Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Prayers appreciated, boss wants to meet this morning but would not give me details. I defended myself in our annual reviews a couple weeks back and I'm pretty sure it did not sit well with him when I supported my side with email and text evidence.

Prayers.

Morning....now that the holiday is over, things can get back to a semblance of normalcy. Well at work at least, we still have 2 1/2 weeks without the girls, so strangely quiet around here.:lmao:
:

Since the girls are gone, would you say 'strangely' quiet or 'blissfully, wonderfully, superbly, awesomely, magnificently, terrifically' quiet? :lmao:

When my two dds are home, it is :mic:, and I am :crazy2:

‘Morning all…
Welcome to the Wednesday that’s actually a Thursday for a lot of us.
Either way, we’re through the better part of the week now.

As for the folks that were parting on July 1st, I hope y’all had a blast.

My dentist and I will be good friends for a while. I hear she is putting a deposit at Golden Oaks based on what it is going to cost.

Hate that you have to deal with so many issues here. Having folks poke, claw and use industrial grade demolition equipment against ones teeth is not an experience that I’d place under the heading of good. The expense then just adds to the potential pain. Dentist talk always brings a particular quote to my mind…

Is it safe? :scared:

It was fun while it lasted. Now who to root for?

Good question. All I know is that everyone in the country owes Tim Howard a beer or two.

The team did far better than expected in any case so they’ve much to be proud of.
Now it’s back to work.

Thanks, we didn't get anything last night. The night before though the winds ripped off siding on one side of the house. We had 11 houses in the area lose trees in their front yard. When I came home it looked really different not seeing those.

Sorry to hear about the damage. May the meeting with management be better than anticipated.
Folks have been known to behave right unreasonable when it comes to acquiring and maintaining “power”.
It is a very addictive drug. May that not be the case here.

Speaking of, I think I get my annual PA today. Hope she forgot all those times I flipped out :rotfl2:

Lowered estrogen levels have been known to create moments of calm and serenity.
Enjoy it for now. If “PA” means Pay Adjustment… then congratulations on that as well. :thumbsup2

I haven’t seen one of those mythical beasts since 2007. :sad2:

Happy Wednesday guys!

Day 3: Still no call into jury duty. They did start calling people in, but only numbers 2-42. I'm 124. Something really big would have to happen tomorrow for me to get called in.

Do share. Any plan for more Disney time is worth considering.
I agree with the others, we need details here.

Specific trip details are still sketchy, but the “unsmart” methodology is in place.

Back in the fall, we implemented a policy of tucking any extra cash or unexpected income into something akin to a “Disney Piggy Bank”; physically off the books and away from the sight of any potential bills. We just ignore whatever went in there. If I sold a piece of gear or old furniture or the like then the proceeds would be converted to cash and tucked away. Extra gig income or monies made outside of work or say from a yard sale; same thing. Cash from birthdays or Christmas; away it want. We sat down the other day and counted it up for the first time and were shocked to realize that we’d already put away better than a grand in cash. Combine that with our normal saving for unexpected expenses and regular vacation funds and it’s looking like we “could” justify an interesting trip. Especially as we’re not really doing anything this year. Now here’s the “unsmart” part of the equation: what I should do with that extra cash is pay it toward tuition expenses. But we’ve talked ourselves into keeping it off the books for now and continuing to toss all extra funds into that cookie jar. If we do this right we should be able to get back into the world of Disney and potential back onto a ship next May. We also have a long range plan of trying to head out to the west coast in 2017 after the boy graduates. The same payment method will be implemented for that and much could change between here and there though. Needless to say, nothing is guaranteed or finalized here.

Congrats on having stashed away so much. That doesn't seem too unsmart to me. In terms of tuition unfortunately that amount of money will just be a drop in the bucket and will have a minimal impact on student loan debt upon exiting college. At the same time you have a very finite amount of time left with your son in this state. Post college your relationship will likely change in that he'll be less likely to vacation with you. If it were me, I'd think that the family vacation would be more meaningful.

Two hours at work and the network is finally up. One IT guy was fired last week and the other is on vacation. Time to start my day working.

So, you have a responsible, legal plan. I was hoping for something along the line of sneaking in and living in the treehouse at MK, living in CJ's front yard in a camper, or using Barry's credit card to pay for the trip. :lmao:

Thanks Barry! It's the beer. It never leads me wrong, and always helps me think better!

It helps nearly all of us think better.
Heck, if it weren’t for the daily rum rations and nightly meetings at the pubs, we wouldn’t have either the Declaration of Independence or The Constitution. I say we pick a random day… Say, like this Friday… And spend it imbibing heavily so that we can better know the state of mind that lead our Founding Fathers to such greatness.

And that is the basses for our un-wise-ness. That and pure selfishness on our part but I digress…
If he wants to work in his chosen field, he’ll have to be very mobile and not often available to hang around with mom and dad. We’ll pay the debts off one way or another, but experiences missed are memories that can’t be cherished. And memories are the only thing that another person cannot take from you.

Took me a while to learn that one.

Oh, and good to hear from you sir.
Hope you are doing well these days.

I said it was un-smart, not questionable :rotfl2:
But I must say I’m particularly enamored of that last one in your list there.
Wonder how I could gain access to that sixteen digit number?

Never heard of it. :confused3

We just started a new fiscal year at the state. No money for raises, of course. But thank goodness, we were able to bail out the casinos.:thumbsup2

If I were you, I'd be watching Evan and Ryder like a hawk.

Sounds like a pretty darn clever plan to me. If you had put this money into the regular funds, sounds like it eventually would have been spent on something like filling up the car with gas, buying milk, bread and eggs before a snowstorm, or stocking up on 20 gallons of mustard at Costco. It most likely would not have been used for tuition. Therefore, it's ok to use it for Disney. :thumbsup2

It's always hard to find the balance between wise saving/future planning and enjoying life in the moment.

Who is this "Barry" that you speak of?

You could start guessing. I'll tell you if you get it right.

We’re speaking of a different Barry, so how would you know if I get it right ;)

Besides, there are hackers in Russia and China that already have your CC numbers (and mine for that matter), so it would be more efficient for me to buy the number from one of them.
It‘d cost me more than I could earn in a life time, but still

The NSA probably has it too. You could probably get it through a Freedom of Information Act request.

AAAARRRGGGG!

Just called into DVC member services to buy my Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets for 10/21. Realized that the event is 6 days after my daughter's 10th birthday. She's now an adult.:faint:

Doesn't seem so unsmart to me. Actually seems rather intelligent. Especially for you. :rotfl2:

.

Barry Smith, from accounting.

CJ has the credit card #. Just don't tell Barry.

I vote spend on trip because Ryan's onto something.

My plan, whether or not it actually works, will to have house paid off in 6 years and pay for both girls' college. My oldest will be 18 then. My parents deposited some money for their education when they were first born in ESA/ mutual fund for them, and if they go to my university, tuition is currently free.

So, the plan is for them to go debt free. If that plan doesn't work, then it's up to my dds to figure it out. And, that's what I tell them. DW and I both agreed that the $ first gets budgeted to our retirement and then WDW vacation.
