I'm here, too. Since I'm new here, I wasn't sure how often people usually post. I didn't want to appear too eager and uncool. LOL!
I live in FL, so central air is the norm, even in the lower priced housing (which is where my family is right now, unfort., since we purchased as a young family in our 20s, and now we're stuck until the housing market improves).
My husband and I are both from the North, along with 98% of Florida, and we seldom had air conditioning growing up. My bedroom was formerly the *attic* of our house, and I only remember the box unit being propped in my window a few Julys. LOL! But only the wealthier families had central air up there at that time.
Now, Dh and I are hooked. We lost power several times during the 2004 hurricanes and everyone down here was just hot and mean. I sat on the porch at night fanning myself, like some Southern belle, and the only thing that cheered me up was that I could call myself a "Southern belle."
Marcy - It would probably help my son a lot to have a club buddy. I briefly considered throwing our beeper off the ship, or at least hiding it while we're at Palo, but I guess that might be a little rude and extreme. LOL! I just hope he doesn't realize we have a beeper, though, or he'll want to page us just because he'll think it's cool that he can. It was the same thing when he learned to use the phone. He wanted to call our cells 100 times a day. Plus, he's SO afraid that we're doing something really, really cool when we leave him with a sitter. We have to tell him over & over that adult fun is really, really lame and we'd never go anywhere fun on our own, anyway.
