Nope, by some standards perhaps. We were comfortable, at least that is the way I felt about it. I do not recall a time when we didn't have enough money to eat, but many of those meals were canned salmon wiggle and a roof over our head. Heat in the winter and fans in the summer. Didn't even have a TV until I was about 10. We went to neighbors to watch the snowy black and white flickering screens. We vacationed but mostly locally. No planes or road trips until I was a teenager. We had plenty of Christmas gifts and decent cars because that was Dad obsession. He traded cars at the same rate that most people change underwear, when the ashtrays were full, it was time for a different one, but we never went without because of it.
