December 2013 car rental

Well after complaining about how much I hate Alamos website and their refusal to accept coupons lately, their prices have dropped for me tonight. I previously had a fullsize with Dollar for $198 for 9 days. They are coming at $186.12 for the same dates and times. We really really like being able to pick our own car, so I think this is the one we will keep. I'll keep my eye out for more drops.
In case anyone is interested this is for 12/13/13 to 12/22/13 and using the SunPromo for 15% off found under the deals section of their website.

According to the Alamo website the SunPromo is for 8/19/13-12/15/13. How did you get it until the 12/22?

I have no idea. I didn't notice that until I read your post. So I went back and checked and it's still letting me use it and coming up with the same price:confused3.
I do see the dates you mentioned before I hit search, but it goes through anyway. Maybe your rental has to start before 12/15/13?

Last night I was trying to find a good price for a rental car from Alamo or National for 11/30-12/8. Prices were high. Today I went to Alamo and found that the rental was less if we pick it up at MCO and drop it off at Car Care Center. So that's what we are going to do. $222 for a Chrysler for one week rental. I am happy with that. Did a check in on line, so no need to wait at a counter. I used to love the Emerald Aisle for National, but their prices are just way too high. So, the sister company with the same cars in the same location are cheaper and same thing!

And... UPDATE. Well, there's no update. As expected, Alamo did not follow thru. Which tells me all I need to know about what they think of their customers.

OK folks, I FINALLY got an email from the Tri Brand Airport Manager (Alamo, National, Enterprise) at MCO late yesterday:

"First let me thank you for choosing Alamo. I know you have options when it comes to choosing a leasing company. I truly appreciate your business. 100% customer satisfaction is our top priority and I thank you for taking the time to contact us.

With regards to your recent inquiries about our coupon policy, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Not all coupons are valid at every location and I and I apologize if that was not conveyed to you. Please let me know if I can assist in any way. I want to correct this situation and reaffirm your faith in Alamo. My contact information is also stated below."

So basically, they are not accepting coupons at MCO is what I get out of this.

I contacted Alamo yesterday, who also checked with a few different departments and was told that not all locations are participating in coupons. They also said that their Orlando location is one of their "busiest" locations (So I am guessing that is why they think they don't have to offer coupons at that location). I told them that I'm guessing they may be losing some business to other companies such as Dollar and other companies that are willing to accept coupons. I wonder in 6-9 months when they see a drop in revenue at that location if they will add the coupons back in.?

Thanks for the update.

I am not buying their response. I am able to use the Alamo Insider upgrade coupon when I enter the Costco code, but when I try to use it with the sunpromo code I always get the "this coupon is no longer available at this location" message. Yes, I know that you can't always use certain coupons with certain codes, but it still indicates to me that the website is wonky. And why, if I try immediately to again use the Costco code with the upgrade coupon I get the message "coupon quantity exceeded." Yet in another hour or so it will take it again? I shouldn't have to clear my cookies every time to make it work. Wonky, wonky, wonky. :scared:

National Car Rental -- use this code for KLM airlines (free to join, but they have never asked me for my Frequent Flyer card.) 8572130

This coupon will get you an additional $30 off : NDA2354BU

We're down to $230 for a full size car for 9 days, and it'll probably go down again. That's the cheapest I can find so far, cheaper than Costco by over $100.

What coupon is this??? the NDA2354BU???
I punched it in and got a price that is $45 less than my last try at National but it says that I must present coupon at time of rental. I know people say they never ask but if I din't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.

I rented earlier this year for a full week through Budget for $150, taxes included.

What kind of deals are people finding for a four-day rental?

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

Deals on 4-day rentals are rare because you are charged by the day. Often a 4-day rental will be more than a 7-day rental! What are your dates?

Alamo's fun in the sun 15% off deal finally worked for me this morning. I got a mid-sized car from 12/2 to 12/8 for $148 with tax.

Hope this was a good deal, from what I read it's not bad, not fabulous but it will save us about $50 in taxis and sedan fees for the week we're there.

OK...totally annoyed, but hopeful that prices will drop right before the trip (happened last Jan).

Please help find the best deal you can for MCO, pretty please!
12/5 (6pm)
12/14 (11am)

I am a Costco member...best I could find is $201 for full-size with Alamo (Costco website). I opted instead to just do a 4 day request MCO-4pm return at Dolphin, still with Alamo for $77. I just prefer to have a car the whole time...and a minivan is preferred as my inlaws are joining in for part of the trip.

Thanks!

I was just able to book a full size car 12/6 - 12/14 [8 day rental] with Dollar using their "city special rates" for $172. total. I have a Dollar Express membership so can walk right out to vehicle, so I don't think that's horrible. :goodvibes

That's a good deal. What I don't like about dollar is they charge $11/day for an additional driver so that adds up quickly if you are looking to add an additional driver.

I still have not found anything better so far for our Dec 2 - 11 trip. We have a Full size car for $178 or a Full SUV or MiniVan for $292 with Alamo and a free additional driver.

I have had this price for about 4 months with nothing ever going cheaper. I think one of these is what I will have to choose. My grown daughter and I split the trip so I'm sure she'll want the car. I prefer the SUV, so I think I will have to pay the extra $114 to get it.

This trip, my husband won't be with me so I am the only driver, but you are right - that does add up quickly. It doesn't even seem to matter if you are a Dollar Express member or not, like Alamo and National.

Thanks! Apparently I was feeling a bit melodramatic this morning :upsidedow

I am just used to spending around $150 (or less) for a van for a week...

I plan on being the primary driver...not sure if DH will drive or not. Hmmm...

I don't think you acted melodramatic at all. :wave2: I too remember the great rates from years past and miss them immensely, but I have been consistently paying higher prices for my early December trips. Usually, I can still snag a good deal for early June. :confused3 A few years ago, the rental car companies lowered their supply of vehicles to increase the demand. Darn capitalism at its best. :goodvibes

?... Darn capitalism at its best. .......:goodvibes

OR WORST!

The capitalistic greedy guts are about to force me to drive my vehicle, even though I have airfare already booked at a decent fare...I AIN'T gonna pay nearly $1000 for a 15 day rental! :scared1:
