My DD is planning on taking a rolling suitcase that came in one of those 4pc sets. Although the carry on seems, to me, a bit on the large size it was labeled as an approved carry on (or however they word it). I went to the Delta website and they state that the carry on must be 45 inches (height+width+length) or less. I measured DDs carry on and it was exactly 45inches and I did measure the wheels as well. (I did measure a hair long each way just to be on the safeside). With all of the travelers trying to save on checked bags (we are one of them)I am concerned they will not let this through. I am already prepared to gate check it on the smaller plane. I just don't want DD to pack items to help pass the time (5 hour flight) only to have to check it completely. Do you think there will be a problem? Should I take it down to the airport before we go? is that even allowed?
Thanks.

She is allowed a personal item. She should take a small back pack or bag to put her items to use during the flight anyway because the big bag will have to go overhead and she wouldn't be able to get anything out of it during the flight. with the small bag under her seat she can get her books or snacks or whatever out anytime. And then it wouldn't matter if they have to gate check it.

The measurement sounds fine. Almost every long distance flight I am on the last few people have to gate check because the overheads are full. Put any valuables in the personal item.

Thanks for the replies. I will have her put her magazines and her DS in her personal bag. She wasn't planning on digging into her carry one for most of the flight anyway. I think she just wanted it when we are in the room w/o waiting for Magical Express.
