Did you come from money?

No. I got into nursing because my mother worked as an aide in a neighborhood nursing home and from a young age I used to go in and sit and talk with the patients. My father owned a business but I think he owed more money than he made, lol. It’s all good though. I learned to work hard.

I'm exactly with @ronandannette . My dad had a white-collar job with some security working for county social services, but there really weren't any people who "had money." The richest people we knew would--wait for it--drive from Michigan to WDW every year. We couldn't fathom having that kind of money....... And now my husband and I do. Wow. You know, @Spinneret, I want to thank you for asking this question. It's a chance for gratitude. We feel like we're always struggling, but I guess we're where I always dreamed of being. Praise!

We were not rich, but we always lived in nicer country club type neighborhoods, vacationed every year, had a car at 16, wore the in style clothes. However, I know my parents loved me, but were never engaged much with me or my sister so we did our own thing.

Not even close. Single Mother who did the best she could to raise us, but we never had much of anything, except love

Nope, by some standards perhaps. We were comfortable, at least that is the way I felt about it. I do not recall a time when we didn't have enough money to eat, but many of those meals were canned salmon wiggle and a roof over our head. Heat in the winter and fans in the summer. Didn't even have a TV until I was about 10. We went to neighbors to watch the snowy black and white flickering screens. We vacationed but mostly locally. No planes or road trips until I was a teenager. We had plenty of Christmas gifts and decent cars because that was Dad obsession. He traded cars at the same rate that most people change underwear, when the ashtrays were full, it was time for a different one, but we never went without because of it.

No. I was born in 1962 and my dad was a mechanic at a local car dealership and my mom was a housewife.

I am intrigued by the past tense. Either you came from money or you didn't. Exceptions for families who were rich, lost everything half way through your childhood.

:flower3: A song I heard recently has a line that goes "do you remember the days when you prayed for the things you have now?". That idea has stayed with me and I've pondered it quite a bit. :worship:

Beyond broke. If it weren't for my paternal grandparents my sisters and I would have ended up in the foster system and my dad would have been homeless.

My grandparents not only made sure we had the essentials of food, clothing and shelter, but through careful planning, they also provided the fun adventures and extras that we never would have had otherwise.

No, not even close. We struggled for most of my childhood. We were helped a great deal by my grandparents and my aunt and uncle, who gave us groceries and money for my parents for Christmas presents and stuff like that. I don't really like to dwell on it too much.

Not even close. My husband grew up a lot more comfortable than I did (his dad owned a company, indoor swimming pool, huge house, vacations all over the country, etc) We see money a lot differently.
