DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Interesting read, however, nothing like that could happen here. Unfortunately, we can't figure out where to get the money to provide snow removal solutions like that. Maybe my 8 government bosses could have yet another meeting and try to determine cost savings.

It only makes sense to do something like that if there's a regular reoccurring need.
We wouldn't do that either, although we see our fair share of snow.
We do however have a huge fleet of snow removal equipment.
A few years back, Toronto was the laughing stock of the country because the Mayor called in the national guard to help after a little bit of snow fell. The rest of the country was like :sad2: "Really? Grab a shovel!"

I am done with this cold/flu. Had a relapse last night and did not sleep well. Bringing out the big guns now, beef stroganoff is cooking and will crack out the bourbon tonight.

Championship weekend today. The only team I don't despise is Arizona so they are guaranteed to lose. Would like to see a giant sinkhole swallow up the field in the Phats/Manning game just as they were about to kickoff.

Official tally was 8" of snow. Shoveled the aggregate driveway with DS today. Major PITA due to steep angle of driveway - a couple of Aleve and a cold beer.

Just measured 34", don't know the official yet...

If the total exceeds 30", stop counting and just write down "Holy crap!"

Newark Airport (closest measuring stick to Seton Hall) recorded 28.1 inches. The kid and her friends are out playing in the snow now. If she gets any pics of campus, I'll pass them along.

Hello gents! Another new guy here,

Welcome!

Mixing alcohol and pills is a great solution. :lmao:

Then the story could be, "A man in Florida (or Kentucky)..." Police and stupidity would be involved.

Well I know we did not get near what the east got, but our stuff froze over into ice rink streets again last night. Melting today, which of course is supposed to freeze over again tonight. Gonna be 60 here Friday / Saturday?.. Enjoy the games today and stay safe and warm for those on the road and dealing with the snow / ice.

Saw the numbers on the news and do have to laugh at how 8" shut my neck of the woods down. Stay safe sir.
I used to have to measure snow (when it fell) every hour (at a minimum)
If the total exceeds 30", stop counting and just write down "Holy crap!"
I hear ya!
Hello gents! Another new guy here, although a couple of you may have noticed me post on your TR before. I thought about becoming a DIS Dad for a while, mostly to get one of those shiny numbers that @pkondz and @afwdwfan are always flashing around. I mean, with those guys in the club, I figured there must be some pretty high membership standards! But I mustered up the courage and was brave enough to take the plunge. Drinks all around! What's the drink of choice around here? Beer and bourbon it seems. If I admit I like spiced rum does that disqualify me? Hmmm...how about if I admit I like princesses? Am I back in?

Anyway, on to the serious stuff, I'll tell you a little about myself. I grew up on Disney movies and TV shows. My first and only trip to the World as a child was in 1983. I think the bug hit on that very trip, but it was many years later before I returned, once I had found my princess (DW) and my step-DD (now almost 16). The three of us took our first trip on 2008. We were soon joined by another little lady, my DD who is now 8, and the four of us have had three trips to WDW since. We like to go about every 18 months, but for various reasons we don't have anything planned right now. :(

I live in Newfoundland, Canada. If you've never heard of it, look for it on Google maps (it is a real place, I promise :p). And if any of you are trying to pronounce it to yourself right now, do me a favour (yes, Canadian spelling - get used to it) and say it right, it's "Newfoundland, understand", as in rhymes with.

I travel a lot with work, so keeping up with disboards helps pass the time. Hopefully I'll be able to get to know some of you a little better. Looking forward to being part of the club!

It worked, slept good and no back ache this morning :confused3

Agree with you on Pats. I like Cam Newton and the way he plays QB.

Don't be confused. I told you it was a good idea.

Outside of the NFL turning WWE, I've liked the college game more this year. It may have to do with the QB option of running the ball.

I didn't get a chance to see much of the college game this year but I agree the QB option is fun to watch.

This game is over. Looks like Manning/Newton. 10-0

EDITED: How ugly is this going to get? 17-0

Ugly. Cardinals were a 2nd half team, but not enough against the Panthers. Cam looked great in running and throwing the ball. Definitely two different styles in the Superbowl.

One thing that kind of surprised me though, especially in the beginning of this thread, with all it's metrics, there's no one post that contains a link to each of the previous posts. So, if anyone is nerdy like me, here are all 33 previous threads.
Just gotta say "well done", Jessy! :thumbsup2
I don't know if I'll ever be able to get through it all, but for the "newest DIS Dad" like me, it's a great resource to have.

‘Morning all…
Hope those north and east of me are staying safe and digging out. The ice is pretty much off the roads here so we’re basically back to normal, but y’all took a good pounding storm wise.

Hah! I say all the time, I wish Cam Newton were a more despicable person so he'd be easier to hate. I don't hate many things, just the Panther's, Falcons, and the Cowgirls. As a Saint's fan, I feel it's not necessary to hate the Bucs since we've kinda owned 'em the last 15 years.
Always good to be true to one’s allegiances.

Ice here too gonna take another day or two for side roads to be passable.
More hilly there then here; hopefully the sun has melted off most of that nonsense by now.

Is that a metric unit of measure or one distinct to meteorology?
Either way, I can see it as being quite useful for comparative purposes.

Found this for all my eastern, snow bound DISdads.
It's an article on how Japan deals with heavy snow falls.
Interesting read…
Not something we’d ever consider, as we budget almost nothing down here for winter weather contingencies. Snow is rare; ice… a bit more common. The sun gets rid of both pretty quick for us though so it’s cheaper just to shut down for a day and let nature do the snow removal for us. Our problems arise when folks foolishly head out into that junk (although that’s often because their employers demanded it).

:welcome:

Admitting you have a problem is the first step.
There are no other steps…
We’re all busted here and have no intention what so ever of changing that fact.

did you bring the cod and Screech for these guys?
Now, I do like me some rum…
But the dead fish, that y’all can just keep for yourselves.

Historically speaking, I can’t see a down side to this philosophy.
Especially when I ignore history.

My DW and DD have been dealing with that same crud for a while now; it’s exhausting.
If not a cure, bourbon does sound like an excellent diversion.

See…
Now, you’re not supposed to say such things out loud.
It often guarantees their inevitability.

Darn! And here I was getting ready for a tattoo...
Go for it…
You won’t be the first.

We got far more ice with barely a dusting of actual snow.
It makes everything glisten right nice, but driving on it is just plain foolish (4x4 or no)
On the up side, it should warm up enough 'round here to melt the bulk of it off the roads by game time tomorrow.
I'd much rather drive on snow than ice. But driving on ice isn't horrible as long as you slow down and drive carefully.

And if you can keep all the other idiots off the road.

I'm sure the state's snowplow was probably busy clearing out around the stadium for the game yesterday, but has the rest of the state thawed out now?

Um... well, if you're here because you want to be like us then I'm not sure the rest of them will want you.

Welcome to the club, anyway!

I like Cam Newton and the way he plays QB.

Always been a Newton fan, he's fun to watch.
::yes:: I like the way he plays the game. He's fun to watch and he plays hard. I know his celebrations rub a lot of people the wrong way, but you can tell the guy is having fun. He doesn't seem to be doing it to taunt the other team, he's just having fun. Something the league could really use a little bit more of.

Apparently... a lot uglier.
I've never seen a team try so hard to lose.
That was bad... I'm kind of glad the Panthers won, but I wouldn't have been upset if Arizona had won either. I've got a lot of respect for Carson Palmer and the season he had after everything he's been through with injuries and being run out of Cincinnati. I just wish he would have played a better game rather than imploding like he did with all those picks.

Keeping idiots off the road is the basic problem.
It's better just to stay in and let natural Darwinian forces take care of them.

I'm pretty sure you're correct that NC has only one plow, and that's 100 percent more then we heave in SC.
But I figure they kept it up in Raleigh...
The sun and a few fans with shovels were more than enough to clear the field and roads for us here.

Um... well, if you're here because you want to be like us then I'm not sure the rest of them will want you.
Pbbbft... We've seen worse.
Bring it on.

I wouldn't mind if he'd tone it down a bit, but he does seem to be having fun.
I give Ron credit for just letting the guy be himself, and I give Cam credit for learning how to learn.
We'll see how long that can continue.

I do believe it won't be listed as one of Palmer's better days...

Happy Monday gentlemen! (I use this term loosely)

Can I ask an "on-topic" question real quick? (gasp!)

Tomorrow is my 60 day window for FP+ reservations for our Spring Break trip.

What time can I start making them? Midnight? 7am?

I forget every time it's time for me to make them!
