Did you save any of your favorite toys from your childhood?

And if so, what?

I saved my two favorite board games: "Candyland" and "Go To The Head Of The Class" - and a Ginny doll that my birth mother gave me when I was around 7 or so (even though I didn't know she was my birth mother at the time..)

Great thread C. Ann! I have my original Barbie from 1960 and my original Thumbelina doll from when i was 4 years old. My parents have pictures of me holding her at my sisters wedding (sister is 16 years older than me!) Have all my Happy hollister, Nancy Drew, and Winnie the pooh books too!

Sigh.....oh C. Ann, this is such a sore subject for me.

I was an aunt at 7 years old. When my niece was 2 she would come over and play with my dolls. I was 9 at that point and when she would want to bring my toys home I knew better than get into it with a 2 year old. Plus, I didn't want to look like a baby by hanging on to my dolls - even though I was still really into them. Therefore, she ended up at some point taking home my absolute favorite baby doll - Jay Jay.

I also was president of the Barbie Fan Club in my neighborhood. I had a whole entire suitcase full of Barbie dolls. Dolls, that I might add, would be worth a lot of money today and I used to take really good care of them too. As I outgrew them the suitcase was stored in our cellar and one day my father decided to clean the cellar out and, of course, being the man that he was, he through the whole thing away.

Unfortunately, I didn't save any toys (though I wish I had saved some of my Breyer horses) but I did save all of my favorite books. I dreamed of sharing them with my DD some day.

Who would've thought that me (massive bookworm) would have a kid who hates to read?

Oh - and she doesn't like horses either. :confused3

I didn't save any, but I was at a garage sale and it was the holy grail of old toys. I bought this

I have the doll my parents got me for my first birthday in 1957. I had her restored at a doll hospital about 10 years ago and she is now displayed in my home.

That is Mrs Beasley from Family Affair that is the only doll I saved my childhood. She is in bad shape because I let my neices play with her. We lost her glasses, they broke the string so she doesn't talk anymore and someone bite one of the tips of a finger off.:sad2: She was the last doll I ever got.

Oh!! Mrs. Beasley!!! I'd forgotten about her!!!

Now I am totally wishing I kept my childhood toys.

The Clock was a toy my Grandparents had at their house-one of the few-so we played with that a lot!! I LOVED my Mrs. Beasley doll. I have a picture of me getting it for a birthday present when I was 3 or 4.

We don't have anything from when we were younger. My mom had all this stuff saved in our attic and decided not to pack any of it when we moved--including our baby books, baptismal gowns, etc. :sad1:

My oldest DD had Mrs. Beasley and one day it just up and disappeared.. As a matter of fact, it happened here at the lake.. I swear someone kidnapped her..

Still to this day I'm upset about that because I wanted to pass it down to my youngest DD..

Forgot to mention, I also saved many of my books from my childhood.. I was (and am) a real bookworm..;)

My parents saved so many things and now my DD loves to go to their house and play with all my old toys...She-ra and all her friends and the castle, Barbies (barbie and the rockers), Rose Petal place, 80s cabbage patch dolls, Cherry Merry Muffin, strawberry shortcake, just to name a few...:goodvibes

I have one toy from my childhood. The others were left behind/thrown out after my Mom moved. It is my beloved(and slightly raggedy) Cheer Bear.

We were really poor, and the things that I've saved meant a lot to me!!!

When I was 8 years old (in the early '70s), I got the Fisher Price Castle for Christmas. It was AWESOME! It had a trap door that led to a dungeon, a secret moving staircase, a dragon, etc. I took it to my Kindergarten classroom when I got my first teaching job in 1987 and it's been with me ever since!!

I also saved a no-name Barbie van that my daughters still play with! I'm sure that it came from Woolworths back in the early '70s. It's red and white with stickers all over it (like peace signs and flowers - lol!).

And I also have two precious Pelham Marionettes. My mom and I don't even remember who gave them to me, but they would have been way out of her budget, so they must have been from my father or another distant relative.

I wonder what my DDs will save?

I have all my Barbies, my baby dolls, Monopoly game, and lots of books.
DD played with them all and read all the books and they are packed away for the next generation along with more toys that my kids have saved.

Okay this will confirm I have issues with letting go....

I have all my original Fisher Price Houses, all the people, and furniture. I also have the zoo and airport. I have the orginal Sesame Street tree house, and wooden Sesame Street characters including Mr. Hooper. I have numerous boardgames and barbie dolls (except I thought I was a dr and a hairdresser back then, so they are pretty rough). Also have Strawberry Shortcake mini's that still have there smell...

But alas my prized possession was thrown out...

I loved, absolutely loved my Flip Wilson/Geraldine doll. You would flip it over and the clothes would change and you could pull the string and it would talk. My little sister was afraid of it. At night, I would put in bed with her... Then when she was in the cellar I would turn all the lights off on her, pull the string and throw it down the stairs.....

Now that I write it out, that might be the reason we were never very close:confused3;).

Ya think? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I had such drama with my Drowsey doll. My neighbors also had the same doll and we were playing with them one day. Somehow one of the sisters took mine home with her. I could not find mine anywhere in my house. When I was over their house one day I saw my Drowsey. I knew it was mine because it had a pocket in the back and theirs didn't. I said I believed it was mine and they said no it wasn't. Several months later they ended up moving and had a garage sale. They put up my Drowsey doll for sale and another neighbor girl ended up buying it. I did not realize this until later and I offered to pay the girl for the doll and she said no, she wanted it. I was so hurt. That was my first doll and meant a lot to me. :sad1: Thinking back on it I cannot believe how these girls were. The girl who bought my Drowsey trashed the poor thing. I ended up buying one on ebay many years later, but it just wasn't the same. I mean, it shouldn't tick me off when I think about it because I am sure if I never lost the doll it would just be in a box at my mom's house now.

The only thing I have in my home is my Lundby Doll House.

I think it cost me more to ship it here from my mom's house than the house actually cost lol.

I still have all my Strawberry Shortcake dolls, in the strawberry-shaped carrying case. I also have all of my Smurfs. I think that's all, but I wish I'd kept my Holly Hobby EasyBake Oven. I LOVED that thing!
