DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Remember your first car accident? Of course you do.
DD18s BF was over yesterday. Fed him supper then he headed home... about 45 minutes out of town. DW always tells him to text us when he gets there so we know he got home safely. Instead we get a text that he's in the ditch. Drive out there and holy crap! It's a skating rink out there! No wonder he spun off the road. Good news is, he's fine, but pretty shaken up. Granted it's a bit unnerving to be going down a highway at 60mph... backwards. Also good news, car slid off in the shallow snow and doesn't look like there's any damage other than two flats.

Guess who stayed the night?
Glad everyone is ok. I was 16, I was too busy looking at the girl walking on the side walk and never seen the guy in the vw Rabit stop in front of me to turn left.lol I nailed that little golf cart! Lol I had a olds cutlass supreme, two door, you needed a ladder to get into the trunk I had the rear end lifted so high. Lol.
Not a scratch on the olds, his golf cart didn't fare as well. Lol

That is an excellent excuse for getting in an accident.

Not a scratch on the olds, his golf cart didn't fare as well. Lol

And yet. I get that cars today are wayyyyy safer... but it would be nice to be able to hit a feather without having to replace the entire front (or rear... whatever) bumper.

Well, they're both 18, so I suppose if they're gonna do it, there's not much I can really say about it.
Now.... where's that shotgun???
I know it's coming but I'm not looking forward to the day when I have no say. My oldest is 16, so I still have a couple years...

Yea, I remember. Plowed my mother's Pontiac Le Mans into a beat up station wagon trying to make left turn out of the grocery store. All she kept yelling about were broken eggs. I was worried about the broken neck my dad was going to give me when I got home. He was pretty good about it and it taught me how to deal with it when Crash had her two accidents.

Glad he made it out OK, that is the important part.

Good to hear nobody hurt. Good luck with that overnight thing - been there, done that, do that...................

Most of us more seasoned dads have been there, done that.
Your day is coming my friend :rotfl2:

And it is going to be fun watching from the sidelines.

Yes, DW doesn't seem to have an issue with it. I just figure since I never had it that easy, then I should make them work for it as well. :furious:

Trust me, it is a lot easier in college than it is in my house.

Well, they're both 18, so I suppose if they're gonna do it, there's not much I can really say about it.

Mine is 22 and there is not much you can do about it at that age. I trust that she was raised right and is mature enough to make the right decisions.

Pontiac Le Mans, another fine hunk of machinery. My dad had a Plymouth fury. When I was 15 he traded it on a Buick skylark hatchback. Lol. Didn't trust me in the Plymouth. Lol
I learned to drive on the Buick. Spun that around on the ice one night. The only thing I could think of was telling him I piled up his car. Lol I never did get a chance to tell him that one.
It's funny, when it does happen, you realize it's just a car. As long as everyone is ok, cars can be fix or replaced.

Morning Guys.

Reading through the last few posts makes me happy once again that I have a son and not a daughter.

:rotfl2:

Top O the Mornin Dads! On the Disney front has anyone seen Zootopia, hear its really good, and how about DCL gonna build 2 more ships?
That baby could fly. The first car I owned was a Ford Pinto, talk about a letdown.
Ouch! My first car was a '77 Mustang, sorry.
Morning Guys.

You should be, between the current topic and weddings........ As DDs upcoming wedding gets closer, I will need to vent a lot around here so in advance, my apologies.

'Morning all...

Of course, but it wasn’t quite as “exciting” as that young’en’s experience.
I merely side swiped a concrete post at the blinding speed of about three mph (but I was driving with my dad’s truck at the time, so…). All “incidents” to which I’ve been party since then were other folks doing.

Glad he made it through in one piece.

Locked him in the basement I'm guessing. ;)
I was wondering about that as well. :rotfl2:

Well that’s a valid reason if ever I’ve heard one.

Interesting… my “second” incident was when a late 70‘s Cutlass piled into the back of my car while I was just sitting at a red light waiting for it to turn. The kid was adjusting the radio on his momma’s newish car at the time (not near as good an excuse). Too bad for him I was driving my first car; a 66 Impala. The front of the Cutlass looked like so much ground meat, but we’re pretty sure it didn’t even disturb the dirt on the back bumper of my “tank”.

I know it's coming but I'm not looking forward to the day when I have no say. My oldest is 16, so I still have a couple years...
Relative time…
It’s gonn’a seem like no more than a couple of months (if not weeks).

I was worried about the broken neck my dad was going to give me when I got home. He was pretty good about it and it taught me how to deal with it when Crash had her two accidents.
That’s how my folks were when I scraped up Dad’s truck.
Ma was just relieved that it was no more than that. They basically said something like: well good, now that you’ve got that out of your system, we should be able to stop worrying so much about you.

That’s pretty much the way it went when my boy bashed the fender on my car against the side of our garage many years later. I remember I was home at the time and heard the crunch. Poked my head out the back door and saw what had gone on. He asked: “Is it bad?” My response: “Well, it’s not good…”

He’s been far more careful since.

Top O the Mornin Dads! On the Disney front has anyone seen Zootopia, hear its really good, and how about DCL gonna build 2 more ships?
Haven’t seen the film yet but I’d like to.

I did hear about DCL announcing two new ships.
I think there anticipating deliveries in 2021 and 2022 so it’ll be a while yet. Once they get up to six, I suspect that at least one of them will be spending a good deal of time in the Orient. That should make for some interesting itineraries; especially the transitioning ones.

Queue the theme from Jaws.

Ditto. Thought I was a gonner. They let me live.

Exactly. Some things can and cannot be replaced.

Ohhhh... Shut up.

Good point. No better teacher than experience.

He asked: “Is it bad?” My response: “Well, it’s not good…”

:lmao:

Spending the week driving to/from campus. That means 10 hour days for me. Grrrr.....

Well, they're both 18, so I suppose if they're gonna do it, there's not much I can really say about it.
Now.... where's that shotgun???

Just not in your house.

And yet. I get that cars today are wayyyyy safer... but it would be nice to be able to hit a feather without having to replace the entire front (or rear... whatever) bumper.

They don't have to be replaced. My car is now 12 years old and many things don't work on it, but I don't replace them.

We really don't have a say now. Just a lack of opportunity.

.

I tried to pass a car on the right after they had went out in the left hand lane. However, they made a really wide right turn. I learned to slow down - a bit.

Morning Guys.

Reading through the last few posts makes me happy once again that I have a son and not a daughter.

:rotfl2:

You have a perpetrator.

You should be, between the current topic and weddings........ As DDs upcoming wedding gets closer, I will need to vent a lot around here so in advance, my apologies.

There's no law yet you have to pay for the wedding.

There's no law yet you have to pay for the wedding.
I will let one of you guys go first with trying that one.............. There ain't a law but apparently there is social convention / tradition other wise known as BS. I remember my family paying for the bar / liquor back in the day. Today, the parents of the groom are listed as only a rehearsal dinner and that liquor falls into the brides family. Well the rehearsal is the day of the wedding at the event location so his parents are off the hook for a related dinner so you think they would pony up towards the liquor right. Nooooooooooooooo, not a peep, word,
squawk, nada, zippo out 'em to ante up in any way! See I told you guys I would be venting here ...........................

Yikes! Glad he was ok. Once I spun out on a snowy highway. Luckily no one was around, so we just pretended it was totally normal and went on our way.

And yet. I get that cars today are wayyyyy safer... but it would be nice to be able to hit a feather without having to replace the entire front (or rear... whatever) bumper.

::yes:: And $1,000 of electronic doodads.

The first car I owned was a Ford Pinto, talk about a letdown.

A Pinto! Wow, I never knew anyone who admitted to owning one.

You have a perpetrator.
 Clever...
I'll have to tell my young'en that he's been assigned a new gender description.

See I told you guys I would be venting here
Oh we understand, vent away.

Tell the kids that if they elope, you'll give them some the cash that would otherwise be vanishing into into thin air to use for student loans or future property down-payments. It could be considerably more economical.

I hate all the "conventions" myself. we paid for our own party out of pocket.
My bride amazed me in how far she could stretch a buck
(and in what things really weren't all that important to her)

They don't have to be replaced. My car is now 12 years old and many things don't work on it, but I don't replace them.

And the worst one is that nut behind the wheel.

:rolleyes1

::yes:: "Just checking the steering and suspension!"

::yes:: And $1,000 of electronic doodads.

There's a price to pay for convenience and "magic"

Thanks Cj and everyone. Here is the little man and me.

Congrats!! Looks nice and healthy.. and quiet ;)

Afternoon fellas! Short day in the office today. The "team" is headed to Top Golf for an afternoon of fun. It's overcast, cold and misty here in Norfolk, VA. Sure hope they have heaters in the driving bays. When I get home DW and one her friends are planning on watching Fuller House. I'm thinking I may just stay at Top Golf until late.

Mal!! How did you enjoy Topgolf? I've made it there, but haven't actually played yet. It was a 5 hour wait the one Saturday night we showed up. lol!
