Did The Da Vinci Code offend anyone here

Without a doubt, and I'd recommend the illustrated editions as a Holiday present idea for any loved one you know who loved the books themselves. They're truly remarkable accomplishments overall.

I really liked the book, and if it were true it would be I guess pretty neat but for entertainment it was good.

Not religious, didn't offend me, and I think its silly to get upset about a NOVEL anyway.

I don't believe the Holy Bloodline theory. I am someone who is not satisfied until I see forensic evidence of something.

I liked Angels and Demons better. The whole Vatican/Rome setting is just fascinating to me. It was cool to read the book the same time that the conclave took place in real life.

Read it, and loved it. Then I read "Angels and Demons" and I loved that one even more. Both were page turners in my opinion but I also don't get into heavily worded symbolism books either. I just like to be entertained.

Why did the Catholic Church have a problem with a fiction book? Well the same reason it has a problem with Harry Potter and the movie "Dogma" because they can.

The ony thing I hated about The Da Vinci Code was that it took so long to be relased in a paperback edition. I do NOT like hardback books one bit.

I enjoyed it and found it to be a very entertaining, intriguing read. I took it for what it was - a fictional book, but a very good one. I haven't yet read Angels and Demons but I will.

I'm Catholic and enjoyed the book, but I expected more because of all the hype associated with it. My son is 17, and he loved the book.

We both look at is as a book of fiction, but he enjoyed debating about the book with his friends, and his grandfather, who is an atheist, and read the book as a way to discredit the Church.

Actually, I don't think the Church had a problem with HP. At least none that I remember. I think it was more of the evangelical churches.

I thought daVinci Code was pretty interesting. I haven't read Angels and Demons yet. My son is reading it now.

hi
not offensive but boring. it didn't seem nearly as well written as his other books.

I didn't find it offensive because I saw it as a work of fiction. The beginning started out great but it definately dragged near the end and I think the book was definately over rated.

I consider the previous book, actually, Angels and Demons, to be one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read. Da Vinci Code was also extremely good. Since I believe much of the Bible is fiction (sorry folks), I cannot really comment on the controversy because it is just a fiction versus fiction thing to me.

This is exactly how I feel, to the letter, but then again I do to tend find myself agreeing with you often.

I thought The Da Vinci Code was excellent. Went to Paris (and DLRP) over the summer and visited many of the places mentioned. Can't wait for the movie. Reading Angels now; I also enjoyed Digital Fortress.

You mean it's fiction? :confused3

Just kidding!

I read DaVinci first and loved it. Then read Angels and Demons which I thought was BETTER. Deception Point and Digital Fortress are both very interesting, but I think I enjoy the religious aspects of the first two more.

I am glad to hear Dan Brown is writing another book.

I am a christian as well and I was not offended in any way by the book. It is a work of fiction and in my opinion it was an enjoyable read. I look forward to the release of the movie and would be interested to see how it compares to the book.

I actually read Angels and Demons first, and still enjoyed it more than the DaVinci Code.

I just finished the DaVinci Code (seriously, about 45 minutes ago). I liked it a lot, and am looking forward to the movie. I was raised Catholic, and was not personally offended by it.

I could see how some people might be though.

Daxx's Wife here. I am a Catholic and teach at a Catholic school. I was not offended by it ... but intrigued. The priest at my school and a few of us teachers had a loooong discussion about the book and it was so much fun! He gave us loads of insight to the riches of the Vatican and loads of other info. that was just interesting. We had a great night discussing it. And, I am not a hyper-religious person. I am of the thinking that "so what if Jesus were married and had a child w/MM." Just me.

I found the info. on DaVinci's art (ie: the extra hand, possible MM instead of John, the V that is made in the Last Supper painting, lack of cups thus the lack of a holy grail, priori of scion, etc.), and how the author tied everything together more interesting than anything else.

I will add that I liked Angels and Demons better, though!!!!

I've read both Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code - in that order - and also loved both. While it's totally a work of fiction I think it's convincing given the Church's historical views of women in general.

I read it and it was SO predictable. But I do think Angels and
Demon is the best book he wrote. The other (yes I read them after this book) were way more predictable. I found nothing offensive in them. He had to make history fit his theory. It is a fiction book and that is all.

I found the Da Vinci Code enjoyable.
I did find minimal parts of it offensive, but it is a work of fiction.
I am Christian & what offended me was not the 'bloodline' business, not in the least, but the characterization of the Cathars--so I guess, my objections are historical, rather than the more typical religious objections.
I too, am not enthused by Tom Hanks playing the lead role, but perhaps he will surprise me.

When I read that the Catholic church had problems with it, it made me want to read it more! I put my name on a waiting list at the library and it took about a month until it was my turn. It was the illustrated version, and I liked it a lot.

I am not Catholic, so I am not stating this as fact, but they probably had a problem with it because there really are a lot of people out there that look at it as non-fiction. I have even read posts by people on this site using it as an argument in religious debate threads.
