Dedicated and lock off room question

This year we had two DVC trips (our first two). In each instance, the confirmation we received from DVD listed our reservation as a 1BR lock-off. First one was VWL, second was BWV.

Each time we ended up checking into a dedicated 1BR. It really doesn't matter much to us either way on a 1BR.

Next year, we are booked into a 2BR at VWL. Our confirmation came back and said 2BR dedicated.

So my question is...how accurate are these confirmations? Will we most likely get a dedicated 2BR (we didn't request one) or will it more likely be "luck of the draw"?

What's everyone's experience with this? Since we are 0 for 2 on getting what was on the confirmation sheet, I thought I'd ask. We'd prefer the dedicated with the two beds in the second BR...but it's not a big deal either way.

More a curiosity, I guess.

If the dedicated is what you prefer inquire about it at check-in. I usually have a specific view or building requested and that is noted on my confirmation. I always ask upon check-in and, more often than not, our request have been met. The front desks have always been very accommodating.

Inventory changes from the time the confirmation letter is printed and check-in time. Therefore, lock-off versus dedicated is probably filled to meet the demand or otherwise specifically requested.

Whenever we have needed a two-bedroom we have requested a lockoff when we made the reservation. We have always received a lockoff.

If your confirmation specifically states a dedicated two-bedroom, and that is what you want, you should get it. If you would like otherwise, now is the time to change it with a call to MS.

We will be staying at the VWL in a 2BR in December. We made no specific request for lock-off or dedicated, but the confirmation says dedicated. Could someone please give me the pros and cons of each? There will be 7 of us (my DD and her BF, my DS, DIL and their 16 month old, and my DH and myself). Thanks!

We have had the same situation. We've stayed in studios 2 times and while the reservation confirmation sheet said lock-off, we had a dedicated. We are going again in December and again in March, and both reservation forms state lock-off. I have not requested preference. We stayed in a 2BR last Sept. before we were members and that was also dedicated. That reservation was made through Walt Disney Travel by our travel agent. We had 8 in our party that time. I can't say what the advantages are since I've only stayed in dedicated rooms. These have all been at VWL.

Granny, on our last trip we requested a dedicated, and got it. I don't think this is a request, but rather a true assignment at booking (although that didn't hold true for your 1br).

Tootsietoo, a lock-off has one bed and a pull out sofa in the studio portion, a kitchenette, and a door to hall (all in the studio portion). In other words, it is truly a studio attached to a 1br by opening the joining door. The dedicated is a true 2br. It has the two beds in the second bedroom, and a huge closet where the hall door would be.
As far as preferance, I like the dedicated but everyone has their own opinions on this. If you would be sleeping four in the second bedroom, I would suggest a dedicated.

Have fun...

We prefer the two-bedroom lockoff at OKW because the studio has a balcony and a separate outside entry. With a dedicated two-bedroom the studio part does not have these.

Lew, I can't speak for every dedicated 2br at VWL, but our last stay we had a balcony off the second bedroom.

Interesting though, there are different balcony configurations with different rooms...even within the same room class (2br ect...).

There are some slight advantages/disadvantages to the dedicated at OKW and BWV. Slightly more room with the dedicated, more closets (for sure at OKW), no second kitchnette but more storage room, more security. As noted, the lockoff's have some entry/balcony issues that might be an advantage or disadvantage for some. Also at BW, the studio plus rooms are dedicated studios and since they are no longer guaranteed, you will only have a change of getting one if you are getting a dedicated studio.

At WLV, it's a little different. The dedicated 2 BR units have 2 queen beds in the second while the lockoff's have a queen plus a pull out. I'm assuming any dedicated 1 BR or studios are the same configuration as the lockoff's. BCV will have the same issue only it will be more confusing as part of the dedicated units will be like WLV and part will be just like the lockoff's.

Much like the corner and odd rooms at VB where some are quite different. I think one even sleeps 6 and a couple of others sleep 5. I'd sure like to see a layout that actually gave the variations and told which rooms were which.

Thanks to all for the responses.

We really don't care much if we get a dedicated 2BR or not. We have other requests already that are more important to us....non-smoking/lake side of building, upper floors, etc. So it was more a curiosity than anything.

Just trying to get people's experiences with what the confirmation says and what they ended up with.

Again, it's not a big thing to us. We can handle the pull out sofa and extra access door.

After all, it's only four of us...and we're already spoiling ourselves with a 2BR!!

We have stayed twice in dedicated 2BR's at VWL and both times there were balconies off the second BR but NO BALCONY off the Master BR.
