DDA Chapter 23

Those are some very creative costumes! I love it.

They were really great! Three year olds are too darn cute anyway, and then they dress up. And it's so fun to hear them talking to each other about their costumes. The Steve from Blues Clues was really easy. They just used a striped, long-sleeve polo that they already had and khakis. He wore a name tag that said, "Hi! I'm Steve" and carried a stuffed Blue. They drew a face on a pail and shovel, and he's going to use the pail as his treat container. On Halloween, he won't have to carry the stuffed Blue, because his baby brother is going to be dressed as Blue.

Remember when I wasn't sure about teaching preschool again? I love it! I'll probably have doubts next summer/September, but hopefully I'll remember how well it goes after a month or so. (And after the two kids with the most annoying parents drop out. ;)) I do need some more hours, though. Is it wrong to hope that the other teacher (not my co-teacher) decides that she'd rather do something else?

so the Maui Wowi position has been reposted on Craig's List...less than 2 weeks after they supposedly had somebody who was a better fit. I sent an e-mail saying that I would love to be reconsidered for the position and if not what I could I have done differently to be their first choice.

Hmmmm....that is strange. Good for you for going after it again! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I am glad he found a house!! He obviously had some drifting....it was only up to my knees when I had to go desnow our satellite dish. :rotfl2:

Stay warm. I hope you stocked up on supplies. Are ya'll still located in Littleton? Since my December 2006 trip I haven't been back out there. They met us at the beach for a week July 2008. That was fun.

Kathrin's airfare is booked for our family trip! :yay:

And, I have a room mate for the first 2 nights of my stay. Another DISer had planned to be at WDW for a long weekend when we are there and had to cancel her trip unexpectedly. I had the room, she had the AP and an AirTran credit, so her trip is back on! :)

You are so sweet Elin :goodvibes

oh please....this is nothing....but yes I do have supplies...school should hopefully back on tomorrow...if it's not it seriously wrecks the weekend plans (last football game of the regular season so senior night....doing Thriller (appropriately:rotfl2:) and than band lock in at the High School)

For those of you who haven't ever seen 20 inches of snow (and it's still coming down):

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2040188&id=1445155131&l=e57821a320

Wow, something to look forward too. We've had that much snow for Halloween before, then again we've trick or treated in T-shirts so you never know. It will be down around freezing for us the next few nights and potentally we'll get rain to boot.

The Official Packing Rules state you must be packed in full a minimum of 12 days prior to departure. If Heidi likes to pack 40 days ahead, more power to her! :rotfl2:

I am not even thinking about packing yet. Today is our 35 day mark.

Our trip is over 8 months away and I already have most of the outfits set aside. I've been buying things as they've come on clearance and we are already in great shape. I'm also planning to give trip items as Christmas presents. I may do soda cards for the ship as Easter gifts :goodvibes I've obviously got nothing better to do than plan (and Pack ;))

Yay!

Our parent-teacher conference days are so drawn out. Yesterday was the first, and we had our conference with Miles teacher. Everything is going great except he is "resistant to writing." He still has a 94 in writing, so it isn't horrible, but we need to find a way to get him to write more. She recommended having him write in a journal every night. His teacher is terrific, but I feel so OLD around her!

It's a boy thing. Nick and Hunter both had the same "problem", but they are great writers now. We eventually put a bunch of ideas in a hat and when they couldn't come up with something to write about they would draw from the hat.

Thanks! Matthew seems to really be enjoying it. He is looking forward to cross country being over, because practice takes a lot of time and energy. It sounds like the coach really works them hard. He thinks that they will probably continue running after the season is done (last race is Halloween), but it shouldn't be as intense or take as much time. He is a little bored with classes, since he has taken most of them before, and he hopes to get out of taking chem lab next semester to save another 3+ hours a week. He is also considering changing his major from Bioprocess Engineering to Polymer Chemistry. Bioprocess Engineering sounds great, but I guess it's very much tied to the paper process industry. There is too much industry focus for him. But who knows what he'll decide. They go in for advising in a couple of weeks to make next semester's schedule, so he'll be able to talk to his advisor then. We'll see him for 5 days at Thanksgiving, and I can't wait! I saw him run two weeks ago, but I didn't really get to talk to him much, since he was with the team. We haven't really seen him since Labor Day.

I'm glad that Matthew is doing well. I'm sure you will have lots of catching up to do over Thanksgiving.

I tend to agree with the "boy" thing...I also think it's kind of a "laziness" thing with him. They write first, and when they are done, they are allowed to read. Well, he wants to get to the reading part, so he doesn't work too long on the writing part.

BUT I also have noticed a huge change in the curriculum in our district in the elementary grades from the time that my older two went. They used to do a lot more writing than they do now. For example, Miles has never once done a book report. Matthew and Laura had book reports about once a month from 2nd grade on. There was always "journal time" at school for Matthew and Laura, but Miles stopped journal writing about 2nd grade. I should have supplemented at home when I noticed the slip, but I have a little of that laziness thing going on myself. I will be supplementing now.

I do have a small concern that it may partially be a physical thing, though, and I did share that with the teacher. His handwriting is still so large, and it does seem to take a bit of effort on his part. She said that when they talk about things, his language is descriptive and vocabulary is much better. I asked that he be screened for OT, so we'll see if there is any validity in that. At least we'll know one way or another.

Thanks!

Theresa - please don't share that snow with us east coasters.

The field trip was a lot of fun. I even learned stuff. Considering that I didn't grow up here in VA, there was no reason for me TO ever learn it. However, 4 hours on a bus (charter) is a long time (2 down, 2 back). The kids were very good though. Here is where we went, if you are interested. http://historyisfun.org/Jamestown-Settlement.htm It's America's first English colony. We even saw portraits of how Pocohantas really looked (as they say). Our guide said it's not quite how Disney portrays her, but we don't get our history from Disney. What does she know.

My favorite day of the week.....Friday night High School Football. So far our JV and Varsity teams are both undefeated. Our last regular season game is next Friday and is also Senior Nigh. I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

I remember visiting Jamestown and Williamsburg on a elementary school field trip many many years ago. I really had a good time. Imagine back then trying to figure out what I could spend for twenty five cents!!!!

Not even then, just for Christmas Day and then thats it.

Snow definitely should stay in Dec and Jan (not that it does around here), and I'm glad that we haven't had much yet. I also only like it if I don't have to drive in it...I'm a WIMP.

Does Miles enjoy books? One thing Katie started doing when she was around 8 years old was to start a book journal. After she finished a book, she would write about it in a notebook; basic story lines, characters, and if she liked the book or not. Would she recommend it and why.

This really helped her writing (not to mention her handwriting). It also helped her reading comprehension.

Just a suggestion.

The kids and I made 2 kinds of spider treats for the 8th graders to sell at pumkin in the park tomorrow night. Then we went to my Brother's house for a Turkey Dinner. His birthday is the 7th of next month, but he has to go to Ohio for 3 weeks of training so he won't be around.

Thanks! Miles loves to read. We're trying to think of some creative ways to have him get the writing in so that he doesn't see it as "punishment" or learn to dislike it more than he already does. That sounds like a neat idea. Maybe I'll start one, too, as a good example.

I hearby rescind all previous negative rain comments and says "God Bless you beloved rain!" When I was at the mall with Terra and Kaylin this morning I finished up my comp shop pages while they played. I also cleaned out my purse while at the playarea. At 3:30 this afternoon, while on my way to drop them off with my coworker, I realized the papers were missing. The only place they could have been...the garbage can near the mall playarea. Since the only other option was to hit Walmart again tonight and redo my whole list (at least 5 hours of work), I went back to the mall in hopes that the rain had slowed the crowds, thus the garbage, thus the garbage pick up. Two wonderful housekeeping people helped me look through the can and WE FOUND THEM! And they weren't messy at all! Sooooo saved my night and my sanity. Those two people will get getting thank you cards and Chick Fil A gift cards tomorrow!

I've started to do it, too. It's a great way to put my thoughts about the books I read down. Sometimes I read so fast, and so many books at once that I get myself confused. This really helps me.

Katie's English teacher was really impressed at the number of books Katie has read. When Katie showed her the collection of journals she's kept since she was 8, her jaw dropped! It's fun for Katie to go back and see how her writing has progressed over the years.

If you at all liked Michael Jackson, you will so enjoy this movie. If you loved Michael Jackson, as I did, you will be figuring on how many times you can see it the next two weeks. Wow. Loved it.:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:
