Did you save any of your favorite toys from your childhood?

I have my Pebbles doll (flintstones from Ideal) and My Baby First Step (Mattel). Pebbles I got when I was one..so she is really in bad shape. She is very loved. I will have to look into seeing if she can be "helped".

I also have one of the first versions of Monopoly (not from my childhood..but a neighbor was trashing it years ago, and they let me have it).

That's awesome!! :thumbsup2 Wish I'd bought one of those for my kids and kept it myself..:goodvibes

Oh I LOVE reading this thread and seeing all the pics. I remember all of these. I have a Mrs Beasley and a Drowsey as well as a Pebbles Doll in my attic along with many other dolls and books. My Mom saved all of our dolls and gave them to us when we moved into our own homes.

When I was in First grade I asked my nun if I could bring Pebbles into school. She said yes. When I arrived the next day she asked why I had my doll with me and that I wasn't allowed to have it. I remember telling her that she gave me permission when I asked if I could bring Pebble to school. Needless to say my doll had to remain in the coat closet that day.

My joy in all these toys is probably the reason I'm a pre-school teacher today.

I don't have anything that I can think of here at my house. I'm sure my mom has a few things, though. Oh, one thing I know she has is my old 2XL robot trivia game thing. Picture:

I have a wooden canopy doll bed that I also used for Barbie. My grandaughter is playing with it now!

I have all my Nancy Drew books & a Piggy Bank my aunt gave me.

Unfortunately, I didn't save any toys (though I wish I had saved some of my Breyer horses) but I did save all of my favorite books. I dreamed of sharing them with my DD some day.

Who would've thought that me (massive bookworm) would have a kid who hates to read?

Oh - and she doesn't like horses either. :confused3

I didn't save many of my childhood toys, but did keep all of my Breyer horses. :) I really loved them. When I had a daughter of my own, I bought her Breyer horses and let her play with mine, but she never really cared anything about horses. :confused3 Now I am saving hers and my Breyer horses for when I have a grandchild. I just know that child will be like me and LOVE horses! :goodvibes

I have a no name baby from my first birthday, and still have all of my childhood horse books, which were my favorites. I'm sure there are a few more but they are packed up and I can't remember what all toys I have saved.

Oh, this thread just goes right to my heart. I collect vintage toys, mainly Fisher-Price ones. Like others said here, I had many prized toys from childhood - my Fisher-Price Little People, my Fisher-Price Adventure People, weebles, Treetots, legos and the like. We loved the toys, and played and played with them all through childhood. :)

When college loomed ahead, I saw the writing on the wall and knew my parents couldn't wait to chuck it all. :( So I hid some of my toys in the back rafters of the attic (where I knew my parents would be unlikely to ever look) - mainly the smaller ones. And I was right - the second my younger sister went to college, everything was thrown away or donated to a big local biannual rummage sale. Just about everything was gone (except the ones I hid). :sad1:

In my mid 20's, I finally was able to rescue my remaining toys from the attic and fortunately they survived. :) I decided to start collecting them - it was fun going to garage sales and rummage sales, and later getting them on Ebay. Fast forwards to today, I now happily collect toys and my nieces and nephew have played with them for years. I now have many of the Fisher-Price sets I always wanted. I am a proud member of the Fisher-Price Collectors Club even (yes, such a group does exist!). :teeth: I know I never really got over my parents throwing out everything - yeah, I have issues!

I didn't save any, but I was at a garage sale and it was the holy grail of old toys. I bought this

and this

Now if I could just find

drowsybaby.jpg

I have those, too!!! I got 4 teaching clocks. I have my original Drowsey around here somewhere, but she is pretty banged up - we loved playing with her. :)

We were really poor, and the things that I've saved meant a lot to me!!!

When I was 8 years old (in the early '70s), I got the Fisher Price Castle for Christmas. It was AWESOME! It had a trap door that led to a dungeon, a secret moving staircase, a dragon, etc. I took it to my Kindergarten classroom when I got my first teaching job in 1987 and it's been with me ever since!!

Me too!! I have 4 castles (only 2 in the photo), just in case something happens to one or two of them - it's good to have backup!

Okay this will confirm I have issues with letting go....

I have all my original Fisher Price Houses, all the people, and furniture. I also have the zoo and airport. I have the orginal Sesame Street tree house, and wooden Sesame Street characters including Mr. Hooper. I have numerous boardgames and barbie dolls (except I thought I was a dr and a hairdresser back then, so they are pretty rough). Also have Strawberry Shortcake mini's that still have there smell...

Me too!! I have the houses (4 brown Tudor ones, 3 yellow/blue ones), and probably close to 1000 Little People figures. I have 2 zoos and 5 airports (no I am not kidding lol). I have some Sesame Street sets (clubhouse and Brownstone) but sadly still missing many of the figures. I have shelves where I make displays, and make the toys easier for the kids to reach. Here's the current display:

Another nice piece of irony is that I now volunteer at the very same rummage sale where my parents gave away all my toys, and now I buy all the vintage Fisher-Price toys that come in!! :teeth:

Yeah, I love my Fisher-Price toys! :)

I still have a bunch of My Little Ponies somewhere at my parent's house, as well as a bunch of Care Bears stuff.

yes...you should know...how much....this topic :stir:....

....the feelings......toys have given .....me thru the years.

that's because.....i've been bounced in life, quite frequently,

& the pixiedust:pixiedust:.....that followed, s/p the fall out.

..lil'people & their villages, but along..the way..they "made"....a few

...that we gave to our kids. [ one set, was the flintstone's....that we
still have ]* in reality, our house has toys all over the place.] & my
wife's sister....who has no children...is an "artist"...making some
of the most unique....teddy bears...you ever saw..& now she making
these "new" kinds of dolls....that one has to see to understand....
how..cool they are! while another friend has been making...vintage
one~of a kind...holidays-dolls creations...that are being massed
produced. { her "early"..works....have one retailer...flying in from
california...to grabbed up everything-everyone she makes. why?
they sell out right after the thanks-giving rush.

..dear..f. p. collector? old, old stuff.........however, i liked to have

....our first born,..we had this crib~"rail -runner"....a winnie pooh with
a honey bee on its tail, ..packed away..with all his smurf's crib
acessories..& a ton..of receiving blankets/comfortors...& junk. &
one big -stuff "marvin" doll.

oh. boys don't..play with dolls..jus "action figures"~:snooty:

needless..to say....many g.i joes..are laying around..., but one
of the thing..i hated getting becausei had to carry all wdw, was one
of those...daniel boone 's long play rifles. however,

..the reason..the main reason..."toys"..has a place in our home, was after
a terrible ordeal that..my lil'miss cutie...went thru,:scared1: to safety get
our second....son delivered. [ let's jus say...one can imagined...
the panic..to be in a major/modern hospital.......in a critical condition,
...& no labor /delivery nurse [ called in & we got a the unprepared
nursery rn....], nor the ob dr.., home eating...while my wife..was
on a "pit-drip,...& students, running~no bolting...out the department....
...leaving her husband~ me..."in the catcher position"?

fast forward....it's deciding-time..whether or not we was going to
try..for..a lil' princess:. my wife....had such a painful-look....on her
face, & saddness too, "you can't ask me to go thru that again....

..instead....she enbarken..a new venture...barbie collecting..which
..i was happy...to helped.

fast forward another 5 years...& give or take....a few hundreds barbies...,

...."we"...got one heck of a surprise..+ the usual crises .....a lil' ariel

.....princess:. { my wife has snow white hair....]. and we've been on the go
ever since! { & now dvc members@ blt}

so.... as you can plainly see...toys have been reminding "us"...some

of the most precious memories..of our life! maybe you too?

I saved my Alvin and the Chipmunks plush doll. I also have a millenium collectors Barbie. And a Handmade doll that my aunt made me before she passed away.

I have alot of my childhood things! My favorite is a Madame Alexander doll baby by the name of "Kitten". I took her to a doll hospital years ago and had her lovingly restored! I have a "Kissy" doll from the 60's. When you bring her arms together she purses her lips and makes a kissing sound!

Unfortunately I gave all my original Barbie stuff to my sisters who had girls. I had sons and felt I didn't need them.

TC:cool1:

I saved some sentimental things:
the stuffed cat I carried around everywhere when I was little
a doll my Mom gave me that snuggled it's blanket when you pulled the string
a blanket she made for me

a few practical things that didn't happen to go to my younger cousins:
a Chain Lightening domino-type set DS has now
a Trivial Pursuit game we still have

some "representative of the era" type stuff:
a Rubik's cube
Return of the Jedi trading cards
my sticker album

and of course some favorite books!

There are also some decorative things from my room packed away, that I saved in case I had a girl - a print from the wall, desk things, etc. As I have a boy, they're still packed away in case he or my younger brother have girls.

Best toy ever for a boy growing up in the 70's like I did!

evel.jpg

My brothers had the stunt cycle! Loved playing with it.

As for the OP, I have a Jenny (not a Ginny) doll that my daughter will hug on now & a few other things. I think I've got a box of Strawberry Shortcake dolls somewhere....

I have my dolls from the 60s, including Barbie and Twiggy. My daughter will have all of her AG dolls and accessories because I'm saving those for her. My older son has a huge box of Star Wars toys from the late 70s.

I still have all my old GLAMOUR GALS and the big ship. My favorite "Gal" was "Lana." Did anyone else play with these?

I have a lot of Madame Alexander dolls still from a collection from my childhood and I have miniature doll house furniture from a doll house I used to have. The only thing left of "toys" that I had is a cow from The Sunshine Family barn I used to have. That was one of my favorite toys. I don't know why I only have the cow? I also have a lot of books still, which I treasure.
When I was 7, my father passed away and we lived in a large home. After that my mom sold the house and pretty much everything in it, including all my toys! Pretty traumatic not only to lose your parent, but everything else too...so the point is, that I think I made up for it by my kids having every toy under the sun and I will never, ever, get rid of them!

No and I wish I had Mrs. Beasley I loved her.

I had a Mrs. Beasley that I loved until I saw a Twilight Zone episode with an evil doll that looked like her. I took her off of the shelf in my room and I think I must have put her in the garbage can.
