Did The Da Vinci Code offend anyone here

Couple points:

1 - No, not offended at all. But then, my views of religion (and christianity in particular) are well known around here, so I can't imagine why I would have been. :teeth:

2 - It's important to remember just what bicker pointed out. While the story is a work of fiction, there are many facts that surround the story. The suppression by the church of anything that did not follow their doctrine is hardly a new concept. They've been doing it since the Dark Ages...a time, btw, when religion ruled reason in the western world.

3 - The bible is viewed by many as infallible...despite the many fallacies that are right there in black and white for anyone with the eyes to see. For some reason, people get touchy when you point that out, however, so I'm not at all surprised that this book caused the stink it did.

4 - As for the rest of Dan Brown's books, I liked "Angels and Demons" best, and the others came after that. The Illuminati were a very real organization once upon a time, and as someone that finds conspiracy theories interesting, they're an organization I've read a lot about.

5 - Can't wait for his book on the Masons. :teeth: Plenty of story fodder there, going all the way back to the founding of this country.

Anyway, I also think that the reason the Church did not like DaVinci code is because of the fact that the book claims that the Church supressed books of the Bible to fit its own agenda. Plus this concept that Jesus was married is not going to fly.
You know, those are 2 things that I don't understand.

Just recently, there was a big brouhaha over the Book of Judas, which seems to have been found. And that Judas didn't betray Jesus, but did what he was told to do. Well...OK...the bottom line is that the "plan" was that Jesus was going to have to die for our sins, and He did. Does it truly make a differenece how He got to that point? I guess I'm a destination person, not a journey person.

As far as Jesus being married...that really doesn't bother me either. He was God made into a human. Humans feel love, want to share their life with someone, so if He was married, whyis that a problem? He was a Jewish rabbi essentially, and it's no problem for a rabbi to be married.

Sometimes I think people miss the forest for the trees.

I am about 3/4 throught the book. I have not been offended at all. I am a Christian but I do not have rose colored glasses.

I personally would have no problem if it was true that Jesus was married. I would also not have a problem accepting that only parts of what was written at the time was included to benefit the church and politics. Although I believe the Bible is the word of God, it doesn't mean that man included everything in the publishing. Also, as someone else pointed out with the numerous translations and republications of the Bible over the years things aren't necessarily exactly what was written at the time.

read the book and liked it now reading angels and demons

also i remember there being a show on tv some time ago (U.K) called unlocking da vinci's code which was about finding out about Mary Magdeline and there's also the gospel of judas (still need to watch that) which is supposed to tell you about the gospel i think

I read DaVinci and Angels. Loved them both. Neither one offended me.

But, I have to admit that I'm surprised DaVinci is the most controversial. IMO, Angels is far more inflamatory toward the Church.
