DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I will let one of you guys go first with trying that one.............. There ain't a law but apparently there is social convention / tradition other wise known as BS. I remember my family paying for the bar / liquor back in the day. Today, the parents of the groom are listed as only a rehearsal dinner and that liquor falls into the brides family. Well the rehearsal is the day of the wedding at the event location so his parents are off the hook for a related dinner so you think they would pony up towards the liquor right. Nooooooooooooooo, not a peep, word,
squawk, nada, zippo out 'em to ante up in any way! See I told you guys I would be venting here ...........................

Hey, you got roped into this one. My inlaws didn't pay for our wedding, and my parents didn't pay for any rehearsal dinner. DW and I paid for it and the reception and it was a great party. And, we paid for the honeymoon at the Walt Disney World.

I've told my girls all along that if they want money or me to pay for something, then they have to go my way. Now, would I pay for a Disney wedding...... Hmmm......

And the worst one is that nut behind the wheel.

:rolleyes1
ic"

Good thing we can't replace that one yet. :lmao:

Briana is s.o.l. Lol. My parents paid for there own wedding and Tammy and I paid for our own. Tradition! Lol

I'm with you Dave. Looks like Mike got snookered. :rotfl:

Not like I'm the first Dad to give his DD a wedding. They ain't got a pot nor a window. I did seriously offer if she wanted cash rather than a wedding but she wants a wedding and so do I and SWMBO. The part that gets me though is I told the kids it's their marriage bit in the end it's DW and my wedding and we have veto powers when it comes to things. We are not doing anything that we cannot afford but the lack of stepping up to help with some part by his family does irk me. However, based on who is writing the checks, I have dug in on the other side has no say in things and we will be fair but their guest list number waits on our guest list number being completed first. Hate stuff like this but if it's mine and DWs party then we call the shots. It will be a special day for us I'm sure but as the Dad I do get to grouse a bit.

lol
It's not working. Lol

Top O the Mornin Dads! On the Disney front has anyone seen Zootopia, hear its really good,
I saw Zootopia over the weekend. I thought it was very good. A lot of decent jokes in it. The animation is impressive. The story is a bit heavy for kids to really understand completely, but I thought it was an interesting story. Somewhat predictable ending. But certainly worth a watch and it deserves the 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Having said all that, I don't think it should be labelled as an "instant classic" which I've seen some reviews call it.

Morning Men,

last day of work this week........well for me it is.

Have a good one?

Hey folks. A day off (so far. 50/50 chance for an Evening shift.) Trying to catch up on life and stuff.

Top O the Mornin Dads! This day in Disney history, 1946, A Knight for a Day was released starring the famous Fab Five Dad Goofy!

Enjoy the time off - doing anything special?

So something completely off topic. We are going back to Disney in August, staying at POR. I am thinking about picking up a new Camera. I am not a huge photographer, but the current point and click digital camera, while fine for birthday parties and other kids things, just does not meet my desires for Disney.

After our last trip, we will never go for long stays without Memory maker, so we will always get good pictures, so I can't really mess up anything.

Anyway, I know that some of you have to be awesome at the whole Picture taking thing, anyone have any recommendations? I would link to some Amazon camera's but I can't remember if linking to sites is okay to do here.

So anyone have any advice on Camera's? Or if there is already a topic on this, then link away. :)

Tomorrow is DS's birthday so we were surprising him with a trip to Toronto and a Raptors game.

You can get a pretty good entry level DSLR from Canon or Nikon for the price of a higher end point and shoot. They are pretty easy to learn and they give you more options than a simple point and shoot camera.

So around $ 200.00 is an acceptable price point for an entry level DSLR camera?

No the entry level bundle would probably be between $400 and $500 but that would most likely include a number of accessories.

Ah.. Okay, so not sure what the $ 200 on Amazon is then. I will have to research it some more.
Thanks for the information!

There are few cameras that look like DSLRs but they are not. The one you are looking at may be a mirrorless camera. I have never used on but there seems to be some good ones out there. They are lighter than a DSLR and some may offer inter-changeable lens.

anyone going to be in the World this fri through Tuesday???

You might want to check out the photography board.

I was going to say the same thing, but $200 won't be enough for a decent DSLR.
I would strongly recommend going to a good photo store, telling a clerk what your budget and wish list is and then trying out a few different cameras.
And then don't buy one.
Go home. Think about it, check the reviews on those cameras, see if they suggest something else, and then buy one.

Google self driving cars.

I can't afford one of those.

Grouse away. I'm just giving you grief. I'm sure I'll cross that bridge one day.
