of my favorite things on one of my last trips! For a dinner appetizer I believe they gave you six instead of 4... I still ended up eating all of them and could have eaten another serving...SO GOOD! And mmm...that banana chocolate creme brulee was fabulous too. Ohhh now my mouth is watering and I can't wait for my bday dinner there!

I would have loved to have 6...or 20! :lmao: Have a great birthday dinner!

Congrats on the engagement! You wrote about it so calmly haha-- I'd be so frantic!
Subscribing-- can't wait to read the rest!

Thanks! Well I kinda of had a feeling, but I lost it when I saw the slipper, and it was nerve wracking with all those people watching! Thanks for following along. :)

Great Report
Congratulations on your engagement, how romantic!!

Thanks so much! Yeah DF is pretty sweet, guess I'll keep him. ;)

Wow! Kona looks delicious!!!!!!!!!!

Mmmmm, that coconut tart looks so good, and the Brulee, but i really want the Kona Kone and I know DF will get the cheesecake. Do you think I could have 3 desserts as opposed to 3 regular courses?! :lmao:

Go for it! They were sooooo good. I seriously considered trying to buy like 5 of those coconut tarts, I'm trying to figure out a way to get them at my wedding somehow, maybe for a dessert party?

Congratulations, how romantic - Awesome review!!

Thanks so much! It really was perfect.:goodvibes

Thanks! I know, I'm super excited. Just called Disney today and we are "penciled in". :goodvibes

So after our lunch at Kona we walked around the Poly a little and took the pathway back to the GF since I wanted to check out the Wedding Pavillion. What a scenic walk, it was so pretty and I barely minded the crazy hot weather.

When we got back to the GF we went in the pool for a bit and had a snack. They were sugar free gummies and were surprisingly good and gotta love that they are Mickey shaped!

Dinner tonight was at Jiko, we stayed at AKL last time and LOVED Jiko, so we were really looking forward to it. We got to the AKL and checked out the gift shop quickly. I think it's a good look for me.
IMG_0407.jpg

We checked in and had to wait a few minutes for a table. When they called us we were seated in the Wine Room. It was nice and private, I had kind of thought the room would have been a little bigger, but it was nice and cozy for a dinner.

For starters we both got the Duck Confit Salad - with poached pear, dabo croutons, mustard-shallot vinaigrette, goat cheese. So DF went from never eating duck before to eating it twice in the same day! The salad was delicious! I had something similar last year only I think with a berry dressing. I really liked the pears and goat cheese and they were not scrimping on the duck on this salad, there was a lot of duck! DF actually really liked it too.
IMG_0409.jpg

There is only one entree we can ever get here since we think it is the most delicious thing on the planet...yup the Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon - with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce. Wow, this is still just fantastic. The steak is so tender and the red wine sauce is not too overpowering. The macaroni and cheese is awesome and milder in taste than regular mac-n-cheese. And surprisingly it all goes really well together. My only complaint is that on my plate they were a little stingy with the Mac-n-cheese, luckily DF had more and shared his. :lovestruc
IMG_0410.jpg

Now I find dessert here kind of a miss, and it was the same tonight. DF didn't want anything so I ordered:

Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake - With chocolate ganache, amarula sauce, and lavender ice cream. I really liked the lavender ice cream (I ate all of that) but I didn't care for the cake. It was just kind of blah, and it was served too cold. At least it looked pretty.
IMG_0412.jpg

I don't know the name of the other thing, it was some type of pear wrapped in phyllo dough. This was pretty good and I liked it better than the chocolate cheesecake, but it was noting to write home about.
IMG_0411.jpg

Afterwards we went to look at the animals but it was already dark out so we couldn't see much and it made me remember how much I love the AKL too. We tried to find Baby Kidani, well I guess he's not a baby anymore, but he was when we went last year. I'm pretty sure he's still on the Sunset Savannah but DF kept trying to convince me that he was part of the group on Arusha. Here's what he used to look like.
Disney2008033-1.jpg

Still loved that filet at Jiko! Next time I would make an earlier reservation or get there earlier so we could see the animals more. It's really a great resort. I know some people might be scared off by the food at Jiko but it's really good and the Filet is not too out there at all for picky eaters. We'll definitely be back, just wish they would offer those coconut tarts!

Yum, I love Jiko and the duck salad looks really good. I tried the chocolate cheesecake last year, it was good but a very heavy dessert.

Jiko looks delicious! I'll get there one day :) I just have to go to Disney without a herd of picky eaters!

Jiko is awesome! The salad is great, but you really need to like duck because there was a lot of it! I think more duck = more better so I was in heaven! I think the cheesecake was just too cold and that really threw me off. That ice cream though was delish!

You have to go! DF is very picky too and we were nervous about eating there when we went last year, but seriously the filet is very 'normal' food, no crazy spices or anything. I think picky eaters would also be safe with the salads and flatbreads.

I have always wanted to go to a Princess breakfast but wasn't sure if it would be too silly if it was just two adults. But this was the year I decided to do it! :thumbsup2

Our ADR was for 10:20 am. We slept in and got to Epcot at around 10, DF went to get us a Soarin' FP while I went to check in.
IMG_0436.jpg

This process is really disorganized. You wait on line to go up to the podium, they will note that you are there and tell you to wait for your name to be called. Then you just mill around the Norway Pavillion and a CM will come out and shout the names. The first lady they had doing this was not very loud, so it was almost impossible to hear her and it led to a lot of confusion. :confused3

Here's where I was waiting:
IMG_0435.jpg

DF arrived with the FP's and it was so hot and everything was really confusing so I have to say starting out I did not have a very good opinion of PSB. Eventually they did get a louder CM to call the names and we were called soon after that. We took our pic with Belle, she was very sweet and congratulated us, and then we were seated in the little room on the left. This room looked more like a little cottage than a Castle, but it was cute. Our server took our drink order and told us about the cold buffet.

Here's what I got, I have to say I got a little carried away! All of this stuff was pretty much just okay. The fruit was ripe and tasty, but the pastries were nothing spectacular. I did enjoy the jam danish and the scone. DF liked the cinnamon rolls.
IMG_0441.jpg

When we got back to our seat our hot food had arrived. There were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and potato casserole. I'm not a huge fan of scrambled eggs, so I only had a little of that. The bacon and sausage were very tasty and the same you get throughout Disney. I really liked the sausage links but those potatoes  I could have eaten a whole plate of those! They were just cheesy and perfect! You can get more of the hot food if you want, but we decided not to, although we did consider asking for more sausage and potatoes.
IMG_0442.jpg

Now even though we weren't in the most interesting looking room, we were in a great location because we were right by the door where the princesses come out. We were like the fourth table. So we were able to see them all pretty quickly and get out of there to go on some rides! :thumbsup2

First up was Sleeping Beauty. She is my favorite, when I was little I used to pretend I was Princess Aurora. She was so sweet, and congratulated us and asked us if everything was just a "Dream come true" so far.
IMG_0443.jpg

Next we had Cinderella...hmmm thought she was hosting a breakfast somewhere else :rolleyes1. She congratulated us and asked about our engagement. I told her it had happened at her Castle last Saturday, she even looked a little embarrassed for not "remembering". DF took a picture with her, and it was so cute, she asked if it was okay if she took his arm.

Snow White came out next...she was the funniest. She congratulated us and asked to see my ring and then said: "Oooh, looks like someone went to the Diamond Mine!"
IMG_0445.jpg

Last we had Ariel (with legs!). Sorry DF, no Jasmine for you :lmao:, although we had caught a glimpse of her earlier that week. Ariel was very sweet too and insisted on getting a picture with each of us, which I really liked.
IMG_0446.jpg

Afterwards a CM came over to ensure we had met with each of the princesses.

So I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised by this one, I hadn't been expecting much, but the food was pretty good and it was nice having it brought to the table. The Princesses were all really sweet. They only spent a few minutes with us but we really felt like we interacted with all of them, so I would say for adults that want to go to this, go for it! Even DF had a good time, and I think initially he was just agreed to go to make me happy, although I'm sure he might have had a better time if Jasmine had been there! Lol, I had told him that I would take his picture with her so he could show it off to all his friends! :rotfl2:

I am also proud to say that I went to WW today and am down 3.6 lbs, so I have officially lost the Disney weight and even a little more. :goodvibes

And I've realized the dark side of dining reports. We went to dinner tonight at a French restaurant in our neighborhood and it felt really weird to not take a picture of my food before eating it! :lmao:

Congratulations again.....

Your reviews are great and so are the pictures. What a exciting thing to happen while a WDW!! Keep up the great reviews

Thanks for the update...enjoying the rest of your reviews. My husband and I love Jiko in our last trip that we ate there 2x (and had it for room service for the a third time during one trip). They had the best Barbecue Beef Short Ribs.

Thanks for following along! I've been doing a lot with the wedding planning and it's been crazy busy at work, so I've been slacking a little on the reviews. Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! Things have been so hectic I lost my motivation a little, but you guys helped me get it back! :goodvibes

So onto the food!

I had planned on a pretty late lunch at Chefs because I didn't think we would be hungry after such a big breakfast and I was right. But I didn't count on the crazy hot temperatures and after a few hours and some FP return time frustration, we decided to try to have an earlier lunch and go back to the resort.

We checked in and were asked to wait a few minutes and they took us to our table.

We were in the solarium room, we were in the middle but could see clearly out the window and was able to watch the Server Amusesant (excuse the spelling) show. That was pretty cool, how does he stack those chairs so high and never fall?

Our server was Jeremy, he was okay, not the friendliest, but I think that is just his demeanor, he was always quick to refill our drinks or see if we needed anything.

I got the flatbread a la Flamme Alsacienne - Alsace specialty - creme fraiche, onion and bacon. Wow this was good! The crust was thin and crispy, but not like the normal pizza crust, the creme fraiche was nice and creamy and loved the onions and bacon. This was light and savory and just perfect. It was also huge! It could have easily been my main course and I wish it had been!
IMG_0456.jpg

DF had the French Onion soup. He was not very impressed with this. We have an awesome french restaurant in our town and he said that it didn't compare to theirs. And somehow I don't have a picture of it either.

For our main courses I got the Croque monsieur et sa salade verte - the classic French toasted ham and cheese sandwich served with a green salad. I really wanted to like this, and in some ways it was okay, but the bread was too hard to eat. I liked how there was cheese melted on top. The salad was good, and I was really full from my flatbread so it didn't really bother me.
IMG_0458.jpg

DF got the chicken dish. The potatoes it was served with were really good. He thought the chicken was okay, but kind of plain.
IMG_0457.jpg

Now we had to have dessert!

I decided to have the Profiteroles au chocolat - Puff choux with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Once again, eh, the ice cream was very good but the puff pastry was hard. The chocolate sauce was good, but how can melted chocolate be bad? Once again the french place back home won, they have awesome profiteroles, so these didn't compare.
0619091419.jpg

DF had the sorbets, he was allowed to pick three so he got raspberry, mango and vanilla. I suspect the vanilla wasn't really sorbet but ice cream. He liked all three, and I got to eat the cookie which was pretty tasty.

but even though the food was just okay, there was one highlight that just made our meal. That's right Remi! The server wheels him through the whole restaurant and stops so each table gets a good view. The server was so funny too! There were three older ladies in mouse ears at the table next to us and he asked if they were related to Remi and if they were sure because they have ears like his relatives!

Whenever anyone would ask to take a picture, he would say: Of course, and place the silver dome back over Remi
0619091411.jpg

Then when people would say they wanted a picture of Remi, he would get all insulted and shocked. "WHAT?? You want to take a picture with a RAT? :lmao:

Here's what Remi looked like, sorry for the bad quality pics, my camera battery had died and I had to use my cell phone.
0619091411a.jpg

It is really cool how they do this because Remi will move and make noise and DF even swore that he heard Remi say "Just Engaged", I didn't hear it though.

Overall, the food was okay, next time I would just get the flatbread as a main course and pay out of pocket. The inside is very pleasant and the food wasn't bad. It was definitely worth it to see Remi if you are a big Ratatouille fan like we are. :)

Great reviews. As another Long Islander, I want to know where is the awesome french resaurant?

Thanks for following along.

Cool! It's called Brasserie Cassis, it's on South Oyster Bay road in Plainview in the Plainview shopping center. They are open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We've only gone for dinner but everything we have gotten has been amazing. There's even some nice outdoor seating which I prefer because the main dining room can get a little loud.

We went last weekend and for dessert I got petite madelines, I just thought it would be a few cookies. Then it seemed to take a really long time, turned out they were miniature madelines fresh from the oven (they were hot when I got them) with caramel dipping sauce and a creme dipping sauce. Yum!
