December 2013 car rental

You could save a bundle if you are willing to pick up your rental from an off-airport location. You can return the rental to MCO, but you must pick it up off-airport. There does not appear to be a premium for dropping it off at the airport, as long as you pick up at an off-airport location. I tried this on the Costco website. For Christmas week, the rates are cut in half when picking up the rental at any of the off-airport locations. You would simply need to take a cab over to your off-airport pickup location. Even factoring in the cab fare, it is still far cheaper.

OR WORST!

The capitalistic greedy guts are about to force me to drive my vehicle, even though I have airfare already booked at a decent fare...I AIN'T gonna pay nearly $1000 for a 15 day rental! :scared1:
Your countdown says that you're arriving on 1/8. I see cars for less than $500 for those dates :confused3 (1/8 -1/23). Is your countdown wrong?

Yup! This is a great trick :). You can also rent a car one-way from MCO for one day and pick up your new car near WDW the next day.

I tried that for early December because I have done that many times before. More expensive than picking up at airport.

Not for my dates either (Friday, Dec. 13- Tuesday, Dec. 17). Checked with Dollar & Alamo... Alamo spikes up from $160 to $320! and Dollar is up from $141 to $249!

My rates were cheaper picking up at airport returning off site. I will just take ME back to airport. I never tried pickup off site with airport return.

That's why it's good to check all options :thumbsup2.

Alamo has a rate of $181 (with taxes!) for an FULL SIZE for Christmas week. Picking up at the airport and dropping at the Care Care Center - 12/22 - 12/29 using contract ID "706768". You can take ME back if you're onsite or spend $50 on a one-way car rental back. It still saves you money off the $350+ per week current rates.

What is "association discount" contract id # 706768? wondering if its a club or something that requires membership?

I got it off of Car Rental Savers. i googled it and it appears to be a generic discount code. It saves 10%.

ETA: Are you keeping your car for more than 4 days (like 4 days plus a few hours) because I saw cheaper rates than $160 for your dates on Car Rental Savers. Check here: http://www.carrentalsavers.com/orlando_car_rental.html I get under $100 for some of the second tier companies.

Looks like rates may have dropped again, I just knocked another $26 off a Fullsize rental through Costco for 8 days, down to $183.00.

Pays to keep checking!

If you go directly into Alamo and use the Costco code of 7014627 and the Alamo Insider coupon AU5224JAB [one class car upgrade - and it will take it using Costco code] you should be able to book a mid-size [then one class car upgrade] for $171. which is an automatic upgrade to full at the Orlando airport - as there is no standard aisle for vehicles.

Let me know if that worked for you. :goodvibes

Wheels down for us is 11 am:24 DEC....16 days....(return it 5 pm:8 JAN..
Now I'm finding over $1000 rates. I may just put new Michelins on my ride, and head east a day sooner! ....(the rest of the crew can still fly if they wanna!) :scratchin

Just got a better deal from Budget on a mini van. I used Costco code
A017600 and coupon MUGZ165. My previous amount was $263 and now it's
$227.89 for a week rental from 12/7 to 12/14. This is from MCO and drop off at Port Canaveral. :)

Looks like $265 is the prepay rate with taxes on the budget site with these codes from costco.

I just used Noon to Noon but the rate is slightly higher for the extra hours. Using the above I see $156 for a compact and $174 standard.
