Deciding on a Use Year/ Questions

Hello everyone!

Since the first resale fell apart before it got off the ground I’m back at it trying to find another gem and I had a question about Use Years & their stock/quantity.

Is there any month which seems to have more resales or listings than the others? Does the fact that there are no January, July or November play into more inventory in the months immediately before/after or are contracts evenly distributed between the 9 use years (months)?

Are there any use years more sought after or rare than others and why?

Before I take another deep dive into the resales and start charting use years out there I thought I’d ask the DVC brain trust! While we’d like to just start with one smaller point contract we have the sneaking suspicion we will be adding other contracts on and don’t want to pigeon hole ourselves into a difficult use year to add to.

You can actually look up the percentages for each resort. I have oct and feb, which are both on the rare side.

I don’t really view UY as that big of a deal. I care more about the value of the contract. But we don’t travel as predictably as some.

December, February, June, and August are the most popular UYs, in that order. It varies slightly based on resort, however, so I encourage you to go look at the page shared. Generally speaking, the more popular the UY, the more likely you are to find resale contracts.

Tend to agree with the idea that the most popular years (months) would have more resales available. Which also probably means higher demand for those looking to add to their existing use years so more competitive / potentially more $$$

I have 2 use years (December and February). That was not the original plan, but when the 2019 resale restrictions came out and I wanted to add on, I went for a contract that gave me the second use year. Honestly, it is not hard at all to have 2 use years. And I can tell you that these are both very large use years as I always see them available on the resale sites.

Now in hindsight, I really wish I also had an August UY as my main UY as it would work better with my travel dates (typically september and march) for WDW and then my DL one should maybe be the Feb one, but I go several times a year so maybe 2 UYs there would be better. You need to think about when you travel and get a UY that is in the first 6 months of that UY.
