December 13, 2008 Western Caribbean!! Let's get acquainted!

My son has never chatted before. Not sure how he'd do with the typing, but it would be so cool, if he could manage.

Andrea, I think reservations start at 12:01 AM EST (the morning of 9/14). That would be 9:01 your time.

Thanks! I thought I wasn't up late, but I was getting confused between ADR's for WDW and the cruise-it all blends together!:confused3

One thing we all might want to think about - and I know there's plenty of time (unfortunately) - but we might want to think about whether we'd like to exchange fish-extender gifts for the kids. If you're unfamiliar with this, there's at least one thread to be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1774643. My son would really love this. We wouldn't have to do anything fancy.

We did this on our last cruise, but we did door magnets for each other. We all found something that represented where we were from.
Someone else here mentioned a "drinks around the world" idea where we all go room to room enjoying different drinks (or something like that it's been awhile since I read the post!)

I would be up for anything (as long as I don't have to organize it!)

We're still here!
I am competing with DD,DS, and DH for this computer now... we are a 3 iPod family, I think we may have to add a computer!
It has been *HOT* here! Like 104-106!
It was that hot in Las Vegas when we were there but everywhere is air conditioned. We don't have air since we only have a few days of really hot weather a year... it just came a bit early this year.
So, haven't done much of anything!

Audrey- I have the same concerns about our DS7... that he won't want to go to the club when we have Palo or something. Fortunately my DD11 is a great big sis and can take him to the pool or a movie. You should be sure and let us know when your spa and Palo ressies are and we can make sure the boys are together in the club or at a movie or something with my DD!

I'm here, too. Since I'm new here, I wasn't sure how often people usually post. I didn't want to appear too eager and uncool. LOL!

I live in FL, so central air is the norm, even in the lower priced housing (which is where my family is right now, unfort., since we purchased as a young family in our 20s, and now we're stuck until the housing market improves).

My husband and I are both from the North, along with 98% of Florida, and we seldom had air conditioning growing up. My bedroom was formerly the *attic* of our house, and I only remember the box unit being propped in my window a few Julys. LOL! But only the wealthier families had central air up there at that time.

Now, Dh and I are hooked. We lost power several times during the 2004 hurricanes and everyone down here was just hot and mean. I sat on the porch at night fanning myself, like some Southern belle, and the only thing that cheered me up was that I could call myself a "Southern belle."

Marcy - It would probably help my son a lot to have a club buddy. I briefly considered throwing our beeper off the ship, or at least hiding it while we're at Palo, but I guess that might be a little rude and extreme. LOL! I just hope he doesn't realize we have a beeper, though, or he'll want to page us just because he'll think it's cool that he can. It was the same thing when he learned to use the phone. He wanted to call our cells 100 times a day. Plus, he's SO afraid that we're doing something really, really cool when we leave him with a sitter. We have to tell him over & over that adult fun is really, really lame and we'd never go anywhere fun on our own, anyway.

Hello everyone, I have been away for a couple weeks so I thought I might check in and see how everyone is doing.

Welcome aleickwort! We have family in Ocala.

I just wanted to chime in on the fish extender idea or magnet exchange. We did the magnet exchange on our last cruise and it was alot of fun. I like the fish extender idea also and the fact of exchanging little gifts. My son would probably enjoy that...LOL

If yas decide on something we are definitely in on participating. Hope you all are having a good summer.

evening all!! We just got back from vacation and I need another one lol

I am all in for the extender idea, let me know!!

Is anyone else thinking of doing the dolphin discovery in Cozumel? I found a promotional code for 10% off if you book 10 or more people at the same time (directly through the company). I have 5 already in my family, I only need 5 more if anyone is interested let me know!

Thats the one we are looking at doing Andrea, my kids are free though so I think that would only be two more. Let me know!!

Great, we only need a few more! Once we get enough people I will get ideas on times and if people want to do the experience or swim.

Hello!

Finally we are having the great summer weather this area is known for. I am enjoying most of it from my backyard this year, as the "stay-cation" is the "in" thing to do now. Fortunately, our backyard is finally spiffed up the way we like.

My DD11 is having trouble getting on the Jrs cruise meets thread due to her being honest about her age... I printed out and mailed in the permission form to the DIS people, but it still hasn't worked. I am not sure who to contact....
Maybe she should just start from scratch and lie about her age! I wouldn't usually suggest this, but DIS is making it way to difficult on us.

Looks like my "girls only" cruise on Carnival for October is a NO-go. Bummer. I am sure, though, that after Disney, I would find fault around every corner on Carnival!

Hey-- anyone else hoping to rebook onboard in order to push it to when the new ships are out? I am thinking about it, however, we are talking a $1000 deposit! ouch.
As the kids get older, I have to admit that Royal Carib. and their variety of ships look intriguing!

So, what else...
Sorry Andrea, we are doing our dolphin thing at Discovery Cove on dec 11 before the cruise, so are not looking at any excursions in Cozumel at this point. We definitely want to snorkel at Grand Cayman, and DD11 and I are going to jet ski ("eco tour?") at CC, but that is it. Hope you round out your 10 people for the discount!

later!
Marcy

No worries about the Dolphins, our neighbors are thinking of joining us and that would be enough people. We are also looking at the native way 3 hr tour to stingray city, coral gardens and star fish reef- it's $35 for adults, $25 for kids if we get a group of 10. We have 6 already in our family, so we only need 4 more. They pick up form the cruise port and drop you off there or 7 mile beach when you are done.
Let me know if this is something you are interested in and I will coordinate it.

Our weather has been really weird. Thunderstorms and 90 degrees last night!

After everything here that I read about kids not getting on I just used my birthdate for them and I monitor them very closely.....

Hello everyone! Can I please join your group!? :) We are going on our first Disney Cruise and could not be more excited! It will be myself (Tracy), DH (Bill), and our DS who will be 26 months. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! :thumbsup2

Tracy where in PA are you? I have family in Beaver Falls & surrounding areas...

woohoo theres life here! lol

sorry we have had a rotten week, our pups ended up with parvo, and even though they have had their vaccines the vet said the other vet shouldnt have titered them to make sure they were immune, irregardless, we lost Minnie thursday morning and Eeyore is still in the hospital. Katie took it so hard, she just couldnt understand why minnie is gone and why we she cant have Eeyore home right now...poor babies are only 15 weeks old....

Sorry about the no go cruise Marcy! At least you still have Dec!

We are finally getting closer, I bet time will fly now!

hugs all~~L

Hi everyone!! DH and I will be on this cruise, and I've been silently following along with your posts. I thought I saw one saying that if there were 10 people booking a Native Way Stingray Sandbar, Coral Gardens, and Star Fish Snorkel Tour in Grand Cayman they offer a $5 discount. I can't find it now, so maybe I am making this up?? :confused3 We are doing this tour, so if I am remembering correctly, count us in!

I'll take more info on a group booking for GC snorkeling too...
Which is best and how do they differ? We just want to snorkel and go to the stingray city place... preferably not an all day thing...

Hey, OT, but we finally saw WALL-E today... were your kids as disturbed by the premise of this movie as mine? DD11 wondered if Al Gore had something to do with this one! :lmao:
It was cute and Pixar's animation is the best, but it sure could have been funnier... like play up the "malfunctioning" robots more? I want to see it again to catch more of the details and subtleties, but I am thinking it is my least favorite Pixar movie to date.

MOMTOCUTESTDOGEVER--- welcome!! Yes your dog is adorable. Looks like a teddy bear. We have a couple cuties, fluffy lap dogs, since at least 2 of us are allergic to cats.

Here is the family... sorry this pic came out so big! Photobucket is not cooperating with me today!
