Couple points:
1 - No, not offended at all. But then, my views of religion (and christianity in particular) are well known around here, so I can't imagine why I would have been.
2 - It's important to remember just what bicker pointed out. While the story
is a work of fiction, there are many
facts that surround the story. The suppression by the church of anything that did not follow their doctrine is hardly a new concept. They've been doing it since the Dark Ages...a time, btw, when religion ruled reason in the western world.
3 - The bible is viewed by many as infallible...despite the many fallacies that are right there in black and white for anyone with the eyes to see. For some reason, people get touchy when you point that out, however, so I'm not at
all surprised that this book caused the stink it did.
4 - As for the rest of Dan Brown's books, I liked "Angels and Demons" best, and the others came after that. The Illuminati were a very real organization once upon a time, and as someone that finds conspiracy theories interesting, they're an organization I've read a lot about.
5 - Can't
wait for his book on the Masons.

Plenty of story fodder there, going all the way back to the founding of this country.
