DDA Chapter 8

Happy planning, Tia!

Karen, our pet sitter comes to our house. She takes care of the cats & the goldfish, she waters our plants, she brings our mail in. Maybe you could find someone like that?

4th grade slow? I worry about it. I can't seem to effectively teach him. Bill has been trying to work him...he does much better than I do. but Chris gets so frustrated

Now that makes sense. I can understand that reasoning. Becky was a very slow learner on tying her shoes. I didn't think she would ever learn! It drove me crazy.

hang in there....try to decompress as much as you can

I'm worn out. So much is going on at work and others aren't dealing with things in a timely fashion so it ends up being a mess for the staff. Friday I had to escalate two serious issues which delayed a project for this week and will hopefully get things completed in time so that the project next week isn't postponed. I came home and slept for two hours. It was pure and simple emotional exhaustion.

My sister finally taught her how to tie them (this is the sister that is going with us to Disney). She was 8 or 9. I don't remember what grade she was in. Chuck & I just couldn't do it. I don't know what it was that my sister did different but it worked. Becky says she taught her a song (not the bunny one) but doesn't remember the details. Katrina learned to ride her bike at day care. Becky learned from my brother (the one in Japan). There were just some things that our kids would not learn from us.

Vicki - I hope things get sorted out for you at work!

Kristine - Christopher will get it. Will he do other fine motor exercises to make his fingers stronger? You can probably find some online. Did he crawl much as a baby? Some studies have shown that kids can benefit from crawling if they didn't crawl much as babies - it strengthens their shoulders, arms, etc, and improves their fine motor.

I'm off to bed. I have to drive to Lansing yet again. I can't wait until I get in the car to head to Green Bay on the 5th. At that point, I am letting all the worries go. I have to say relaxing and letting go isn't easy for me and the only place I've ever been able to do this for is Disney.

I worked at least every other day while I was at Girl Scout camp even. I would dial up after the girls went to bed at night. It drove my staff and boss nuts. They wanted me to relax. They are happy that I've found Disney even though they tease me relentlessly for my obsession. :lmao:

Yes, he can, but that's beside the point.:rotfl2:

DS doesn't like to tie his shoes, but the shoes he wears to school do have ties. The Keens that don't have to be tied (they have elastic laces that you tighten with a toggle thing) are the ones the other kids teased him about so he will only wear them at home. DH has teased DS about velcro shoes enough that he won't wear them, so we are always looking for some sort of slip-on shoe that doesn't look babyish.

Merrels are good slip on shoes and don't look too babyish :thumbsup2

Please get some sleep. We need you healthy for your trip

I've learned that there are 2 ways to tie shoes. I've always done the around the thumb thing, but my boys were able to learn the double loop method a lot easier. I had never seen it done until we were being fitted for shoes one day and the salesperson did it the other way.

I think Chuck now does the double loop thing. At least he ties his shoes differently than the standard that I learned. He likes it because it stays tied better. I don't know how to do it that way.

Kristine, you might check it out (I'll get details from Chuck if you want) as sometimes kids brains work differently so another way clicks with them.

I went to middle school with a boy who used the 2 loop method. I had never seen anyone tie shoes that way before.

Deb - We'll have to look at some Merrells. DS prefers New Balance, but they are getting hard to find. The Keens are great shoes, but the idiots at his school wear those big gangster shoes so of course they think Keens are goofy. I think I have learned my lesson about buying him Teva sandals. He refuses to wear them. They sit in the closet until he outgrows them. When he says he won't wear a certain pair of shoes he is dead serious.

Feel better, Bernadette!:wizard:

Bernadette-feel better soon!!

:wizard: :wizard: Feel Better. Sleep would definitely be a plus:thumbsup2

Thanks! I did about 3 photos on photopass and I'm ready for bed now! I found a new Flower & Garden Fest border so I did add that to a few photos I thought I was done with. Only 80 more to go......

Well, I guess I need to head to bed. Actually, Terra needs to head to bed so I'm going to go read and ponder Sept. Hopefully I'll have an inkling what I want to do by morning so that I can talk to Chanon about any needed changes. Have a good night everyone!
Happy planning!

I have to go to the dentist tomorrow. I don't like to have my teeth worked on.
Hopefully it will go well and I won't be there for the full 2 hours they blocked off for me!

All this talking of packing made me realize that I need to get going since Katie and I leave Sunday night. I've spent the last few days going through clothes, and deciding what to take. Does that count? Guess I'll drag the suitcase out tomorrow and try to fit it all in one. We're only going to be gone for 10 days, so I'm trying to pack about 5 pairs of pants and then double the number of tops to make it easier. One nice outfit to wear at the theater, and that should do it!

My cousin put together our itinerary and boy does she have lots for us to do. Let's just say our days are packed. She even managed to work in a day trip to Stratford upon Avon. That was something Katie really wanted to do, so I'm glad it got worked in. I've got the passports ready, travel documents ready, plane tickets printed, journal ready, camera almost ready (got to empty the card and make sure the other 2 are set to go), ipod almost ready for the flight (need to put a few videos on there for Katie). Whew! I'm going to need a vacation from getting ready to go on vacation!

I will check it out...thanks!

he has poor motor control in his hands.....so he will not practice at all. He needs to effectively at least know how to do it...makes for a challenge for soccer

I so understand!! Abi does/did to. She (and I) didn't tie shoes until the middle of second grade. It is easier for girls though...most girls shoes are slip ons!!

It took somebody outside of mom and dad showing Abi how to do it. Her OT did in a week what we had been trying for a long time. Abi still doesn't tie "conventionally" but neither do I. They stay tied and she doesn't trip over them...that's all that really matters!!

When I was in elementary school gym class they gave us ropes that were about 1/2 an inch thick. We would sit on the ground put the rope under our thighs and practice tying our bows for shoes. They also had us make two loops to tie our shoes, instead of looping one side and then wrapping around and looping in through the hole. The big rope is much easier to handle then tiny shoe laces.

Then you can work down to the smaller shoe lace size.

Will they wear Vans slip ons??

I disliked tying shoes, as I disliked and still dislike having to wear them. My parents are very much wear a pair of shoes from the time your foot hits the floor until you go to bed. Whether it is a slipper or shoes. I would rather go barefoot, no socks or shoes for me please.

I love Stratford:lovestruc :lovestruc. You sound ready to me!!!

Did I tell you all my luggage went to Ireland??:confused3

One of my volunteers borrowed one of my big pieces for her recent 10 day trip.

My luggage gets out more than me!!:rotfl:
