Woohoo! Booked POFQ yesterday for 13-27. This is our second trip to Disney - first time in December! :cool1:

i've only been ONCE in December but at that time we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and Disney is crazy beautiful that time of year. If you can fathom this.....it's even more magical than normal! You are there for two whole weeks...lucky you!

We weren't originally going to rent a car. But my mother ( I don't know why) is trying to convince me that our vacation would be better with a car. So for those of you who have rented cars at WDW a few questions...

1) Is parking free at the resort hotel? (POP! is where we are staying)
2) Is parking free at the parks for on-property guests? Or will be have to pay a parking fee everyday?
3) Do you find it more convenient not having to wait for public transportation?
4) Being able to go to other places to eat/buy groceries...is it worth it?

Thanks everyone!!! :goodvibes

1) yes- we have never paid for "self" parking at any resort.

2) parking is free at the theme parks as well, at least it was last September.....

3) I love the freedom of the car- free to go when and where I want. Makes dining much easier, makes resort exploring much easier, makes coffee/grocery runs easier and most important I can enjoy a to go ghiradelli sundae in the comfort of my room after sending my husband out ;)

4) I think it is worth it for me, even when we didn't travel with kids. I have always searched and gotten decent rates. You spend so much money on everything else is the time spent waiting for transportation worth saving $200? I know it's not in everyone's budget but if you can swing it I would.

@ksromack I saw you mentioned that you have dropped PH - I've decided to do that this time aswell. At first I couldn't see Disney without it but then I was looking at my plan and realised we were spending full days in parks, the PH was only needed for one day (possibly two) so I've tweaked our plan so that we don't need them. Saves money and we can always add them when we're there.

I'm still nervous about it though :scared: :rotfl:

So if we decide once we're in Orlando that we really do need the park hopper, we can add it for the same price we were refunded when I canceled them? I *think* we can get away with not having the PH...if anything it would give us some time to unwind and relax a little (imagine that....relaxing while on vacation, :rotfl2:) after a long day on our feet in the parks.

We fly in on Dec 8th but are staying at Royal Pacific at Universal. We're picking up a car at the airport but will keep it for only 2 days until we can check in at POR on the 10th. If we had stayed at POR the whole time we found that taking a taxi to Universal for 2 days would have cost us almost as much as renting a car. We plan on stopping at a grocery store or Wallmart and buying some snacks/water bottles/ and maybe some adult beverages. I'm not sure about parking at the resort but I thought you had to pay for parking at the parks?!? Could be very wrong about that. I have never found the disney transportation to be cumbersome at all....and I'll tell you at the end of a very long day of walking and riding rides, having someone pick me up is very welcomed! This is just my opinion, though. You should do what feels right for your situation.

Parking is free for resort guests and AP holders: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/parking.htm

ETA that we rent a car because we stay offsite, and we love having the freedom to go out to the store whenever we need, get in the car and go whenever we wish without waiting, etc. The transportation board has discount codes posted. I'm keeping my eye on the December thread. ;)

To be honest, the more I think of it... The more I like the idea of a car. No waiting for the bus. No need to plan for hour long transport times. We can leave our stroller in the trunk during the week. Maybe be able to pack a couple lunches. I think Disney's fabulous free transportation marketing ploy sucked me in.

Add me in! Arriving December 12th! :cool1:

We were talking with my Mom the other night and our orignal plan was to leave our house on Monday and arrive at Pop on Tuesday, she said that we could leave on SUNDAY!!! :cool1: (She's watching our kids!) So we would need to add a day to our reservation (not complaining at all) We plan to just spend Monday relaxing and resort hopping to see all the decorations and probably will head to DTD. Tuesday we are still going to keep our original plans of MVMCP and just have a day to sleep in (a luxury we don't get to often with our boys) and then making our way to MK so we can get in at 4. I'm so excited I can't stand it

I have started to shop for DH and I for our trip. I got DH a Perry shirt and myself a mickey/minnie shirt from the Disney Store Outlet for $20/2. I plan to order us shirts for our anniversary (DH gave the green light so I am doing it before he changes his mind).... http://www.etsy.com/listing/101468213/custom-disney-anniversary-shirt-set-1 ... The design will be a little different since it will be our 10th anniversary.

Can't wait to see how everyone's planning is going and hear all about it. Time to go follow some PTR and think about doing one of my own for the first time ever.

Arriving Dec. 13 with DH, DSon and our DFriend Mark, with whom we've been friends for more than a decade and is really more like a brother. Staying until Dec. 18 at POFQ. This will be trip number 4 with DH, but first time ever with our son, who is 2. Also excited about first time staying in a moderate1

:goodvibes

We drove down but decided to use the Disney transportation .... did it the first day and, even though no complaints, we decided the car was the better way to go and used it for the rest of the trip.

Your parking is free at your resort & parks. If you eat at another resort, you can park for up to 3 hours at their resort.

YES! Super convenient - go when you want, leave when you want. No waiting for buses, no dealing with huge lines if you leave the park when it closes.

I will save $292 if I remove our PH (5 adults, 5 day base ticket). If you do decide to upgrade it is more expensive than advance tix. I have tweaked my schedule so that we do a park a day. Hopping can waste a lot of time. That money saved will pay for the MVMCP tickets :goodvibes

I see we have a few more friends on the roll-call ... Welcome :teeth:

Don't forget to add your names to the MVMCP calendar if you are going - link in my siggy :)

Oh and not having to carry the stroller to and from your room.... Huge!! I even left the diaper bag in there and only carried what we really needed for the kids too... Figured worst case running to the car wouldn't be so bad if there was an item we needed (and knock on wood that hasn't happened the past 2 visits) :)

Unless you're getting a discount from UT, isn't the price the same no matter when you by the PH?

After looking at Belle4311's repost of the roster, I noticed something. There is going to be an army of us staying at the Port Orleans resorts (especially Riverside) from 12/4-12/14.

This excites me, and gives me a touch of anxiety. I'm excited, with the potential of running into and/or maybe sharing a drink or 2 at River Roost. Anxiety because, with so many DISers being in close proximity, if I don't run into 1, I might just start kicking myself, for not being able to shoot fish in a barrel.

Hahah I get 'anxiety' looking at the Roll Call for another reason-- it is top heavy! Where are all the later in the month Roll Callers? Lot of people on the list for the first half of the month; the latter not so much! Plus we need someone to arrive on the 19th and 31st. It bugs me that those dates are empty. hahahahah ;)

Yes, the price is the same. If you want to add PH anytime during your trip, it will cost $57/ticket to add PH regardless the amount of days you have on your ticket, or if you have already used days and want to add it.

So if you bought a 5-day base ticket and want to add PH at the beginning, it will cost you $57/ticket.

If you bought a 5-day base ticket and used 2 days and decided you wanted to add PH, it will cost you $57/ticket.

Even Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are looking a little thin. :scared: It's the Dis though, we all learned it's best to go at the beginning of the month. :lmao:

Thanks for clarifying that - the CM I spoke to said I would be able to upgrade but the PH I currently have is at a discounted price as I bought advance tickets. Either way I can't see us hopping so I am happy to have $292 in my pocket :teeth:
