Ah, back to being pitch dark while driving into work in the morning. I was actually making some headway with some light until DST showed up.

I've got an engineering question for you fellas. My 3rd grade son has a school project where the object is to make a water bottle roll down a ramp as slowly as possible, while still continuing to move forward. We can modify the bottle inside and out, but the shape must remain the same. I was thinking about glueing some shag carpet to the outside to create more friction. Any other ideas?

Does filling the bottle partially with water slow it down? Not an engineer, I am an IT dude, with a MBA, so watch out for any type of advice on engineering from me. But I think if I get the jist from my wife, who is the Chemist, the inertia of the bottle is decreased by the water, or something like that. She said not to fill the bottle all the way up with water. <shrug>

I need to remember to put in a bracket this year. So you guys can all laugh at me. This week is always the first week of the year that I start paying attention to college basketball. I don't think I could name a single player on any team.

Actually Pi day but I prefer to call it Pie day.

Hmm...Can you do anything to the ramp at all, or does that remain fixed as far as the angle/surface goes? I like the carpet idea. I might think about adding some bumps or some kind of shape that would produce some drag and resistance to movement. It would probably take some trial and error to find one that wouldn't completely stop forward motion.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Just need to get through the week and then on Saturday me & DS head up to Chicago for our guys Blackhawks trip. We will take in 2 games and hit the sights during the days. I was pretty good with it being light out later last night but that pitch black this a.m. when I woke up was annoying.

On that matter, with your DCL knowledge, is it better to eat the first seating or second seating? I doubt we will get to a cruise in the next 10 years, but I'll out in on file for later.

We like the second seating so that we have more time to enjoy excursions or afternoon time rather than heading back to the room for showers & clean up. Some say you have to do this anyway for the shows but the shows are only 3 of the 7 nights, and in that case we like to see the show and then go to dinner. Also, worried that if we had first sitting we would be full / tired and not want to see the shows.

So I was listening to one of the Pod Casts I like, and they did a kind of cool thing. They called it the 'Tech check' and all the hosts went over what they bring to Disney and what they bring into the park vs what they leave in the room.

It got me thinking about what I need to bring, and what everyone else brings with them that are must haves.

A little busy at work, but I will post my list of things in a little bit, but what does everyone else bring along with them?

Happy Monday morning. Spring Break for means an enjoyable time at home.. The dds school break is in a couple weeks. Played tennis this AM, laundry now, and some grocery shopping. I got this stay at home thing down.

I hear ya on the time change. I can't believe we still have to change the clock.

What type of bottle? Is it light enough that filling it with helium would make a difference? Then, you could suck in the extra helium and talk funny. Or, use some glue on the outside to give it an uneven roll. But, I'm not an engineer, I just stayed at a Holiday Inn.....

Don't bother. I have the winning bracket with UK winning it all. Well, I always have UK winning it all.

Thanks. That's what I read. We usually eat earlier in the day, which was why i asked. But, it makes sense from the time/ show perspective.

I only bring my cell phone and wallet. I absolutely hate the Magic Bands, as I still have to show my DVC card, TiW card, etc. I was thrilled when the dds were old enough to ditch the stroller.

One thing they pointed out was Bob Cummings (one of the hosts) was caught live, on a national broadcast, making out with a chorus girl. it is around the 41 minute mark. One of the many hilarious goofs that went on that day.

First you need to build a flux capacitor then acquire enough plutonium to create 1.21 jigowatts. As a Political Science major that's the best I can do.

Got my picks in. Mostly based on hoping for SUcks to surprise me and Puke to choke. Warm day and T-storms popping up. Motivation is completely gone. Don't know what has happened to the day but I don't have much to show for it.

We gutted our extra bathroom and changed the layout. I am cheap(well I like to save to go to Disney, so too cheap to hire someone), so I have been doing all the work. We ripped everything down to the studs, took out the tub and replumed and rewired the whole bathroom.

Just finished up moving the sink, putting in a second sink, pulling out the tub/shower and making it just a shower. Oh, and moved the Toilet.

So now, just have to finish the drywall, just taping and mudding and then I turn it over to the wife to paint it.

The put in the last of the fixtures and new flooring and done.

It has taken me almost 3 years, so I am glad we have 2 other bathrooms.

Whoa! That's a lot of work. Good for you for doing it on your own. Now... we gotta talk about that 3 year pace, though.

I like the idea to fill it partially with water. I would even go further and modify the inside of the bottle with baffles that obstruct the water movement. That should slow it down some more. Oh... and then there's always the option to add honey to the outside!

Actually found one idea that adds honey to the inside - along with a heavy steel ball. The ball will force the bottle to roll down until the honey sticks to the ball, dragging it back up the backside of the bottle. It will hang there until the honey lets it slide back down, taking the bottle with it for another half turn or so. The bottle rolls down in fits and starts, but it takes a while to make it down.

I was wondering if filling it half full with pebbles of something like dried beans wouldn't also cause it to move in fits and starts.

Looks like you have some good ideas already. I wonder if you try changing the shape of the bottle from round to something with flat sides. I'm thinking of popsicle sticks (or cut up pieces of them) taped to the bottle to give it flat surfaces. Sort of like a hexagon or octagon in cross-section. Might have to play with the length of stick to get the bottle to roll before bringing up on the flat side again. The water or honey inside would help it "get over the hump".
