Dancing with the Stars: Season 5 OFFICAL THREAD!!! STARS ANNOUNCED!

Dr. Quinn, Medicne Woman was a CBS show, which aired on Friday nights back in the 90s. I know I had a major crush on the actor who played Sully on that show. :) If DQMW is showing up on ABC Family then it is a syndicated re-run deal. In my book that does not make Jane Seymour part of the ABC/Disney talent pool, and I understood from the start about the placement of ABC/Disney celebrities.
Yes, but the show is on re-runs on ABC Family. That was the connection I saw.

Oh yeah, he was totally hot!

I have to agree. I liked Sabrina...but you could tell right from the 1st week she was a much more experienced dancer. Maybe she isn't a ballroom dancer, but she spends alot of time dancing, learning steps, choregraphing, ect...different from Jane Seymour who did ballet YEARS ago and even Mel B whose dancing isn't nearly as much of the Spice Girls act as it is for the Cheetah Girls.

I like Dancing best when someone like Emmet Smith wins. Totally NOT a dancer, but he learned, worked hard, got way better and won.

I don't know if it's fair to call Sabrina "Cheater" Girl though like I saw on one show tonight...maybe ET? It isn't like she was trying to be sneaky or hide her dance experience. I blame the show. They knew her background when they picked her. I think it might have hurt her though. I felt bad for her, she looked truly upset... and really, based just on the dance, it should have been Jane going home tonight. Her Jive was terrible.

I agree Jane's jive was not at all good.

I thought it would be Jane or Marie. I like Marie and I vote for her, but I will still watch if she gets voted off.

I never really cared for Sabrina, always thought the judges scored her too high. But that is just MHO, I figured she had enough fans to carry her through.

Of course there are lots of times when I disagree with the judges and wonder if they are watching the same show. I wonder how they combine the scores with the viewer voting?

Next week should be interesting since they will each be doing two dances.

Mel has a similar dance background to Sabrina (at least style-wise), and she is able to pull off the slow graceful dances way better than Sabrina. I'm truly surprised at how good she is (don't think she deserved a 30 this week though).

I agree that Mel is improving--I just don't care for her partner. I find his personality/attitude extremely grating. I also agree that judges overscored this particular performance. I think the judges have been overscoring the past two weeks.

It probably should have been Jane or Marie this week as this was a rough week for both and the judges scores reflected that, but I do like them so I'm glad they're still there.

I expected it to be Marie. Jane's and Marie's performances were the weakest this week (but I thought everyone was off this week), but Jane's dance (even though it was not very good--she could have used some of Cheetah Girl's fire and attack for the jive) at least had dance movements. Marie walked around and posed--and although she posed and walked well there wasn't a lot of dancing going on.

Jennie and Cameron have made huge strides.

I agree that Jennie has made a lot of progress. She is one of my favorites.

I was shocked as well, but not too disappointed because IMO Sabrina was a little annoying. Sorry to all those who love her. I would probably be just as upset if Mel and Maks went home. I don't know that it was completely unfair that she went home though, she didn't give a strong performance this week. Granted, she did not have the worst performance of the night, but it wasn't on the same level as her other dances.

I don't care who goes home as long as I get to see Maks shake it every week!! :woohoo:

 What the heck happened????

I cannot believe that Sabrina is the one who got voted out! I expected it to be Jane & Marie in the bottom 2.

TOTALLY surprised me!

:rolleyes1 Interesting turn of events imo......can't wait to see what happens next week.

The gasp heard around the country! I was totally shocked that Sabrina went home. :sad2: Marie and Jane were the weakest of all of them this week and should have been the ones to go.

On one of the ABC boards, many people are talking about how they could not get through to vote for Sabrina, both online and on the phone. If ABC was having technical difficulties, that could explain it. I know I was able to get my online votes in, but when I tried to call on 2 different phones, I either...

1. Got a busy signal
2. Got a message that I had used all my votes (when in reality I was never able to vote by phone)

As far as level playing field...it's not like these celebs call up DWTS and say, "Me! Pick me!"

The producers of the show probably control who it is they approach to be on the show. And really, wouldn't you think it would be a little harder for someone trained in hip-hop to learn ballroom dances? I mean, she probably had to un-learn some of what she does, or think about turning off her hip-hop experience because it's totally different than ballroom.

Someone who has never done dancing before wouldn't have that experience warring with what they are trying to learn. Which is why I respected how well Sabrina was doing.

And if we really want to get picky...Mel B is a Spice Girl. Dancing background right there. Rumor has it that Jane Seymour is a classically trained ballet dancer. So if you want to boot off the pros...there you go.

As to your point about casting...I read an interview that Sabrina did where she said she took her mother to a previous season's taping because she was a fan. After watching the show, she said she called her manager and said I don't care what you have to do, get me on that show. Could be bs, but I have read and seen other reports of stars asking to be on the show, some have gotten on, some haven't.

I agre -- I think stars and their managers are going after this show - I think that is why the star factor is increasing each season. Used to be D actors that were hardly known -- the familiarity factor is much higher this season.

Is this the first really shocking elimination on Dancing? The first early elimination of a front runner?

I only started watching last season and I think every elimination last show was totally predictable. Just wondering if there have been any other huge shockers like Sabrina.

It was a total shocker!! Would have expected Jane or Marie to be in the bottom 2, and when it came down to Cameron or Sabrina, I really thought Cameron was going to be the one to go, even though I really like Cameron.

I haven't been this shocked since Short Bald and Surly got eliminated from American Idol!!!! :scared1:

I was shocked but not disappointed, either. She was not my favorite and went down in my admiration since the first dance. I don't know, something about her sort of grated on me.

Yes, ABC uses this show as a rolling media PR extravaganza. Anything ABC or Disney affiliated (first year Gen Hospital, last year High School Musical and how many times could Eva Longoria and George Lopez show up in the audience? :confused3 ) and this year with the Cheetah Girls and All My Children. They are devised extremely carefully from the marketing aspect, I actually have to admire them for it. It is a highly rated show and this Tivo generation fast forwards through commls now!

I did feel bad for her, though. She looked so hurt. I expected Cameron to go, he and Marie should be OUT OF THERE before Sabrina, so it was a shock. I found myself staring at the TV for awhile like...wth??? :confused3

Oh, and YEAH, who's gonna watch Bruno and Carrie Ann's show? If anything I cannot tolerate about the show it's the JUDGES!!! ugh... and now they get another paycheck.

I just watched the show and I am very surprised!! I've never voted for Sabrina, but I have enjoyed many of her dances. I thought Marie would go, but I am sure she has a huge fan base. I vote for who's dance I like that particular week....not on which star I like the best. This week I voted for Helio....last week Jennie....the week before Jane.....I really enjoy watching the stars who start on the "rusty" side and grow in their dancing abilities over the course of the show. I really like Helio..I mean he is a race car driver!! Who knew he could dance??? Then there is Jennie....I really think she has learned alot over the past several weeks....and Jane....she is so graceful...I didn't care for her Jive, but loved most of her other dances.

Well, we all know...based on previous seasons..... that the majority of this show is a popularity contest. Just have fun watching....vote for the star who's dance you enjoyed......and hope for the best.

Something else that cracked me up is I think it was Edyta who was wearing a cropped top with a poodle skirt. She looked smokin' in it, but I kept thinking to myself -no way did they show skin in the 50's. :rotfl:

:rotfl2: We were both thinking she looked like a cheerleader from a porn flick. ;)

I too was totally SHOCKED last night. Thought Sabrina would be in the finals. WOW!!!

Last night was the first time I watched this season. Who is Sabrina? (what is she famous for?)

The judges are entitled to their opinion and I am most certainly entitled to mine. And clearly, I don't care tuppence about what these judges think of the Cheetah Chick.

But, they're the Professional judges. ;)
While you are certainly entitled to your own opinion, I think they are a little more qualified to determine who can dance ballroom and who can't. :)

They, and many more people, believed that she could do it a lot better than some of the others.

Sabrina is one of the "Cheeta Girls" a very popular song & dance group on Disney Channel. The kids love them.

I thought she was doing a fantastic job on "Dancing" and I was completely shocked that she was sent home last night. But I have always felt the voting system they use is unfair. You only have 30 minutes after the show to vote and voting during the show makes it just a popularity contest. How can you vote for the "best dance" when you haven't seen them all. The other voting shows seem to have much better systems... but they aren't on ABC are they.

This is only one example of how unjust the system is... back in one of the early seasons when Master P was kept on week after week and he wouldn't even move! Then Jerry Springer (who is a very nice man and did the best he could) was obviously hoping to go home was kept on week after week.

But this is the first time someone who should have made it to the finals was sent home... just another reminder that it isn't a "dance" competition... it's who has the biggest fan base. I guess "tweens" don't watch dancing because if they did and voted Sabrina would have taken the trophy home. :sad2:
