Deyki's Make-A-Wish - 12/15 - Maybe not

so glad to hear you had a great trip and i cant wait to hear all about it. hope your little one is feeling better and that no one catches it. can deyki take some tamiflu to try to prevent it?. my big one had it last week and my lil one is having surgery in 2 days so they gave it to her to try and keep her healthy.

Deyki, Nidra, and Chantae are still with my sister while I nurse Michelle back to health. Her fever is gone, but her cough is worse. She is miserable. I started Tamiflu yesterday and am already feeling better than I did then. So, here goes a start to the TR. . . .

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 - DAY ONE

We woke before dawn. It was cold in Chicago!! It was right at freezing when we left. The limo was scheduled to pick us up at 5:45. There was no grumbling about such a cold, early morning, just the sense of excitement in the air! At 5:35 I told the children the limo would soon arrive, and we went to move the suitcases outside. When I opened the door, the limo was just pulling up!

None of us had been in a limo before, so that was excitement right away. They tried out all the seats and laughed a lot on our short ride to the airport. It took maybe 15 minutes to get to Ohare.

They loved that they could lay down in the seats and lounge!

The men working the curbside baggage check were in especially cheerful moods. They talked a lot with Deyki about what he would do on his trip. They explained the process to the kids and joked around with them. Deyki was a little nervous about flying, so it was really nice that they were like that with him. Even going through security, we encountered very friendly, cheerful people who were more than willing to help a mom traveling alone with three excited children.

"I'm a little bit scared about this airplane, Mom."

We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to watch planes coming and going and to prep the kids for the trip ahead.

They just spotted our plane approaching the gate. Now they are ready to board it!

We interrupt this TR to back up and show pics of the Big Give gifts that arrived just prior to our departure. . .

As you can see they kids were delighted with their clothing!

Thank you!! We had so many comments and questions about their clothes!

I love the great start! I bet it was COLD that morning! I am cold just reading about it! BURRRRRR! I am glad everyone was so friendly at the airport! What a great way to start off the day!

Now on with the TR -

They let us board the plane early so I could sanitize any surface Deyki would be touching. I covered his seat with a crib sheet so it would be as allergy and germ free as possible. I asked each person sitting near us if they would be eating peanut products, and no one had any. Then I felt safe enough to relax and enjoy the flight.

The kids especially enjoyed watching the city buildings get smaller and smaller as we rose higher. Chantae said her favorite parts was taking off and landing. They liked the fact that I was giving them gum to chew and lollipops to suck on. Nidra seemes to especially enjoy her drink options and using the headphones to listen to the movie. Flying through the clouds was another adventure for them. They were excellent travelers!

When they flight attendents noticed our Make A Wish shirts they gave us all plenty of attention. They even arranged for the children to meet the pilots and see the cockpit when we landed in Orlando.

When we arrived in Orlando, we were greeted by a cheerful, energetic GKTW volunteer. We quickly got the rental car and were off to GKTW!

Great start to your report. I am sorry Michelle is so sick. I love that the flight crew let the kids see the cockpit!

They were excellent with the children. They took time to answer their questions and let them touch everything. It was a fantastic start to our trip!

I have never used the words "It took 15 minutes to get to Ohare" in my life! LOL! That is great!

That is awesome that everyone was so friendly and helpful at the airport!

Thank you so much for posting those Incredibles shirt pictures!! Deyki's smile really made my day!! :cloud9: The Minnie outfit from Shannon looks great on!!

How cool that they got to see the cockpit, too!! Wow, what a great start!

What a great start to your trip, and your trip report! It's so great they got that little bit of recognition from the flight crew, things like that really do mean a lot to kids. The shirts are too cute, can't wait to see the pics from the parks!

Awesome start!!!!!

Woo Hoo!

I just LOVE wish trip reports! :goodvibes

Love the limo and I love that you guys have had great encounters with everyone so far!

So glad to see their smiles! It's great to hear that you had so much fun on your trip!

It felt so good to step out of the airport into the warm Florida weather. The children loved seeing the palm trees, flowers, and various birds they had never before seen outside of a zoo.

Give Kids the World was like stepping into the pages of a marvelous picture storybook! Our villa wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so we went to get some ice cream. It was the very first time Deyki has ever been able to eat ice cream anywhere but at home! He was so excited. Even though they had a variety of allergy free options for him, all he wanted to entire week was a scoop of vamilla on a cone. He was thrilled!

When we finished ice cream, our villa was ready. The kids rode in the golf cart with a volunteer and I followed in the rental car. We were in 101 - the very first villa. The kids enjoyed chasing the lizards that were running all around outside and the little frogs that climbed all orund our entryway each evening. You just don't see things like that in Chicago!

Once in the villa, they couldn't decide if they wanted to open the gift bag first or jump into the Jacuzzi. The jacuzzi had more votes, so they got into their swimsuits and all three managed to fit in together. There was so much laughter!

After a wonderfully fun time in the jacuzzi, they each claimed a bed and looked at all the fun gifts on the table. I found my favorite vitamin water in the fridge, and the kids were each happy to grab a can of Coke.

Then there was a knock at the door. A volunteer was there with a lion gift bag filled with Rolos - lots and lots of Rolos. In my conversations with GKTW staff the week before our trip I had mentioned that Deyki said he would spend all his spending money on Rolos. They must have made a note of it, because there they were with at least a pack of Rolos for each day of the trip! The week was filled with details like that. Things you just can't plan.

I think they would have been happy just enjoying the villa, but we had to go explore some more!

The gift bag of rolos put the biggest grin on my face, I bet he was in heaven! I'm so enjoying reading along!

Glad to hear that you are home and Michelle is on the mend! Great start to the TR. Sounds like GTKW made sure you had a great arrival!!!

The first thing we tried out at GKTW was the Dino-Putt mini-golf. Wow! That was fun! We laughed so hard. We screamed at some of the surprises the dinosaurs had in store for us. We watched Chantae's hair beads glow in the cave.

We stopped in the arcade and played for a little while, but everyone was eager to keep exploring. We quickly checked out the trains and the remote control boats.

Next we rode the carousel twice and grabbed dinner at the Gingerbread House. It is such a cheerful, fun-filled place!

The new pool had just opened and was definitely a highlight for the children! They could have spent a lot more time there if time had allowed. I can't seem to find the pictures I took there. I think maybe they are on Nidra's camera. If I find them, I will post them.

There was disagreement among the troops about whether to stay in the pool or head over to the Life-Sized Candyland game. I pulled rank and we were off to the game! I think in the end everyone was happy with the decision! On the way to catch the train to the playground, we met the cookie and lemonade man and got some treats.

The kids all enjoyed playing on the playground while we waited for the game to start. Once the game started, Deyki becamse super competeitive and was determined to beat his sisters! He started out behind them, but RAN from space to space winning by a margin in the end! They all got a handful of lollipops for playing. He had his first Snow Cone there - and his second, third, and fourth!!! He was pumped full of sugar and loving every second of it!

The Gingerbread Man and Mayor Clayton joined the fun as parents and children danced in the street. Nidra really enjoyed the dancing and the limbo! She looked at the full moon and told me, "Wow, Mom! You hardly let us stay up when the moon is up and here we are dancing in the street under the moon and eating all kinds of sugar!"

The train drove us back to the villa after the party, and we all went right to bed. I had planned to get back to the playground and get pictures and let them play, but the options were too plentiful and we never made it. If I find anymore pics on Nidra's camera, I will post them here.

I just love this.

They are having so much fun! And enjoying the simple things in life. This is fantastic! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Deyki is sick. Just spiked a fever over 104 and started coughing. On the way to the hospital. Pray for someone to come get Michelle, so I can care for Deyki.
