I thought it was very touching that Jonathan was there for the boys.

So sad! I felt so bad for his son trying to decide whether or not to go out or to go be with his dad. He knew what Phil would want him to to do but I was glad to see him go be with his dad and brother.
It was obvious how much Phil was respected by the other captains by the way they reacted to the news. It was definitely raw and real!
It really was. He thought he needed a vacation, but his angel clearly had work for him to do off the ship. I hadn't heard anything about him being in Anchorage before they showed him taking off, so I had hoped that Andy would be able to catch him. Its always so hard to tell because they don't have a time line shown on screen.
Good NY Times article on Phil and Deadliest Catch:

At first I had forgotten that Jonathon left. I was thinking that maybe he would go and captain the Cornelia Marie. My guess is that he took a small plane from the port to a major city to catch another flight and that might be why he was in Anchorage.
I was kind of surprised that we didn't see Josh calling any family members. It just shows you how close the other crews are to each other- family.
Has anyone heard how Jake is doing with his addiction?
Very sad episode.
I just read the article. I didn't realize that their mother had died. I think that it will be very emotional to watch next season when the rest of his ashes are spread at sea.
If you're referencing the mother mentioned in the article, I believe they mean Captain Phil's mom. Not sure where the boys' mom is.

Yes, the above article talks about Captain Phil's mom.
I read something about one of the service/memorials that mentioned the boys mom being there.
I also read Phil's obituary and it mentions his children, including an older daughter:

Oh man, the tears are flowing...again.
Seeing Johnathan break down....wow....and I didn't care for him that much. I do now...the way he stepped up for those boys, my opinion has changed.
