Need updates on renting a car

Honestly haven't had a good experience with Enterprise at all. The only good time was when I was rearended and that was the preferred rental car company my insurance company used so I had that rental while my car was getting fixed. Multiple other bad experiences including a very terrible time on our way out of state. My step-father-in-law stopped recommending them to his insurance clients because of how bad they have been.

I prefer Avis, my husband also likes National.
Interesting that your husband would like National, it's a subsidiary of Enterprise.

Renters from some countries, I think including the UK, are required to purchase insurance and prepaid gas

Nah that's not interesting in the least. The rental cars out there are bulk owned by just 3 different companies Avis, Hertz and Enterprise. But indeed one can have vastly different experiences between all the various ones out there between the subsidies and the remaining low percentage of other companies.

National has been quite good with my husband over the years, Enterprise heck no but haven't really had bad stuff with Alamo. Budget is iffy but Avis is generally excellent. It's been ages since I've rented with Dollar but Hertz the few times I have not terrible though I know the scanners are giving them a bad rap (we had scanners in England with Sixt rental and Avis is starting to use those so who knows if they will be as much of a bad rap as Hertz has gotten).
